Okay, I'll bite. ScottK must be using some piss poor monitor if he thinks the widgets in that screenshot are awful. Stepping through them... I see a fish swimming on the desktop. Konfabulator and Avedesk can't even do animated widgets like this. Ditto for the globe. I have that globe and know it spins fluidly and the animated lava lamp. The picture frame widget looks just as good as the Konfabulator one and Avedesk doesn't ha

Thanks! I don't think most people realize just how much time has been spent on getting this done. Brad, Pat, JR, and George have been working horrific hours recently trying to get this site going. There is so much involved just in getting it up and running. Kind words are appreciated - I can assure you of that.

Once the kinks are ironed out, I think you'll like the new site much better. I also think the personal site themes will return in time. But it's a matter of priority, the basic site functionality has to get nailed down first. The performance improved, etc. The Old WinCustomize.com, the one you liked so much, didn't have most of what you liked about it when it first went up. And the features that got added were taped on and taped on to

It will surely take time for some of the niceties to get re-implemented. I much prefer the new site overall though. Once they have a few little things like the editor not being gigantic and a button to take me back to the top I'll be happier.

We've all seen Brad get flamed when he makes posts and articles and what not that advocate some Stardock program. The argument goes that only "neutral" observers should be talking about programs. Which I think is total nonsense. If we did that, then it comes down to whose program's supporters are the most vocal without any sort of fairness. Look what happened with Style XP. When it came out, it got a free ride because people thought it was freeware. The freeware advocates derided W

I've seen a lot of people trying to say that liberals have no moral values. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of liberals try to say that conservatives come from "Jesus Land". Conservatives believe in a smaller government in which families and local communities take care of themselves. Liberals believe that a larger government with more resources can help take care of the entire society in a more fair and equal way. Both sides have their pluses and minuses. Let's not forget that

Voting for US President is a choice between two men. This year's choice is between George W. Bush and John Kerry. It is the most important job in the world - in the most literal sense. With George W. Bush, we know his positions. His positions are plainly stated and ones he consistently keeps - sometimes to a fault. In our post-9/11 world, I think we need to know where a candidate stands on certain issues, espe

Wow, check out how much the Avedesk fans have conquered/enslaved the once might AquaSoft: http://www.aqua-soft.org/index.php/news/2004/09/03/desktopx_aamp_super_icons#comments You can't even make a non-avedesk related news item there without the avedesk fans taking over.

WindowBlinds needs our help! Every time a new version of WindowBlinds shows up, a group of its detractors shows up and begins trashing it. The quality of WindowBlinds is high enough that they don't fully succeed in smearing it but it ends up always having a distinctly lower approval rating than it should. Read some of these reviews and put in your vote! http://download.com.com/3302-2326_4-10288557.html

http://www.guiolympics.com/forums.asp?MID=97&CMID=97&AID=16832#61528 Anybody who's been following the GUI Olympics has by now noticed the extreme levels of anger and complaining by the Winamp skinners in the contest. They don't like the judge'd results. They don't like the choice of judges. They don't like the website. They don't like the forums. They don't like the event descriptions. They don't like the organizers. They don't like the judges not having to explain their decisions on ea

1) Blaming Stardock for the outcome of the Winamp skin events is absurd. At most, they had 1 of the 5 judges. No one had more say over the Winamp skins than Nullsoft. 2) On most usable, do you guys realize that a classic skin could easily have won this given that the event was about usability? What does effort have to do with anything? It's about how usable the skin is. 3) Listen to the Hamster. The Winamp community is looking really bad.

The Spanish, as a collective, have expressed their cowardice at the ballot box. The first action of their new leaders does nothing except harm innocent Iraqi people and embolden the very terrorists who attacked them. Bullies prey on the weak. Spain can look forward now to more attacks I fear.

Some people say the United States behaves like a world bully. There's a term for those people: Morons. Pampered morons but morons nevertheless. Let us pretend that in 1944 when Roosevelt died that his Vice President was actually I. Bully. He was actually the genetic twin of Adolph Hitler. And as World War II came to a close, he instituted a policy of world bullyism. What would he have done and what could have been done about it? 1945: The entire population of Japan is e

Islamic terrorists like Osama Bin Laden write an open letters to the American people advising them to eliminate the homosexuals from society. This is one of the demands Al Qaeda has if we want them to stop attacking us. The same people who then would protest American military action against these hateful bigots then turn around and become amazingly intolerant of Christians who oppose gay marriage on religious grounds.

My oh my how some people around here are so narrow minded that they are intolerant to other people's opinions. Liberals are very tolerant as long as you parrot their drivel. Maybe if Marvin were an Islamic terrorist preaching the same thing these same bleeding hearts would suddenly be torn about whose opinion mattered on the subject.

I don't see Brad making any personal attacks. I have seen claims by certain people here that he has personally attacked them but they never specify a quote. Telling someone that they are ignorant on some issue is not a personal attack. What I see is someone who just doesn't want to encourage neophytes to participate in debates he sets up unless they are willing to do the work necessary to keep up. If you want to play in the big leagues you better be s

Remember high school, Muggaz? Remember the morons who just didn't do their home work and goofed off? How would spending whatever minute amount of money Australia spends on its military going to help them? People have to want to learn. You will always have a certain percentage of people who are poor because it serves the political powers to have a victimized constituency.
