Is there any chance this will lead to a few new libraries? Apps like rainlendar, ezpop, and kewlpad, to name a few, take up very little space/bandwidth, and are at least as popular and useful as Beatnik. And Xymantix's new SysMetrix app is very cool. If people are going to start skinning it, it deserves a library for sure. Actually, a UIS1 skin will not necessarily be found as a sub-design, sometimes the main skin is in UIS1 format. The way to tell is by looking at the skin preview in Display Properties. If there are 3 windows shown in the preview, the skin is UIS1, if there are 2 windows, it is a UIS2 skin.

Well, you didn't ask about 3D wallpaper. The majority of the artwork on this site is skins, made in either Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, or The Gimp. It's confusing, because it sits there on a list that shows what things are using up, so it appears that it is using up 87% of your resources. XP has a new font smoothing option called ClearType. It produces a similar effect and you can select it in your Display Properties. On the Appearance tab, click the Effects button, then change your font smoothing setting to ClearType.

Yes, you can change the boot screen by replacing critical operating system files with files made by 'some guy on the net'. Of course, you can also toast your OS that way, so I wouldn't recommend it. Open IconPackager (it should be in your Start menu under the Object Desktop folder), click on the Tools menu, and select Restore all Icons. That should do it. I like to roll windows up instead of minimizing them for the following reason. When you minimize a window and then restore it, it takes the OS a minute to redraw the contents of the window. When you roll it up and then unroll it, the window contents appear immediatley, because they were never really gone (the window was just resized to hide them).

hehe, well I have just used HTML and graphics I created in Photoshop. Do a Save as ... in Internet Explorer and choose "complete Web page". Then just pick through my source code and images and you'll see how I did it. Basically, it's just HTML tables and GIFs.
