Welcome to the Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread - The Sequel. :)

The old FotR thread was getting too big and it was taking too long to load the thread, thus this new one.

Hello everyone.
I'm looking forward to get home tonight, and hopefully find the new update for AP, so I can start that gig game I've been talking about.
And when I saw Greldon's last post, I thought that well, I'll even contribute, a little considering my scores, to the objective he pointed. And then, just to check what was my last score, I had a look at my profile, and there is something strange in there: I'm pretty certain that last week I was something like 427th in metaverse. How come now I'm 394? I mean, that's good, but I haven't played in the last 10 days! If it continues like that, in some weeks I'll end up in the top 25, and my fake medal will become a real one at last! ;p
Is it possible that 30 persons posted losses and got their score lowered?

Anyway, I hope 1.2 comes out along with the AP update. And I hope the latter did not get postponed (even though I'd rather have something good later than something "incomplete", in terms of gameplay, right now). On the other hand, considering the time zones, even if it is ready today, there are chances I won't get it, depending on the hour it is uploaded.

Have you looked at the page you are on in the metaverse? You and I are fairly close in the standings. I noticed the scores are quite close, so it is possible to make decent jumps like that.

We are both on page 16 right now. If you flip back to page 15 the top score is just over 40k. I wondered like you did and checked a couple days ago. The scores are so close where we are now that we can move up, but, once we get to a certain point we will run into more active players too.....

There's most certainly a Metaverse-wide recalc going on. Recalcs always cause retired players to fall in the standings, since they are no longer contributing scores. It could also be the reason we mysteriously lost a whole game's score.

I though of that too, but I am still new to the ins and outs of Metaverse Math. ;) I also have noticed going up a bit without posting a game as I missed a couple days....

After the week I've had, I think it may be time to head over to the Pony for a very large drink. Or maybe several smaller ones... ;)

You with me, Terl?
I guess you're both right.
I just checked the players metaverse page, and indeed we are all within a 1000 points in page 16. By the way terl, you're number one in page 16. Congrats ;) . I guess it's always nice to be on the top, even if it is page 16...
By the way, since I'm exactly 20 (or so) places behind you, I guess I'm in the top 25 for page 16! Maybe I deserve that chocolate-like medal of former top 25 ;p

i just read Cari's post from 2 days ago more carefully, so I think I'll start my new game under 1.13, and then if there is an update to altarian prophecy sometime later today, I'll start another one there.

Considering I was way, way back at one point, I am happy. I know I will reach my "limit" after a while, as I do not play very often much above normal. I still make silly mistakes that seem to be hard to recover from at higher levels, which I would expect, no complaint, merely observations.

I would say I heartily agree. And with my day so far, after we have a few could we go knock around a few orcs and goblins? Stress relief... :)

The game I have going now, I have battleships and no one else does and I am currently researching dreads...and, best of all, the stinking Altarians are directly south of me. Knock, knock... who's there?...pizza man... :)

That's a situation I haven't known in quite a while! I noticed a big differance between tough and painful. In tough I could stay ahead. In painful, it was more like shoulder to shoulder (well not really, since I won :) ). But when I tried crippling, I was still researching basic techs when I saw 2 different invasion fleets coming my way. I hoped (but only for a brief moment) that they were attacking each other, but nope. It was me alright. I guess I'm not ready for crippling yet...
I think my game will be a tough or painful rare gig. :)

This time of the day is quite terrible, when I'm closer to the end of my working day than I am to its beggining. A blessed moment of course, but still, it feels like it takes longer...

Yes, lets knock down a few drinks, then knock down a few Altarians!

I am a little nervous about starting a new game since my last on still hasn't gotten submitted yet. I would like to see if Cari could work on it before I start a new one.

Yes, I saw you had problems. i think I saw other persons complaining as well. Anyway, for me it's not really an issue, since I'd be very surptised if I finished it anytime before next week: I play only a couple of hours a day, when I get to play (:(

I got lucky and grabbed 2 tech resources which are now being mined quite heavily. That has helped quite a bit. I also sold corvettes and turbo phasers to the AI after I had battleships (some had corvettes but not all) for a good bit of cash over time which I think has helped keep them behind a bit. The Altarians owe me money for about six more months. And that will give me time to get my fleet staged :)

Time does gow much slower at the end of the workday, does it not? :)

Quite true. Work seems like eons but when I sit down to play GalCiv I can be playing for two hours or more and not realize it at all...well, until I get the "Are you going to play that stupid game all night?" Oh, BTW, "yes" is not the right answer. ;)

Yes, it's amazing how fast time goes by when playing GalCiv!

Personally, I don't answer the question. :D

No, I sent the game to Cari to see if she could figure it out. Everything went exactly the way it always does, except it doesn't show up in the Metaverse. Weird.

Problem is, I usually don't even hear it until the third or fourth time it is asked ;) :D Too engrossed in the game....

It does sound like an echo. I do hear something like that. I guess in some forum over the net wives keep exchanging their complains about us, thus the similarity of their observations on this subject, no matter where they are!

And indeed, Terl, Yes is not the right answer... Though once I tried, *without saying yes*, to explain why it was not a stupid game, and even quite challenging. It took about 5 to 15 minutes (I felt like it was 5 -- I was the only one talking -- she said half an hour) before she slammed the door while "saying" that I could do whatever I wanted, but "you better not wake me up when you come to bed". She had that Drengin look on her face, like when they say "puny human, we come to crush you". Needless to say, I saved and went to bed right away: he who knows when to fold lives to play another day ;)

I usually play until around 11:00pm, give or take a few turns. LOL

When I play, I usually stretch it till midnight, or 1 am. Which probably explains my wife's attitude I guess.
On the otherhand, when we used to play Medieval or Shogun Totalwar, she used to stay up that late too. So she should understand...

Do you know those games by the way?

I’m not familiar with them. Before GalCiv, I played Morrowind on my Xbox and Starcraft on my PC. :)

Unfortunately, logic does not apply in these cases because our game is stupid while their's is not :)

I saw them in the store. Are they good? What are they, TBS or RTS?

As for me, it was Civ 3, Rise of Nations, and sadly Master of Orion 3 (oh so depressing :( )
