They're giant monkeys who refuse to act sick. They're going to daycare/summer school/camp (I can't decide what to call it) tomorrow unless they actually vomit on me. I wanted to be your date......does that count? It certainly counts for something. I'd have had the hottest SFC there on my arm.

many military fathers don't get to live anywhere near their kids. One PCS overseas or one ex-spouse move across the country and the situation quickly can become untenable. I'm not looking forward to it, certainly. There's a decent chance that she'll move them to the DC metro area before I PCS from here
Dang it. They're sick. The big one is positively dragging tail now, he didn't finish even 1/2 his dinner, and they both have headaches.
Late start today. I need to go to bed right after the boys... and I need to get them down earlier. They're already mad at me for putting them in bed while the sun still shines (just before 9) and getting them up "at night" (before sunrise). We'll see how they deal with an even earlier, brighter bedtime. ------------------------- I was 216 this morning, and
I'm sure all active duty military members have heard horror stories of the health care system. First, there's the troop clinic. The constant joke concerning it is the "Motrin and RTD (return to duty)" prescription, regardless what's wrong with you. There's also the fact that, if you're too sick to go to work, you have to go to work, sign in, and then go to the troop clinic. Wait there until they see you (NCOs go before junior enlisted, and
It is nice to see a dad taking an interest in his kids. My kids dad never wanted a thing to do with her and refused to acknowledge her existence a real sob. She is 20 now and has met him for all of 5 minutes, with no further contact. I feel sad when I read this, not only for your daughter but for her fa
JoeUser is a bit schizophrenic in its layout. The default posting of articles is both on a personal blog and in the JU public forums (and sometimes other possibly reltated forums, to the consternation of those forums' regulars). While this gets the information a wider audience (I have, what, 4 regular readers?), it seems to have some drawbacks as well. I be
It is about time you learnt some manners and tolerance of people around you. I pointed out that your initial reaction was judgemental; you responded that you weren't about to change for me, even though you had told me to change my behavior. I told you off and attempted to blacklist you (which seems n
The 4th Brigade of the 101st Airborne is actually referred to as the 506th Regimental Combat Team... the unit has kept its Regimental affiliation for traditional purposes.
It aint gonna change for you. Then I have no qualms in telling you to FOAD.
You are just being self conscious for no good reason, stop being so and enjoy the moments. While your advice is sound, you come off as bluntly judgemental (not only here, but on dharma's most recent article as well). I just spent some time with my sons at the pool and met a woman who
I get the impression... From the way the daycare workers go out of their way and give me and my boys special treatment... Because my unit doesn't have a unified policy to handle my situation... Is a military father being involved in the lives of his children after divorce this rare? I can't imagine not having the relationship with my sons t
I'm not being very good about what I eat this week, although Wednesday I basically hit my previous goals for calories. I was 213 Thursday morning but missed PT and ate a lot of bad carbs. I was 215 this morning... and missed PT again! We may go swimming this evening to make up for it, but will probably be crunched for time due to a Color Guard practice. Swimming o
You must be so proud! One of my goals for this summer is to get my boys more used to the water. I finally got my older boy to get on my back while I swam around in the deep end. We also bought a kickboard that I'll be showing them how to use properly this weekend. Go Connor!
I'm sorry to hear of D's misfortune. But you're right... he's a tough bugger, mentally too, and he (and you) can pull through this, get past it. Let me know if there's some small way I can help.
I'm losing steam on the accountability logs. I had started off not doing calorie counts on Saturday and Sunday and then that extended to Fridays. Then, if it were a long weekend, it would likely extend to Thursday. Now, this past weekend, I not only had a 3-day weekend but I picked up my sons for the summer. Eating healthy with them around is tricky. I
Thanks for taking the boys out to the memorial. I'm more than a little jealous that you have them involved with the Scouts; I'm not sure that I'll be able to do that for my sons.
Military cadences are almost entirely an "oral lore" sort of learning... I bought a book on cadences at the PX/Clothing Sales, and it's fricking terrible. The running cadence cassettes/CDs tend to be a little better, but not always. Most people learn these by hearing them in formation, so there are going to be minor (or even very major) variances.
Which, in turn, reminds me of one that a pair of NCOs in my current unit use: Fat Is Where It's At . I don't know if they get through the whole thing...
Thanks for the addition, Geezer! I'm sure there are about a dozen more verses (and variations on the ones I have down already), so addendums to what I already have are very welcome.
Full disclaimer: If you will be offended by something that makes light of people with terminal illnesses, who are on life support, or are otherwise suffering due to severe illness DO NOT READ FURTHER. Also, don't preach to me about it, 'kay? I understand this is a sensitive area for some; it's why some units don't allow this cadence to be sung. (Still very
I'm drooling now, thanks I often have that affect on women.
It's pretty badass. There's enough curry sauce that it kind of soaks into the squash and makes it mushy enough to eat. That and I probably put a little too much olive oil on it before roasting... the smell is like pumpkin, but it's right tasty.
From Men's Health, JAN/FEB 07. Not sure if I had posted this, but the Lady Cleve asked about it when it showed up in one of my accountability logs a few days back. Ingredients: 1 small acorn squash, about 2lb 12 oz boneless, skinless chicken breasts, chopped 1 red bell pepper, chopped 1 Tbsp mild yellow curry powder 1 Tbsp olive oil S
Solo and Chewbacca (although it was to C3PO): Let the wookie win. Boba Fett didn't have any lines in the movies (well, not the real Boba Fett, anyway. I guess that kid they had who pretended to be Boba Fett might've said something). But you could pair Fett with Solo and have the quote be: Boba Fett? Boba Fett?!? Where?!
