BTW: If you're seriously getting an itch to mess around with some gaming code, keep an eye out on Microsofts "XNA" initcitive (sp)...mostly if you have an XBox 360, you'll be able to design games to run on either Windows or the 360...pretty cool stuff! But yeah, I've also become a big "neat freak" with my code....definatly makes me feel cleaner and more efficient I'm jsut glad

Yeah, that's a bit cheap of him....we'll put that in our bug list. Thanks Reaver!
I'm working hard to get a 2 player mode in for you and your son Nothing more enjoyable than teaming up in these kind of games to kick some butt!
Darth: I have a new journal up at http://boogiebac.joeuser.com/index.asp?AID=126493...hopefully it quenches your appetite for...um...stuff. Martimus: I tell you, developing games can be the most enjoyable and entertaining process, or the most frustrating and ulser-inducing. This weekend I totally got sucked into programming mode and got stuck on something really stupid...I think changed the name of a function to make it more readable, but didn't change it's spelling wher
As a natural procrastinator, game development has never been an easy fit with me. There are deadlines to meet, multiple timelines to juggle, revisions to make, and, when it’s done, you have to ship a fun end product. There are hundreds of places to fumble, so a plan must be in place to keep the wheels r
Thanks guys! mew: Good call on that clipping...looks like the i wasn't doing the proper hit-detecting on the sides of the player when falling. As for the gameplay, expect a sidescrolling bteat-em-up, where you do the 'mario' things for some of the level (jumping over dangerous stuff), with the rest of the level enemies chasing you around (Zelda), and you wacking the crapola out of them with your weaponry. Hope it's a fun combo <img sr
With the Epic Generator coming in at #3 on the poll, I figure it's time to give the faithful an update on the progress. When I first tackled this project, I was under the false impression that the difficulties would lay in the writing. Turns out I was wrong... very wrong. In my last dev journal on the subject, I went though and determine
The Art/Code Tightrope Art vs. Code: It's the ultimate match up, but after working on several games in various positions, I've determined that, to make a good game, the share is 50/50. You can't expect a player to invest time in a game that's visually unappealing, but you also can't expect satisfaction on graphics alone. To dust-off my
Perhaps If more people would've seen the first Direct-To-VHS GalCiv movie we'd have more demand for a sequel
Hehe! Good stuff...toots never get old.
Yeah, your feet were pretty gross Imagine if we stayed the whole week like my parents...you'd be more dirt than woman.
Thanks guys (and gal)! Yeah, the script isn't TOO important, but I really want to get back to my cartooning roots and get some cutscenes in to move the story along. While the plot is basic eough to tell in dialog boxes and such, I just think the game will be received with more enthusiasm(sp) if you heard the character's voices and the whole thing felt like an interactive cartoon. Oh, and this is definatly going to be free (chalk it up
This week I tried to diversify myself and get some hefty work done in various areas. Unfortunatly, my list was too long for a week that felt WAY too short. Here's what I shot for.... Elfing
Wow, those didn't last up there for very long Glad you got to see them while they were around!
Looks like fans of the Simpsons were in for a treat at this year's ComicCon - some very rough shots of the upcoming movie were shown to various attendees (and now comes to us by the miracles of YouTube and shoddy bootlegging). They seem to like it (their laughs seem genuine) - I seemed to like it (I chuckled a bit) - but, will YOU like it? If you
Alas, the first week of my 18 week Christmas project has come and gone, leaving me with 119 days remaining to complete the task. This week I started by taking baby steps and focusing on the "Walking" animation of our hero (edit: unintentional pun, I assure you). The other animations shouldn't take a week apiece, but will still need my attention in the
JB: You only want me to keep cheesums 'cause you came up with his name
Proposed new and improved Elfington Design (With Duel Peppermint Blades) Every year I have the intention of making a Christmas themed game...seriously, I try! But looking back, I see that my plans have been unfulfilled for the last THREE years.
Hey Joey, If you've unsure of the purchase, you could always try the demo first...it should give you a good idea of how the game plays out...plus it's free Of course, we HOPE you like it enough to buy the full version but I know that TBS games are an acquired taste to gamers used to
Do you have the most recient version of the game (1.2)? I remember a problem like this during the testing phase, but I thought it was fixed.
We've made alot of little tweaks in 1.2 to make gigantic games more bearable, but I think everyone gets some slow-down in late games with 1000+ ships flying around the galaxy at once. I don't see your system having many problems though.
Hey Clemo! To use custom images as portraits or logos, just drop your PNG files (256x256 preferably) into your 'my documents/games/galciv2/mods/logos and portraits" folder, the game should be able to find them from there! Have fun!
Hi Kyrnathon, Yeah, I've heard of this happening before. Try restarting your system before playing the game after updating. This happens on random computers and has to do with the font getting downloaded and not properly recognised by Windows. Let me know if the problem persists after the reboot! edit: Guess I'm too slow
Hey Gangsta, When you say you went onto the metaverse, are you talking about the web-site or in the game? I made my character right in the game, so I suggest setting things up there before going onto the website. Let me know if this helps!
I dont see anything completely out of the ordinary. Could you install SmartException (stardock central>free stuff) and, when the game crashes, send that log file to [email protected]? Thanks!
