Alex, Since this message board is for GalCiv I read your post in that context. Sorry. Cheers, Jack

I just went back and restarted the game. This time I skipped "Galactic Domination", leaving it in the list while I researched "Beyond Human". After completing "Beyond Human" I let the research for "Galactic Domination" proceed. The next turn I got the end of game stuff and still had not completed "Galactic Domination" or had a chance to research "Final Frontier". Since "Beyond Human" is the prereq for "Final Frontier" is seems the end of game should not occur until "Final Fronti
In the last game I played when I completed researching "Beyond Human" I expected the research list to show "Final Frontier" as a choice (the only choice since I had researched everything else). But it did not appear on the list. Not only that, but the next turn gave me the end cut and end of game windows. Cheers, Jack
Try this: On a turn, move all ships except the last, then hit the space bar ("skip turn" function). Look at the turns left. It is unchanged, it still shows moves left, but you can not move the ship with the direction keys. Hit the space bar again or click on the "find" button and the number of moves for the ship go to zero. This only happens when done on the last ship with moves left. Otherwise, the "skip turn" function changes the moves lert to zero and selects the next s
Cari, I don't know. I have tried the print-screen and alt-prtscr tricks but nothing happens. I think MS forgot to include it. Noone has been able to point me at anything that will turn it on. Cheers, Jack
Alex, Do you mean like in MOO2? The OS/2 version never had that. Cheers, Jack
Yeah, but what is there that is even worth watching? But then, perhaps at my age one gets to the point of thinking one has "seen it all". Cheers, Jack
There is more to this than meets the eye. It takes a specific path to the planet list to get this behaviour. You have to start with the planet list, click a planet (I clicked "Earth"), then start clicking the right or left arrow point near the bottom of the planet view. Selecting a star ("Sol"), then a planet ("Earth"), and then scrolling through planet views works fine. Cheers, Jack
Wow. I got it just after reading Frank's post. The crash address is the same, the call sequence addresses are the same, but the call sequence descriptions looks quite different. I think I like the new call sequence descriptions. --------------------------- Stardock SmartException Logging Information 04/23/02 14:08:39 ------------------------------------------------------- Versions: Microsoft Windows Me Internet Explorer 5.50.4134.0100 Video Card
As I was looking for a planet for which I had forgotten to start a social project I noticed that the list for the planets in a star system was displaying the list for the previous star, not the current one. This is very strange, because I don't know just where it got out of step. I will look again and see if I can spot it. This is on a gigantic map with all the habitable planets colonized (so there are a bunch). Would anyone at stardock wish a copy of the saved
Frank, Must I echo what you surely have told your children many times? ("Have a little patience.") :D Cheers, Jack
Frank, How about plain old simple quote marks (")? Cheers, Jack
TV? What is that? Digital cable =~ $62/month here. I have been trying to convince my wife that we should go back to analog. There is very little on TV, even digital cable, worth that much. Cheers, Jack
I still think GalCiv is going to be out before MOO3. But, yes, I am waiting for MOO3 as well. I just hope it isn't as dissappointing as CIV3 is for me. Cheers, Jack
Paul, You have stated the two most important things to me in computer games. 1). Let me win. :d 2). Keep me in doubt about my winning until near the last (let me see my success coming, don't suddenly suprise me with sudden victories). :d Cheers, Jack ps., I have decided I don't like CIV3.
I can't imagine a shipyard as a ship, able to travel beyond the orbit of a planet. Such a ship would have to be huge with horrendous defensive capabilities or it would get destroyed. If I was faced with an enemy with such a mobile facility I would put very high priority on destroying it as quick as possible at all costs. Cheers, Jack
Alex, Thanks for giving me the information. I did not remember seeing anything here like this. Also, I was able to go back to the autosave and proceed from there well past where this failed. I guess Cari can throw away the files I sent her if you all at stardock are confident this is the same bug. Cheers, Jack
I have not seen this one before, and it is kind of peculiar. The only thing that is frozen is the "next turn" function. I can select planets or ships, I can call up subscreens, etc.. The "turn" button looks stuck in based on the way the graphic looks. I have the game saved. When I try to restart the game it comes up in the same condition. This game is with a gigantic galazy with all the races active. I will send the game to Cari for a look see. Cheers, <b
I haven't been able to decide how I feel about this. My biggest problem is that ship travel in space games like GalCiv tends to be too linear to me. The views I have seen and heard seem to conflict about whether GTL travel will be linear or not. I guess I will just have to "go with the flow" on this one. Cheers, Jack
It would be nice if those new to this forum had access to the comments made when it was first put to use. Can someone please summaries the ideas and features that have been suggested and indicate what ideas are planned to be included at some future date? Has anyone at stardock a planned date for the transition of this forum from beta status to full release? Thanks, Jack
I should add that transprots, colony ships, and freighters are ships that are one trip ships. Hence there is no need for a shipyard to repair them. Once they reach their destination they are scrapped. Cheers, Jack
Although there may be many ways to win the game, I think there is one point forgotten here. While the Terrans (you and I) might be trying for a cultural victory the Drengins may be trying for a combat victory and the Yor may be trying for a trade victory. If you ignore the possibility that the AIs for the other races might be trying to win the game using a different path than the one you are using you could be defeated much too easily. With the MetaUniverse that goes with the g
You did a great job with the OS/2 Galciv AI, and you will do a great job with this one. Don't worry about the reveiwers. Cheers, Jack
Can you change my nickname for me? I have had no luck editing my WinCustomise account to change it. If "Jack" is taken, how about "lucky jack"? Thanks, Jack
I thought the question was about only one particular aspect of the entire game. Jack
