-The space battles are fully 3d, but the main playing map takes place on a 2d plane. -The galaxy size can range from 3x3 sectors (a few hours to play through) to 18x18 sectors (weeks to a month to play through). -A PDF version of the manual comes the the download, for for a small price you can get the Boxed version sent to you with the printed manual. Hope this helped

Yeah, that's Paul "Mormigeil" Boyers little "Hats-Off" to our fav online cartoon....i guess we should have tweaked it more besides removing some colors and flipping it upside-down
I remember hearing that Atari was having some poor upper management issues...where the guys calling the shots only wanted to do big budget, liscensed titles after "Enter the Matrix" did so well (despite so-so reviews). Anyways, no matter whos to blame, It's always sad to see that many employees layed off.
I know there is a debugging cheat key that does it...not sure if that's going to be supported in the gold or bonus pack builds, but the functionality is definatly there (Brad used that quite often to balance the different AI personalities).
We had discussed the idea in December when we say how cool the tutorials were looking, but having players ask for it definatly brought the idea off the backburner
hehe Gotta love looking back on old mockups. I especially like the little picture of a husband and wife as the icon for "Populaion". Look's like they just got out of the Sears Photo studio. They're also human, so I guess that was before we had officiall decided to let players be the other races. Ah, the memories!
Yeah, the beta closed around December IIRC with Beta 5 as the last build that most people could play. You'll all get a MUCH better version of the game come Tuesday
Looks like an old EXE with the new data. I'd wait 'till tuesday to play the game, honestly. You'll get the newest code and wont get weirdo errors like the one above
Ben: Next time the ice festival comes into Plymouth you'll have to come by...I've done ice carving the last 2 years, and I'm hoping to do a "Stardock" sponsored one next year (with a towering icy Yor or something). Martok: That "spoof-ad" was actually made by a GalCiv forum-goer a few years back. IIRC, he also did a series of GalCiv inspired comics (can't remember the users name unfortunatly). I'll try to dig it up!
What 3d program do you plan to be working in, satasha? The exporter we used is available for 3dMax and Maya...will it be one of those 2 programs? Or something else?
Hey satasha, glad to hear some users are interested in making additional jewelry for the game. I'll try and answer these the best I can... 1.) We're currently working to get a directory that players will be able to plop new X files into and the game will read them as valid peices of jewelry. This will hopefully make it in for the bonus pack. There are other ways to get your models into the game, but i suggest waiting until this is working before doing so (otehrwise the files may get o
Not at the moment...but now you have me windering how it could be done. I meen, all the screens are there...hmmmm Perhaps for the bonus pack, or a future expansion it'd be possible.
Originally we had it wored out where you needed to put some money into espionage before that data became available, but in the end it just made the game less fun, so now, if you can see a ship, you can see what its stats are.
Don't worry, we have our list of features for gc3 But yeah, there's still the Bonus Pack, minor updates and Expansion Packs to worry about, so you won't be seeing news on GC3 for a LONG time. Plus, that's part of the reason we worked so hard on the multiple resolutions, we want the game to last as long as possible on its own, work on some new franchises ( Society , for instance), then really
In order to play through the metaverse, you have to start a game through the "Metaverse" button. This will use a copy of the games data that is free from mods, ect, so everyone plays on even footing.
When the game hits retail we'll be opening the library section where players can upload their designs for everyone to use...In the meantime I'll try and round up some of the designs made while we were play-testing in the office.
No subtitles for the intro, unfortunatly, but underneith the tutorials there will be a transcript of what is being said. It's not quite as nice as sub-captions, but it should help
I beleive that you'll be able to toggle a "cheat mode" in the Bonus Pack, that will give you access to all the cheat-keys that we've had during development (including the Auto-Play cheat). So out of the box, "No", with a quick upgrade to the bonus pack, "Yes" The only drawback to cheat-mode is that you can't upload to the metaverse. Other than that, you're free to shape the galaxy as you see fit <img src="smiles/Wink.gif" border=
https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=98513 This is one done by brad when he was tweaking the AI. Not your traditional after action report, but it'll give you an idea how a GC2 1on1 match would go. There'll be more once we send out the gold copy and catch up on sleep
I actually just saw a co-worker testing the game in portrait mode (1024X1600), and it was actually REALLY nice. I meen, the cutscenes play a bit funky (imtgine letterbox where the black bars are about the size of the movie) and the intro planet stretches funny, but it's pretty useful (listboxes are nice and long, you get to see alot of the map). Give it a try when you can
hehe The issue will come up more and more as new gamers come to the forum, so at least we have a thread to point them to that reasonably spells out the reason for not including such a "necessary" feature. I can understand...there are times where I'll be having a really fun game where I go "I wish i could be playing against someone, to test my strategies on." But then I think about diplomacy, and the simutanious turns issue, and random events, and the time most games take to play
https://www.galciv2.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=162&AID=98074#766903 This is a thread where multiplayer is being talked about. Hopefully both sides of the argument make sense, but I tend to side with the "No-Multiplayer" side, since I know what a pain developing a proper MP client can be. I would prefer to make a GC2 type game that's sreamlined for the MP experience...there's just too much time between
Looks like something got uploaded to SDCentral that shouldn't have. We'll look into it.
Oh wait, somebody will have to play for me then! I've actually had alot of fun just watching people play, mostly once the big fleets start rolling out. I watched a game yesterday where Paul Boyer (mormegil) was testing a logistics strategy where you'd make TONS of small ships and put them into a massive fleet, so basically he had about 3 swar
Word around the office is in the first half of March (1st to 15ish), since we physically have to change the code for that version, then test. Sorry it's not sooner.
