I have been a MaximumPC subscriber since their first issue. It was "Boot" then. They know about Stardock. They had an article about SkinStudio about a year ago, but it was pretty basic. Seemed like they spent about thirty minutes with it and then wrote the article. Those guys are into wringing every ounce of performance from a PC, not customization. Also, there has been some changeover in their editorial staff recently. Maybe the guys that were familiar with Stardock have

Try deleting everything in the Stardock/Temp/Base directory and see if that fixes it. The current version of SDC is not deleting the temp files after an installation and will mess up future installation attempts.

Thanks yrag. I have checked #2 & #3 numerous times and I don't think the problem is there. #1 I don't remember if I uninstalled the Dell drivers first, but probably didn't. I will try that when I get the time (it's tax season). It's not a big deal, the sound works perfectly playing music, videos, etc. I just can't get the startup and shutdown sounds. I would like to see an answer to the system sound problem. I have a Dell 8300, Xp and an Audigy soundcard and have lost the startup and shutdown sounds. In 2001 Koasati made a CursorXP theme called k.01 that matches Zippo very well. I couldn't find it now but if he sees this, maybe he will re-upload it.

I also have the problems resolved with ver 4.20.017 dated 12/09/03. I am on WindowsXP Home, Dell 8300 computer, 3.06 gh processor, hyperthreading enabled, 512mb memory, and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card with the latest drivers available from Dell. Thanks, Stardock.

Another bug in 4.20 is if you use a skin with a wide left frame, such as Colony or Siderado, the sub menus come up about a 1/2 inch from the main menu panel in explorer. I was updating Siderado with all the latest bits and nearly went crazy trying to find what I had done to mess up the skin. A roll back to 4.19[h] fixed the problem.

I remember punch cards, too. I was a keypunch operator a long time ago. I remember having to wire the Tabulator to print reports from these cards. (that pre-dates computers)
