hehe - I had typed in a long winded response and accidently deleted it... funny you showed up Mobius, I was responding to expunge earlier with a comment about how he should look at your work for a great example of how original and creative Bryce can be - and then I got sidetracked... I think our biggest fault in moderating is sometimes we're too lenient. We try to be consistent but I know sometimes I post something that probably should've been moderated.

hmmm... the docs look nice, good job of explaining all the features, but one of the skin images on the front page is credited to the wrong author. Where it says "In this example, skin author Phil Powell has created an alternative Windows GUI..." the example shown is my Seti glass skin.

Task Manager just shows you what is running on your system. If wbload is not listed in the processes then Windowblinds is not running. Maybe you should try emailing their tech support or posting your problem in the Windowblinds newsgroup. news://news.stardock.com/stardock.windowblinds

I don't know of any patches, or issues with XP. In the appearances tab of XP I think the drop down list (Windows and Buttons) is there even without Windowblinds. Do you have a button on the right that says 'Wiindowblinds' on it? In Task Manager, under processes, is wbload running?

cool interview... context sensitive smart buttons? That's a great idea! I've been hoping to see a lot more plugins that could be used with smnart buttons but making them context sensitive so the function changes based on what app is active would be awesome. I'm looking forward to that one.

If it installed okay then under the 'appearance' tab in the display properties dialog you should have a drop down list of skins to choose from. Just choose one and click 'apply'. When you download skins and double click the wba file, they'll be added to that list.

Merc, you can still use notepad to make the UIS files. I did on the new ones I enetered on the Olympics. After the skin was done I went into skin studio to see what features were out of date and what new ones could be added. You're right though, there are a ton of new things to skin and settings to set in the latest version.

The wba file is a zip file. You could rename the file extension to .zip and it works just like a normal zip file. The easier way though, is to just double click the .wba file which installs it into Windowblinds. This creates a subdirectory in the Windowblinds directory for the skin. That is where you'll find the fonts and any other extras included with the skin. Often there's a readme file that has instructions on how to best apply the skin, or how some of the controls work. I made a skin with the title bar and the buttons on the bottom, it's called Doreen's TV. It's pretty old now and doesn't have all the new stuff skinned, and it's a real dark skin. I've often felt that it would be nice to put an extra close button on the bottom right but that's where I like to have the lock on top button, and I have this fear that I would be constantly accidently closing the program I'm working in. Don't change your screen size... change the logon background to fit what you have. Resize it in a graphics editor like paint shop pro, then in logon studio rebuild the screen by selecting each piece and setting it's properties, and then save and apply it.

Great concept! The participation shows how much an idea like this can be accepted, and enjoyed, by the whole skinning world. This was great fun, there should be many more. I was gonna say something with a firehose or buckets of water as it's theme but... it occurs to me the Darkmarble skins have a sort of fantasy, ancient kind of look that might go well with those images. TopazAmp, Major Tom, Nemish, Petrol Flange, Leather Box, and many others rank at the top of the list for me, (TopazAmp being the very top of the list).
