Galciv II (fully updated) gets an "unrecognized response" from the Metaverse.

Congrats! I was one of the OS/2 users...loved GalCiv I . My all time favorite was Entrepreneur, though! Brad, where's my Linux port?!? Now that I work at Red Hat (via JBoss), I need it! Army No. Va.
seems to work now after a reboot (had a blue screen of death shortly after).
Latest Version of GaCivII posted Nov 16 or 17...061. Menu button names do not show up on load/save screen nor in the game after updating tonight. Also, I cannot seem to get the movies to download...any ideas? Thanks, Army No. Va.
well, hell. i forgot to install the mm update! it works! thanks. army no. va. ~SDC~

The update fixed the mouse input build starbase and surevy ship auto survey problem. Music still only works for Drath and Korx. ~SDC~
It seems the music and the movies work on the diplomatic screen for the Drath and the Korx only. No other movies or music work. Sounds (like battles) work. ~SDC~
When I launch GalCiv - Altarian Proph. - from Stardock Central, the screen goes dark like its starting up, and then I get Galciv had a problem do you want to send ot Microsoft and Windows kills the process. ~SDC~
Sample music - Beethoven - plays fine in Windows Media Player. The Media Center configuration and test all worked which extensively exercised the video and audio. ~SDC~
SoundMAX Integrated audio. Analog Devices Inc. ~SDC~
SM Alpha Centauri works including the movies. Interestingly, SM Alien Crossfire doesn't. Stops with a "CPU not supported" message. I have a 3.2 GHx P4 with hyper threading. ~SDC~
User define playlist is off. I cannot build a starbase by clicking on build...I have to hit "B". I cannot make a survey ship "auto survey" by either using the mouse nor the keyboard. Movies do not play....neither does music. Battle sounds work. The media center works find for movies and CDs and sound tracks. So far, my only problems are with GalCiv. I will install CivIII and see what that does. Army No Va ~SDC~
I just moved to a new Dell Dimension 8400 Media PC. I installed DirectX9c (latest from MS) and followed the rest of the directions in the Sound Problems post below. It eliminated the hangs and crashes and allws ship battle sounds to work. However, music doesn't work. Also, I cannot use the mouse to build starbases (need to hit "B) and cannot enter numbers for money to trade or bribe (have to use the mouse). Running Win XP Media Edition 2005. Any further advice? Ha
The Wraith has 800 hit points! Didn't you mean 80? Army No. Va.
I believe the cost of starbases is too much...esp for a larger universe. It effectively curtails their use for culture attacks and relgates them to improving productivity and other on a few of your choice sectors. Why the change? Army No. Va.
A couple of bugs 1. at about Dreadnaught, the ships graphic is not loaded and hence the ships built are invisible. one needs to restart the game and load the game to see them. this happens in 1.13 and before as well....because 2. cannot load saved game. it crashes Galciv after 100%. I like the minor players being more minor. Also like the pictures for them. Good start. Army No. Va.
I installed this and played it. It worked fine. Except after I saved it and shut the game down. When I restarted, it just crashes GalCiv. Running this on top of 1.13 and Win XP with fixpacks. Army No. Va.
I am able to win at average in a gigantic galaxy fairly easily now if all the AIs are the same (evil or good) as I am. I like the cultural attack and victory! The AIs didn't seem to be able to do much about it at this level or did not know how. But what is posted above is key...you must get a good base of planets and it's better if you are not surrounded by everyone. The same goes for the above in a tiny galaxy (on Beta 3B). I also like the evil and good mood / setting changes...
after playing a while (100-200 turns), my starbases and ships in space seem to suddenly take damage w/o being attacked. why? also, can ships / starbases repair in space? i don't see this happening even with numerous repair techs...perhaps i missed what this repair feature is supposed to do?
why do the info graphs take sudden dives periodically then correct? it makes for difficult reading plus is asthetically ugly.
i'm moving into mid-game with a gigantic galaxy. performance is much improved. however, i notice that habitable planets "everywhere" does not produce anything close to what i'd expect. most of the sectors are empty and many of the stars don't have 15 + planets. it seems more like what i'd expect for average planet concentration.
soil enhancements is +1 to class as is habitat improvement...so a 13 class planet can become a 15 fairly easily. I do colonize all 14s. Sometimes the 13s.
thanks brad, i'll check this out today...will start a game. i ran into the tribute bug twice only a couple of turns later in that autosave game i sent you. but if that's random and not already seeded in the pipeline, then you may not see it. the yor definitely want my rear in that game and you should see it perhaps after a few tries. pierre
the autosaved version is Sept 2191..i'm just going back to this game now as it crashed after this. i'll send it to you, brad
