I'd say it's a fairly diplomatic answer. Probably not exactly what you wanted to hear, but diplomatic. First...it's the beginning of the year. I'd be giving the responsibility speeches a little bit later in the year to these kids. Keep them on schedule and you won't have to release them late. It's hard to be a parent...to walk the line between being "meddling" and "supportive." Kids' parents need to support them in middle school,

Dude...I think Grissom is hot, too, but I have a thing for emotionally inferior nerds. lol They're ALL cute!

all of which are notorious centers of depravity (although a verbal invite to an orgy sounds a lot more wholesome when delivered by a native of minneapolis or milwaukee). lol...right on!

Meh...the same thing happens in Las Vegas, LA, NY, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, St. Louis. It doesn't matter where you live, the "loose" lifestyle is in demand, you know? I don't know if God's into "wrath" anymore. I think it's more like your personal lifestyle and behavior have consequences, and they can be positive or negative. I feel bad for New Orleans-ites, because they definitely don't need another set back. I think the city is a

Welcome, and I already did. Dave called her this morning, and these comments are what she said to the kids after she got done talking to him. Sorry, must have missed that somewhere. I'd still try one more time with her face to face...and then let the principal know what's going on...He or she might no

Thank you! Coming from you and InBloom who are both certified teachers, that means a lot. Thank YOU! I'd first talk to the teacher and try to sort things out, and then if that didn't work I'd go see administration. Teachers appreciate that kind of a thing, and administrators do, too. Keep

I think you need to meet with the teacher in person. Ask if she feels good about herself when she pushes around children. Man, there are so many teachers looking for jobs right now. I can't believe that people like that still have a job. And then they have the nerve to criticize parents....... <B

You're right about "procedure." Im sure "certain" teachers who blog on JU would insist that little kids need to learn how to shut up and chow down, and that if they weren't goofing off, 15 minutes is more than enough time to eat lunch. Can you just lay off and leave the crap on the intended blog? I don

Oh fun! You and your lovely wife seem to have so much fun with baby Kenny...and there's definitely no better place in Minnesota than Duluth. I can't wait to get back up there myself (I've got friends in med school and pharmacy school at UMD, and it's real nice to see them!). Enjoy the lovely fall weather!

---- Texas Wahine Although NEW systems (not quiet bleeding edge, but close to it) are coming down in price, they're still fairly pricey ($550+). If you're lucky, you might find a used system for sale through the local "trading post" type newsletters or some such. Several other places to try would be ... FreeCycl

I'm just some dumbass teacher who doesn't know much...but I'd say it would depend on the kid. Some kids are just built meatier than others, and some are more string-beanish. I think I'd worry more about his behavior. Is he active? Happy? Or does he seem lethargic? I think being healthy and happy is more important than whether you can see ribs or not... Does that make sense?

See, but there's the difference, Marcie...you don't set homework that involves your students logging onto the school website to take a quiz. Your students have the option of using the internet, it's not a mandatory thing. I just don't think it's appropriate for where your son is at in school. High sch

My kids have homework almost every night. If parents ask me for some extra stuff for their kids to do, I might point them to the internet, if that's available to them. But as for homework I assign, it's all pencil-paper-crayon type of stuff. I assume that if they're able to purchase a box of 24 crayons for school, they probably have something colorful at home. If not, we have very nice people in our community and even parents that voluntee

You know what? You pretty much summed up what I felt like for the first 22 years of my life. As I got older, everyone was pairing off and it often felt like I was the only single person on earth. I wanted for someone to just "get" me, you know? And now I'm part of a pair. I think that as single people we really delude ourselves when we come up with that "fairy tale" mentality--I'm not saying you do it...I know I did though. The things I d

Oy. I agree with Zoomba. For the most part. My issue with this whole situation is that I fear that it's not far off where people that have any association with any sort of God will not be allowed to work for any type of publicly-funded agency. Meaning *I* will lose my job as a public school teacher because I subscribe to the Christian belief system. I know there are those of you who scoff, but when we have crazies out there like da

There seems to be an awful lot of confusion about what is allowed and what isn't allowed. Children, of their own accord, are still within their rights to pray in school--they just can't be directed to pray by teachers. Yeah...and be harrassed? Right.

There are over 4000 nerve endings in a male penis. Giving brith is no small matter and from what I'm told is quite painful. But think of "ripping" through that many nerve ending and you might get a better insight to what we talk about when it comes to that. That's a whole lot of dead ends! Ummm...okay...well...I've never given birth

Oh...but the Preamble contains the word "blessing"...ten bucks says that heads will roll over that one! But anyway...isn't our Constitution amazing? I think its incredible that people over 200 years ago had the foresight to create a document that would outline our way of life with so little change. What wisdom.

One of the first graders in the class next door to mine came to school wearing a very risque tank top yesterday that pretty much just covered what it needed to. We were "treated" to seeing the whole rest of her upper body. On top of all that, this was an OUTFIT..so the matching bottoms weren't much better. Yay for sexy Tweety Bird! It bothers me when kids come to my class wearing halter tank tops, etc. Don't parents realize they're just se

A Bush resignation would hit the spot! Pfffft. My ass. I think it takes a very big man....a good leader....to say what he said. For him to say that was to take the blame for things that happened that were not his fault. The whole system is screwed up when it comes to emergency response and manageme

I don't get your question. Accomplice? Are you committing a crime of some sort? To me...associate is someone you work with...and as for the rightness and wrongness of it all...who's to say? It depends on you and who YOU are. I think that some people are just wired to have lots of "acquaintances" (I think that's the word you're wanting to use) and very few close friends, and other people are wired to have lots of close friends and f
