Two recent events brought me to my current dilemma. First, I upgraded my video card. I bought what I thought to be a reasonably priced mid-range card. I'm not a gamer; I just wanted to eliminate some of the jerking and hesitation my old card seemed to produce. So I moved up to an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT w/ 512MB RAM. Just so everyone understands, the card seems to handle a basic set up very nicely. However - Second event - my company decided to upgrade everybody to flat panel

For anyone who doesn't check out the screenie in the "Screenshots" forum, the original of the wall, by Paul Barcellos, Jr., is at: http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details.php?id=1324 Among the sizes available is 1680 x 1050 (which I use). So Jafo, you can use a clean copy for your screen and give credit where due.

Thanks for all the various ingenious solutions. I have to say that I do find it strange that a program devoted to providing the ability to place icons and shortcuts into a dock format doesn't address the presentation of those icons. Obviously, given the nature of these boards, the creation of decorous docks is the priority for the community, but I would have thought (given that I have no programming or skinning ability) that the Stardock programmers could include a little sub-r

I saw this tonight and I finally decided I had to ask the question. In this very nice screenshot by Chasbo: https://www.wincustomize.com/zoom.aspx?skinid=21338&libid=13 the icons in the dock at the top of the screen are spaced evenly through the dock, rather than being bunched all on one side. How does one achieve this effect? I feel as though I have looked at every option possible in OD+, but have never managed to achieve that effect. What am I missing?

You may want to check and verify whether the msstyle is intended for use with Vista. I had noticed a while ago that the current version of Skinstudio always generated an error of the type you mention when I tried to convert a Vista msstyle. I was informed that the current Skinstudio cannot convert those files. The next version of Skinstudio is supposed to allow for it.

A quick question for those who are more technically inclined than I. On occasion I will find a Visual Style over at deviantArt that I really like. In the past I would download the style and convert to WB format using SkinStudio. Lately however, I have noticed that most styles will not convert, and the error message "themes.ini missing" will pop up. I assume that this has something to do with the fact that lots of skinners are making styles for Vista. The questio

Wizzygirl - CD Art Display does just that - it puts up a copy of the album cover along with other information that you specify: artist name, track title, album name, etc. It will also allow for a rating display (1-5 stars) and a Progress Bar display. You can, of course, change fonts, colors, positioning of the information. It does not provide media player controls, so you have to have another program such as WinAmp or WMP running concurrently. When you first run CD Art it will

Hi Wizzygirl. There's a good chance that it is "CD Art Display" formerly known as WimAmp CD Case. http://www.closetosoftware.com/?s=cdartdisplay You can set it to load when iTunes loads, or WinAmp, or most other media players

Frequently I create a toolbar where I would like to insert some space between pop-up menus or icons on the bar. Aside from entering a multitude of separators, I have found no way to do this. What I would like to do is enter another instance of the "Extra Space" that shows up in every bar when it is first created, but I haven't found a way either to copy it or to enter new "Extra Space" from any of the commands. Any ideas? Using version 2.00.009 of OB

Personally, I find clicking on a few options in Control Panel a lot easier than downloading upgrades and patches. (I thought that was the purpose of "Automatic Update".) In any case, after downloading from the link above and having the problem not resolve itself (as indicated in my #2 above), I went back to the Windows web-site and ran the Update page again, and discovered that the download from #1 above required 5 separate update patches. After downloading and installing those (another

Sorry, still not powering up as I would like. When I hit the power switch, I still get a box asking for my password. In Control Panel->User Accounts, it now shows the two accounts: my (adminstrator) account and the guest account, which is turned off. The only option which seems to be relevant to my problem is the "Change the way users log on or off" option. If I click on this, I get "Select logon and logoff options", of which there are two. The first is "Use t

Recently, I had to replace my hard-drive due to a fatal crash. The reinstallation went well and I am once again up and running. I also took this opportunity to put in a new video card, an ATI Radeon X1300 Pro, after restoring drive functionality. I have always preferred to be able to just turn on my machine and go. Since no one else has access to my machine, I feel perfectly safe setting up my system to go straight to m

"Should" being the operative word. I have been using the "paid" version for more than two years now. It also seems clear to me that the "update" function does not do what I thought it does, and that the cumulative effect of the function's failure to truly "update" the programming will eventually result in the dreaded "meltdown". All of that being said, I would still be interested in hearing from anyone who can give me a rationale as to why the blind(s) in question fre

After another hour or two of work today, I finally got WB updated to the point where my system information agrees with the listings above. As near as I can tell, the SDC "Update" function was simply adding new copies of files to the WB folder and not removing old versions. After unloading and uninstalling WB, I went into the folder under "Program Files" just to see what was still there, and saw things like "Wblind.dll(2), wblind.dll(3) etc., all with different dates associated with

Complete failure at this point after undertaking the uninstall/reinstall regime recommended above - Uninstalled WB. Shut down. Rebooted. Went to SDC to try to reinstall WBC. Got "Downloading WB5.sdc for approximately 45 minutes, with the progress bar cycling endlessly from 0% downloaded to 100% and back again. Finally canceled the (obviously) ineffective download. Used System Restore to reset myself back to yesterday morning. Will now ignore

In my brain "Update" means "Update". When I click the "Update" button in SDC, I assume that the purpose is to download all pertinent new files and delete out all old, out-of-date, no-longer-used files. From your comment above, am I to infer that this is not in fact the case? Is it the case, rather, that we have another example of the infamous Stardock alchemist's secret formula approach to working with their products? In English then, I need to: 1) Uninst

I was hoping someone might have an idea about this. Like everyone else, I visit the site and eagerly download new blinds that I think look interesting. My most recent download was JJYing's Arzo blind, which was as stylish as I could hope. However, I have had to delete the blind as it doesn't work well with my systems. Specifically, while the blind loads nicely and looks great, I can not switch away from it. If I try to change from Arzo to something else, the system fades to

I have a standard format bar that I like to use no matter what the rest of my desktop is doing. I use it in two ways. I have a version of the bar saved that references the current WB theme I am using and pulls colors etc from that theme. That way the look of the bar will change to match a new WB theme if I change the theme. I also have versions of the bar that reference one specific theme and only that theme. In whcih case I can use that bar

Just another little warning. Based on the article above, I went out and downloaded Jemaho's Vista 2.4 and tried to load it using WB 5.50.021 and it froze the program. I rebooted and immediately deleted the file, but since then very little has worked the same. Anything weather related (widget, konfabulator, samurize plugin) has not worked, regular widgets fail to show up on the screen, ObjectBar operation screwy, and a multitude of other small annoyances keep popping up. <br
