Energy shields can't be bypassed by Directed Energy Weapons One of the philosophies of energy shields is that it blocks evergy coming at it at SELECTED FREQUENCIES (hopefully a whole bunch of them). This is because of the old invisibility conumdrum - if you block ALL the light, YOU can't see. Hence the usual compromise (in advanced systems) of

i used to love getting my butt handed to me by the Scottlingas In my games (GC1)it was the Carinoids that always ended up with a whole star cluster and planets full of battleships & dreadnoughts....

in space nuclear explosions seem less "exiting" In space you don't have a major component of the damage triad - blast (nothing to carry it along - like air ). All you get is the heat and radiation effects.

It allows you to attack (non- orbital fleet structure defended) planets multiple times per turn. If there are 20 ships there you must pound at it 20 times when they don't defend as a fleet. Might slow you down You can attack Orbital Fleet Mgr defended planets multiple times, too. The Orbital Fleet Mgr just means you are attacking fleets (based o

The only one I can really think of that is really applicable is the last 2 miniturization techs and then only for versions 1.2 and before - the sizemod adjustment system has been modified for 1.3. IMO, all of the other "don't go there" warnings will depend on your style of play &/or your strategy for the particular game.

it is a good idea and it is realistic you wouldnt construct a massive battleship on a planet because the chances of it taking of if it doesnt have decnet engines are very slim so you would construct it in space. What's to say that the current starport construction facilities aren't already in orbit? Finished ships end up there. The ground

I, too liked GalCiv 1 & AP, (and still occasionally play) but there are sufficient differences in the mechanics of play that you won't gain an advantage in GC2 by playing GC1/AP first. Download the demo of GC1 and see if you like it and make the decision based on that.

Does just one starbase have effect or can I pass a freighter through many starbases area of effect to stack the bonus? That's mainly what I was thinking. i.e. if the planet is in the area of effect, is it pointless to have a starbase half way down the route? The trade income is enhanced while the minifreighter is in the starbase's area of

You can't always avoid aquiring a new tech. Even if you don't research the farming techs or trade for them, you might steal a farming tech from the AI when you invade one of their planets or spy on them. If this happens, and you don't want to have your farms upgraded, you can go through your planets and take the upgrades off the production "to-d

New ideas! Can: a) starbases be given movement points, or b) ships be built that act like starbases? (when constructors intersect, add a module) A Terror Star by any other name.....
