..and perhaps information on the content of the square? The amount could depend on your relation with the planet or ship in that square? Say: Friendly Torian Republic Transport - if you were on good terms with them? Otherwise, a good idea..

OK, maybe I'm impatient - or maybe I've missed out on you mentioning this earlier. What level of functionality do you wish to achieve in the Alpha Test? IMHO it would give all of us a better grasp of our goals in this initial test, if you could give us an idea of what milestones the Alpha have to pass to be promoted to the first Beta. I agree with the statement made in the galciv news group, that from a retail prespective the game is not very impressive at the moment.

It looks like all ships take the destination of a misaligned ship, when you have the misaligned ship selected with the "Find" function- and tries to select it with your mouse. I've found that selecting every other ship, giving them a destination (like right next to the selected ship) and then selecting the ship again, clear that behaviour. That may also be the reason I see nothing in the debug.err file - and makes me once again advocate for lines connecting a ship with it's des

IMHO the game is missing some management screens - i.e. a screen with all your ships listed, a screen with all the improvements you have build on a planet/in a solar system, a screen with all your planets, their size, current military and social projects, moral, income, expenditure and bonuses from improvements - just to mention those I miss the most. Oh - and the zoom in/out function? I would really love to have such one on both the large and the small map. Hope this isn't too

I've noticed - actually I think someone else mentioned something similar - that ships only get misaligned when atttempting to enter the square of an object they can't legally enter - be it a scout trying to enter the square of a solar system or another race's ship, or be it a warship attempting to enter an enemy solar system.

In response to CariElf: The Galaxy View froze, so I couldn't pan from side to side or up and down. I am still able to select other screens. Haven't tried taking a new turn.. I'll keep the ALT-Tab errors in mind, and simply forget about them - so I don't clutter this forum with them when I post from my debug.err

In my current game, what happens is the following: 1) The Engine starts flickering between ships with left-over movement. This I fix by hitting "Find" until it stops. 2) Now the screen is locked. This I can fix by switching to Economics or Government or Research. If it doesn't work the first time, take a stroll amongst your planets.. Since they refer to the actual code, I figured you'd be happy to get them.. Debug Message: Flip: Surface is Restored. ASSERT ERROR in file g:\projects\galciv\source\starship.cpp at line 1929. Hmm..I think I've isolated the problem. It occurs more and more often, the more ships I have auto-moving. Apparently it starts right after I've used "Find" to locate a ship that hasn't moved, and moved it. Then the Engine tries to jump to the next ship, but doesn't stop there - instead it starts cycling through all ships with left-over movement.. That should narrow it down pretty much for you :) If I'm not mistaken it relates to this line in the debug.err: Debug Message:

I'm in favour of it. An please keep ot to "Quit" or something as easily understood...not like in Europa Universalis, where you have to "Surrender" or in Planescape:Torment, where you have to "Abyss" to leave the game Did the marketing guys get too close to those games? I wonder :D

Currently I have a situation, where the screen is locked. I'm on the starmap with two ships, which both have destinations outside the screen. Trying to move the screen results in a screen that jitters, but won't move. Found this in debug.err: Debug Message: DEBUG: USS Mockingbird is still targeting this dead ship. Debug Message: Surface Lost. Now restoring. Debug Message: Trying to restore back surface. Debug Message: DirectDraw Error: WRONG MODE Debug Message:

Another issue is the sliders on the Economics Screen: 1) There's a rounding off error, making it possible for you to have 41%,30% and 30%. 2) They get out of sync with each others. 3) The arrows doesn't work. And the small detail that when you set two areas to recieve the same level of funding in percent, one might still recieve more funding cash-wise.

I've had the experience several times, that my ships get confused and starts moving in all kind of directions. Also I had a ship (defender) getting misaligned to the grid after combat. It was a pain to move, since I could only catch it by clicking "Find" until it was selected again. Last, a suggestion: Would you consider implementing a line between a ship and its destination - perhaps only visible when the ship had focus?

If you read the story, humans went and made the millinnia old technology of stargates transportable. Before us, war and colonization was only possible by generation-colony ships. However, the other races have known about each others for ages and have had all the time in the universe to explore. Of course one could argue for the more realistic approach of the alien races knowing about the best systems in a certain distance from their home system, since it becomes increasingly mo

010 020109 0001 S --- On the project management screen (where you purchase military and social projects), may I suggest that you insert a picture of the items being build along with a bar fro progress and spendings remaining - I forsee a problem with getting enough space for projects with very long names.
