This is the programming guide for Xerces. http://xml.apache.org/xerces-c/program.html Microsoft have a similar guide for there XML parser. Search msdn.microsoft.com Basically you can create a Document Object Model (DOM) that represents the XML file. Then use variuos methods to access the DOM to read particular data.
Also XML would only be used for configuration, load/save games. This is not really critical code performance wise. By that I do not mean that performance does not matter but that you do not need to get into hand optimization that you can need in the main processing loop when the game is running.
Yeah I spotted that when I was at work. I have not had time to fix it. I probably just need to update the style sheet. At least I hope so. Let me know if you spot any other problems. Thanks
Thats more like XML :D
Ugh it messed up my xml :D Lets see if this does better Universal Translator CommunicationTheory 25 Dr. Edmund Phrinck, a professor of linguistics has a theory that the commonalities in all known languages can be synthesized into a complex set of equations tha
XML is just a way of representing data. The current GCTech.tech could be XML. This is how one entry looks //------------------------------------------------------------------------ TECH 1 UniversalTranslator //------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name "Universal Translator" Model "" Tech_Requirement "CommunicationTheory" Research_Cost
If you really want to be bleeding edge you can always look at using XML for save games, game options etc. XML can be used to Marshall and UnMarshall objects (class instances). This is now part of the java spec not sure about C++ as I mainly work with Java.
From all previous messages from Brad Galciv 1.0 will be a single player game with the addition of the Metaverse. Support of real-time multiplayer was talked about very early and was suggested as a possible future release of Galciv or even a different game under the GalCiv title. Many suggestions where put forward about how multiplayer would be implemented but the amount of additional work to support this added a lot to the project.
Flag ships are an excelent idea. They fix the immediate problem and add the possibility of some very interesting extra's for future releases.
Just updated the site from the 3D files. No new features. (been a heavy work week) enjoy http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/
Lol takes me back. I just found my original 5 disc set of GalacticCivilizations. Now all I have to find is my OS/2 cd and I should be all set to install it :)
This is because you became an evil race. Its part of the UI. :)
The thing I would really like to see is the ability to group ships. Involves a lot of micro management to provide an escort for transports.
My Tech Tree Web site has been updated from the latest build. Also updated the Quick reference pdf to include starbase modules on the research list. Also spit it into individual pages for each type. Check it out here http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/
I think you will find lots of caffeine and leg irons work better then a whip :)
When you get to the middle of a game and start getting constructors being build 5, 10 at a time on some turns it gets annoying clicking on them to get them out of orbit. Would it be possible to have an option that automatically de-orbitted (sic) the constructors ?
Over the weekend I have tried a few of the win conditions by far the easiest is the combat win. Once you have a battleship covering each planet there is not much they can do to recover then its just a matter of time before you can get a transport to take over the planet. I think an upgrade to the BattleAxe that provides good defense against battleships is need. How about BattleAnvil :) cost 150 defense 9 attack 1 hitpoints 25 range 0
I started out planning for a research win so I choose technologists and put all points into research. Then I got a lucky break and ended up with 50% of the planets on colonization. After that 50% of budget in research after the coloization had finished. The only techs that ended up with a hugh number of months was Galatic Creation and Beyond Human which I cut down by finding as many 25% research anomolies as I could.
Just won with a beyond human win. If you are an evil civ you would go galatic domination, if you are good you would go galatic peace. Beyond Human is the one for neutral races.
Looks like I won by influence but the Metaverse report very low points and was described as a mitlitary defeat :(
