When upgrading an existing ship, say a scout, to a more advanced ship (a newer scout), I may not want to upgrade to a ship with less speed, or less sensor range, or less range, but with the information currently displayed about the upgrade choices I have no information to make such a decision. Can the tool tip display more information about the newer ships capabilities?

I am finding it a bit annoying to constantly re-establish the position, angle, and zoom amount of the camera every time I reload a saved game. Please add these to the list of things to be added to the saved game files (if it isn't already there).
I looked up MicroSoft's Surface Pro 3 specs, and since MS advertizes this tablet as a replacement for laptops, it sure looks like this one, which comes with 8G RAM, should be able to handle GC3. However, there may be something in it that the SD people haven't seen, so you should report this issue as described in the post " GalCiv III Support FAQ ".
I would call any Crash To Desktop (CTD) a bug. The post " GalCiv III Support FAQ " describes how to report them.
Everyone, re-read the original post and the title. I may be wrong, but "work laptop" can, and sometimes does, imply a company issued piece of equipment. My point is that you should modify only those machines which you directly own unless you have the owner's permission. Another point is that he has not indicated any of the machine's properties. If he already has 8G or more of RAM, adding ram is not likely to do him any good. Stewapet, my recommendation i
Buy MOAR RAM online and have it shipped to you're home, then you can have fun again.
Don't ever modify a machine you don't personally own without the owner's consent. DARCA, I know you like to be sarcastic sometimes but you should really be careful about statements like this. You could get someone into serious trouble this way.
After many CTDs in the early game or when trying to stress the game, I ended up deleting "local content" (a Steam option) and re-installing the game. It did huge wonders for being able to play a game without a crash.
Crashcatz, the plan for crashes was stated by SD to be use of SteamWorks, which, unfortunately, doesn't work with 64bit programs. So they have been advising us to follow the procedures in the GalCiv III Support FAQ .
DARCA, I have been watching the processor usage since Alpha 1 (I have the "all core" monitor), and as far as I can tell, it looks like the game already takes very good advantage of all of my I7-4770 threads (4 dual thread cores for a total of 8 threads).
I've seen this too. Could it be hardware or driver related? I have an i7-4770 and GeForce gt 640.
I think I have just resolved this issue. It got to the point where I couldn't even start a game without it crashing during the first turn no matter what I did. So I deleted the "local content" and re-installed the game. I now wish I had run the "verify integrity of game cache" option of Steam first, but I didn't think of it in time. Anyway, I am now able to play a few turns with any faction while using the game console, and am proceeding with seeing just how far
Currently if a player tries to join a game and doesn't have the same level code as the other players the game just terminates without any explanation of why. Not knowing why can be very frustrating.
Mormegil, I really like this. I have one observation though, and that is a 6 tile limit would just about limit the eligible sponsor planets to only one or two. I can understand not wanting us to seriously exploit this mechanic, but couldn't this limit be scaled to the galaxy size?
another option although annoying would be to build the colony ship empty and then you must send it to a world to pick up population.
While this may be an annoying solution I think it makes good sense. The shipyards build ships, but why should the shipyards supply colonists or troops? Having to pick up the colonists or troops by orbiting planets would be more sensible and would give the opposition an additional oppor
They had a large multi-server failure earlier today. They have to bring up each server one at a time, and the Avatars are on one that hasn't been brought up yet. And Brad posted something on the Steam forum and they put something out on twitter as well.
It looks like eveyone's Avatar has taken a vacation. The forum was down earlier today so maybe that had something to do with it. I asked them on chat, but they haven't responded yet. When they do I will post what I find out here.
zero - you are right you could abuse far away travel by pulling troops from great distances. I think having supplies coming from cross galaxcy is a bit dumb. I'd prefer only pop and resources to be from immediate planets.
I think this is turning out to be an "unanticipated consequence" of the hole idea of the shipyard mechanic, It definitely needs some rethinking on StarDock's part.

Agreed. I am also hoping to see number-pad keys used for movement. Keys 7, 9, 4, 6, 1, and 3 for NW, NE, W, E, SW, and SE.
On the chance this might somehow be hardware combination related: I am not seeing these problems with an Intel i7-4770 (without an integrated GPU) with 16G RAM and a GeForce GT 640 GPU with 12G RAM. StarDock has already stated that they are working with Intel about performance issues with Intel chipsets that include an integrated GPU when paired with another manufacturer's Display driver card.
I think the word is there will be. Just a bit early I guess. On GC1 and 2 it caused your empires morale to start tanking, but since morale was out, and is now in -- or is it -- I guess we will have to wait another build or two to see what they have planned for it.
The StarDock devs have said the ship path smoothing is not ready for external testing yet,
So my question is, does the AI get a bonus or able to ignore the rules of the galaxy in their area? Is there something that says there will be this many habitable planets in each cluster?
You can see exactly what bonuses the other Factors (the AIs) get in the startup menus, where you can select what factor you want to play (for now, What happens when you can select optional bonuses has not been exposed to us yet). Here is a question to everyone using the command console: Has anyone tried using the command console in turn 1 before managing your first planet? Did it crash? Then did you try managing your first planet first? Did it not crash? Your answers may become advice to avoid using the command console until the end of your first turn. Maybe.
