Ok, I just installed it. I'll let you guys know if it crashes again... The game crashed upon hitting the domestic screen. I skipped that step for a turn and everything seemed fine down the line. Oddest error, though...

When I play on 2b, the Korath and Drengin both seem to have the "split" event. It's almost amusing the way that the Drengin will have a civil war around the mid-point of a war-- which causes the civilization they're at war with to easily conquer them. This probably owes to the previously-mentioned "happiness bug"...

This piggybacks on something I was thinking about earlier: If the AI were to suddenly start playing for me, it _would_ have certain feelings about the other empires. It would be fairly trivial for the computer to, um, computer this. Let's call that my citizen's feelings on other players. What I'd like to see is that when I decide to attack another player (and thus a War Vote is taken), my citizen's opinions about that civilization will be factored in. Currently, the War Vote is pretty mu

So... Here's what I want to do: I would like to mod Venus so that it is a toxic world with few usable tiles unless heavily modified. This would allow for a mid game extra sol planet-- if the player wants to invest heavily into it's teraforming. The question is: what do I add to the CustomPlanets.xml file to make this happen?

2.5gigs of RAM? sounds like a bug, not a feature... And thanks for the tip on the sound cards; I'll make a trip to comp USA today. There's one right by my work... Ought I expect better sound quality? Or is that going to remain unchanged?

The sound card is so old that I don't even remember any more. I am almost positive that it's from creative, though... I have only had one gaming session since that the crash. It went alright; though I did notice that the game was using over 600megs of RAM! Is there any way of throttling this back?

my video drivers are from 8/22/2006. They can't be _that_ old?! (can they?) As far as my sound drivers go-- this soundcard and I have had a long history. Too long, I think. the important part (for this conversation, anyway) is that only the drivers it shipped with actually work not the ones I download from the manufacturer's site. Just the ones on the disk. Tres annoying...

Not actually. It _was_ a blue screen. But it said that I had a hardware issue. I recently Downloaded Dark Avatar and had no problems with GalCiv2. I have noticed that on mining heavy areas, my screen starts chunking. I've turned anti-aliasing to no avail. This may not be connected with my actual issue, but is a problem... I've also done a bit of modding. this may or may not contribute to the problem. And finally: the bellow may or may not be the full debug.err; I don't know if it

I agree with the commenters: I don't always want to cause harm to the other players, I don't usually want to risk the incident (I assume getting caught spying is a negative). But I do always want to know what my opponents (and friends!) are up to...

I doubt the Devs. will even read this, but: What I'd love to see is a module that would let fleets use the life support of whatever unit had the module. call it a "fleet train". It would allow carriers _in effect_, but not in a way that I think would be complex to create AI for. Granted, I know nothing about AI...

The problem with this idea is that in order to take over a world, you have to kill off the previous population. So there's no one of the other "race" to revolt against your rule. The planets are now run by your own former soldiers...

So, if a mini-freighter only gives a bonus when it passes through a SB's area of effect, does that mean that I get more money from faster freighters? Because that way they'll be passing through the area of effect more often?

6 Replies 5,976 Views

Let's go one step further: how does _trade_ work? Should I chose to trade with closer planets if there's more people? Or does distance matter more? How many min-freighters can be blown up before a rout gets canceled?

Yep it works just fine. I have been modding the game my copying some ships from other styles. Such as giving the Arceans style "6" made from a copied selection of the other models. Just done this by copying all of one ship design cargo hull, and renaming the S1 to S6 for example. It should work in theory for new models too, just keep the naming convention the s

Is it possible to add a new ship style or extra style? Currently, the game supports styles 0-5; I’d love to add a style 6-10 or something. If it isn’t possible, perhaps stardock would be willing to open things up a bit?

7 Replies 7,052 Views

One really obvious thing that I’d love to see, perhaps in a mod, though preferably by Stardock: In the descriptions of buildings, I want to know if they affect all planets or just the one I’m building on. Even things like trade goods; I don’t know if nanorepair bots work for all ships, or just ships build on the planet were my trade good is built. This is information which really _ought_ to be obvious, but I don’t know how to find out...
