Since we know that our system is not the center of the galaxy, and since we often refer (via arrogant presumption) to our quadrant as the "Alpha Quadrant", perhaps the rational that the part of the milky way involved in this game is the alpha quadrant and is the quarter of the quadrant that bears positive numbered grids of the quadrant could be used to explain the all positive (from 0) sectors. Some kind of a story about why the other 3 quadrants are not part of the game would need

Cari, I assume this is going to be corrected at some point? It is really a pain to try to attack a transport that gets to move onto the same tile as a starfighter or battleship with only a move/turn of 1. Cheers, Jack

RJL, Mathematitians also start counting from 0, especially when graphs are involved. Also, in Star Trek, Earth's location is referenced as 0:0:1 (graph coordinates). I like your other suggestions (although Brad has indicated that movements of fleets is a few releases down the road). Cheers, Jack

Cari, I think it would take a very sophisticated spell checker (with lots of context checking) to catch the difference between "taped" and "tapped". Speaking of spell checkers, I could really use one on this message board. I have it turned on for everything I can find (I am on Netscape 4.7) but is there something this forum type has to turn on to make it work? Thanks, Jack

Cari, I got it again on the 3/2 build. There is also a strange error message in the debug file, and the content of the exception file is sufficently different that I am including it here. The debug files last line is: --- Debug Message: No AutoSave files in current directory. ------------- The exception file content is: ----- OS Version : Windows ME Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS (IBM) Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Cr

Hey, that sensor bouy looks great. The new Planet List graphics seems to have a problem. The 16, 17, 20, etc. planet class to the top left of each planet only displays the first numeral (1, 1, 2). Also, the red and green bars are gone. Those bars were very nice and I miss them. Cheers, Jack

No big deal, just trying to get these recorded before I forget them. If I don't record them here where I expect to be looking for them I will loose them. 1). In file MONEY01.ANOMOLY "... your team has taped into a resource ..." should read "... your team has tapped into a resource ..." ("tapped", not "taped", unless they were using tap to do the probing. :D 2). In file Wormhole01.ANOMOLY the word "has" was spelled with a double "ss" (someone's keyboard may have a <br

I think I have figured something out on this. I find that I can get a ship to drop out of autopilot with a single left click once in a while. Even when not in autopilot, getting a ship selected with a mouse seems difficult. It is as if the hot spot is too small. If I don't position the mouse exactly at the center of the ship it will often fail to select. IMO the hot spot for selecting a ship should be the entire area within the area that the "selected" frame covers.

After several tries to save and load I gave up. The failure was total. So I tried uninstalling, with a complete purge of the GalCiv directory, and reinstalled. Now it is saving and loading ok. There must have been something left dirty, but I haven't a clue as to what. Cari, After looking at the above exception data, if you can't nail the problem down, please post here what you suspect. Then testers with previous builds having the same problem (anyone?) will have a chance

I started off with a tiny galaxcy and got the following when I tried to reload a game from the autossave. The game can not be restarted. I have preserved the autosave files. -------------- OS Version : Windows ME Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS (IBM) Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Crash Addr: 0043CDD1 01:0003BDD1 E:\DRENGIN.NET\GALCIV\GALCIV.EXE Processor Registers (x86): EAX:00000000 EBX:844EC3D8 ECX:00000000 EDX:00000000

Cari, You may be on the right track on this one. This time I looked at the last entry in the debug file and found this message: ---- Debug Message: Cancel Destination for Drengin Empire BattleCruiser 90 because dead. ------ Since I am in a long protraced battle with the Drengins I suspect it lost an attack on one of my ships. Cheers, Jack

Paul, Do you have autoturn turned off? Do you always remember to turn it off after reloading a game? If not, you might have been fooled into thinking you were in the same turn. (Loading a game that was saved at the end of a turn also advances to the next turn.) The saving non-clicked events for 3 turns is new to the 2/25 build. Before then it always deleted the non- clicked events at the end of each turn. The new way is a definite improvement (Thanks, Cari).<b
