Bamdorf: You might try an SFC scan. It will detect corrupted system files and correct them.

Would it be possible to have the "load ship" window tell us what type of ship is to be loaded? Is it a transport or a colony ship?
I have seen the sound go off when I shift the focus away from GC3 and am pleased that it does so. I also think it goes off if the game is idle for a certain amount of time, which also pleased me, but I have not tried to figure out how long it takes to do so. Giving GC3 something to do has always turned the sound back on for me.
If there is any interest in the debug files, I can add them to a ticket, but I couldn't duplicate the freeze, so I am not sure there is any point.
there is always a reason for sending in a ticket for freezes. Yes, they can be horrid to debug, but Stardock can do wonders with no more than the debug.err file. And since you are getting the freezes so often, they can suggest things to try. Just today I received a recomme
Bamdorf: Have you any other games running at the same time? Have you tried items 2 and 3 in my reply # 13 on this thread? I find it hard to believe that you are using up all of the 8GB RAM you have if the only game you have running is GC3 unless there is something else wrong. If you still have this problem after trying items 2 and 3 (my reply #13) then I think you should follow the steps in the " GalCiv II Support FAQ</
Bamdorf: I have not seen anything yet about your PC's configuration. Please run DxDiag, post the output to a "dropbox" like facility, and share the file's link here.
Any way we can get a more complete minimum/recommended specs from an official source, even if it does change on release?
The only thing I can find is " Galactic Civilizations III -- FAQ " via the "Game" tab above. Other than not knowing about your display card, it looks to me like you are good to go. To get an answer about your display card you may wish to contac
What about the rest of GC3's minimum requirements? Your display card may be a moot point if your OS is not Win7, Win8, or Win8.1, not 64 bit addressing, or you don't have at least 6GB RAM. (While the requirements specify only 4GB RAM, this is only beta and the optimization that might allow it to run on 4GB has not yet been done and it seems to need more than 4GB to run smoothly at the current level.)
It seems to me that I do recall having to give a captcha response when submitting tickets, but I didn't have to with my last two tickets. Is there something about the process where it finally recognizes a source as not automated?
I think I am seeing the same thing -- not sure -- going to have to try for it specifically, but what is "soak and auto"?
Vatticson: What I saw in the DxDiag file you posted was that you only have 4GB RAM. Please review what I said in reply #8 of this thread. Have you tried increasing the RAM you have?
Damonlundy: Here are a few things to try: 1) If you are playing the game in full screen mode at your max resolution, try reducing your resolution a bit (I play in windowed mode at 1600*900). There have been a few reports on this forum about troubles at some of the higher resolutions. 2) Delete the prefs.ini file in your "...\documents\my games\galciv3" folder. (You will have to re-establish your preferences.) 3) Through Steam, delete your local content for the game, th
Damonlundy, please run DxDiag and upload it to a facility similar to "Dropbox" and share its link here.
Vatticson (and BlackFlag66): I looked at your DxDiag output. While the RAM requirements specified for the game is 4G, I have seen the OS allocate upwards of 6G (for the OS, the game, and all other apps running) in the Beta 2 build, and upwards to 5G for this build. The game is still in beta and has not yet been optimized, so they may yet be able to get the game to run with only 4G RAM by the time it ships. Until then, you may see reduced performance due to page thrashing unless you add some R
I have yet to see the OS assign more than 6G of RAM when playing GC3 (2G for OS and a smattering for other apps, including Steam, and somewhere less than 4G for GC3).
Anyone else feel that the new sound effects, such as clicking on a planet, building a improvement, putting something in the starbase queue... that the new audio that goes with them is a bit heavy on the bass?
I think they are a bit intrusive and annoying -- period. I would like to be able to turn them off while leaving the other ambient sounds on.
I am finding a lot of the "actions done" sounds annoying. May we have a way to turn them off while leaving other ambient sounds on?
Stardock has responded to my ticket that they already have an internal ticket for this problem and that a fix will be coming soon. They were unsure if the fix will make the next patch, however.
When the mouse is hovered over a tile benefit icon (such as the "haven" icon shown in this screen shot) the tooltip window is too small. I did get it to flicker to an appropriate size, but then it flipped back to the too small size after a couple of seconds. This happened on the first colonization of a planet, and when viewing the home planet (earth). The save file shows it well. This screen shot is at <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/e0va4gg3trt0328/Screenshot%20Tooltip%20Text
I think it is great if you have fun with modding and don't mind having all of your efforts to be for naught when the next build comes out. Just the same, I think it would be better to wait until all of the features are shipped (1Q 2015) and avoid some of the frustration of all of that lost work. I think your patience will be well rewarded.
I agree that critiquing something that has not been shown to us is useless. It is like critiquing the contents of a gift wrapped box before it is opened, completely inappropriate. Ideas about what it could, should, might do could be useful to Brad, but complaints about how bare bones, ignorant, blind, etc. it is is of no use to him or his team at this time.
Windows 7, windows 8, and windows 8.1 will use about 2 to 2.5 GB, any other games you have running will use a good chunk, and any other apps you have running will also use some (but smaller) amounts. You may want to evaluate what is using how much. Thus far I have not seen anything that makes me think GC3 has any memory leaks.
Yes, Yes, YES!!! Also there shpuld be3 something in the planet screen that shows what the planet is sponsoring.
Yes!!! And there should be a way from within the planet screen to remove its sponsorship of a shipyard so it can sponsor another one.
You need a 64bit OS, Win7 or up, to play GC3. It is one of the requirements listed. GC3 is coded in 64 bit mode.
I mentioned in the OP that GC3 already has a progressive fee for each additional SB built - it's just not enough to slow down the snowball. In general, if a strategy takes less than 20 turns to pay for itself, it will be difficult for an unprepared opponent to stop it: they have to research the needed military techs, build the necessary ships, and send them over to you, before your enhanced production allows you to defend against them.<br /
