One of our objectives is for people to have the option to play new "Immense" sized maps ...
Wonderful. However, with what I have seen so far, I am becoming suspicious that 4G of RAM will not be enough to support them. Are you planning to include code to check how much RAM is available before permitting some galaxy sizes?
... where there might be hundreds of empires playing.
Jack, I assume from the screen shot you posted that this happens pretty much as soon as you start the game?
Yep. It showed the instant I started the game. It was so bad that I didn't try to do anything at all once the game displayed the main map. I also had this problem several weeks ago with the Beta driver and posted an issue here. In that thread I showed some of the debugging I tried and found that there were
Why would it be limited to architecture if a rollback to a previous driver works?
Any new hardware architecture requires new software to implement it. Sometimes it takes a few iterations to get it right. It is quite possible that NVidia is not testing their driver with GC3, which could be using more of the newer features of the architecture than cur

Anything that matches or exceeds the system used by Civ5 would be greatly appreciated. I hope the Devs are willing to give us some hint on what it is going to look like when the game is done.

From what I read on the NVidia web site, the level 340.52 GeForce driver has a lot off issues, not just with GC3, but with a lot of other games as well. If anyone needs info on how to back off the NVIDIA GeForce GT series driver from the troublesome 340.52 level, here is what worked for me: To roll back your driver (I recommend the 337.88 level) go to www.nvidia.com -> "Drivers" tab ->"Beta and older drivers", fill in the six fields (a
Didn't know that I was told to do that through windows to change m maximum memory size like this and to change it every so often to increase computer performance. The windows default is one ad half times. I'm going to try it your way since you are a computer expert to.
Now I really don't know what you are talking about.
The vram needs to be between tree or four times your physical memory doesn't it.
Huh??? Sorry, but your question is, in itself, confusing. VRAM means Virtual Random Access Memory, where as "physical memory" is typically referred to as RAM (Random Access Memory). And I don't understand why anyone would try to set a fixed ratio between them, since that is more of a function of application behavior,

I am becoming suspicious that the crashes I am seeing may be related to the size galaxy I am playing. It may also have something to do with the amount of resources available (but I don't think so in my case) so I am including some hardware information. If everyone could post an answer to this questionnaire, perhaps we will find a pattern. OS RAM GPU &n

I have some questions I would like to see answered on the dev stream: Will there be a patch released for 0.31? Have you figured out a usable level driver for the GeForce 6xx series of GPU? I have the latest non-beta driver on (337.88) and am told that a lot of my problems are that I don't have the latest available driver. However, when I try the Beta driver (340.43) it causes horizontal lines on the main map that makes the game unplayable. Are you working with NVid

You didn't mention using MaleWareBytes. You may want to try the free version, and don't set up any of the automatic functions -- avoid interactions between it and your anti-virus suite. You haven't mentioned what level OS you are running. If it is Win8 or Win8.1 your last resort could be a Windows Refresh. I had to do this because of "adware" and a "browser hijacker" that came at me from out of the blue (probably from some freeware I downloaded).

Agreed, Larsenex. It would work, but the cheapness of it would be very apparent. Your ideas are good ones. I just don't think they fit in with the GC pattern, and I think SD has built the game in a way that makes it very easy to add a much more elegant and credible solution to this problem.
