no offense, grey, but I have no idea what you mean by "complete control in ways Photoshop is only just starting to mimic". Unless it is PSP, there is *no* app that has more control than photoshop for image creation or maniputaion. I'd be happy to know some of the features Fireworks includes that Photoshop lacks or does a worse job at.

Fireworks is good for what it does, but it has never really been a graphics creation app. I know they have added a lot of stuff to it lately, but originally it was a slice-and-dice app. When they say 'create web graphics', they don't really mean stuff as in-depth as wallpapers, etc. I used it a time or two at a friend's house to shrink the size of jpgs. It is more like Adobe ImageReady than Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. If you buy Photoshop, you get ImageReady with it, so I have sinc
Once they peel the $649 US out of your fingers, PS isn't all that bad, just $129 for upgrades, ($149 if you pay high retail). I think 8.0 is supoposed to come out this fall. I'm gonna watch the support forums at Adobe really, really close this time.
I gave up on this one about 5 am EST. If it wasn't reasoned in, it can't be reasoned out...
If you can get one to work without trashing legit email, let me know. I'm too sceered to risk it. People get agitated when they are waiting on a payment or an item and the email bounces.
Boxxi: i'm not half as old as I feel...
kona: i can't find anything that says there is a desktop environment with Darwin. I see people saying they use X with it. Looking at what Darwin actually is: http://developer.apple.com/macosx/architecture/index.html I dunno how they could make the Aqua interface available with it. Do you have a link to something that talks about the Aqua GUI coming with Darwin?
Between PS6 and the release of 7 I was darn tempted to use PSP. I dropped back to PS 5.5 for most of that time. I would have been better off waiting for 7.0 than wasting the money for 6.0. That was the only time I have had to deal with tech support at Adobe, so they weren't *able* to be very helpful. Not a lot to work with.
Kona: it is my understanding that the desktop environment isn't included in Darwin, so no OSX interface. not much point in running it without it.
ZDNet says that Gates owns 9%. Several articles are saying MS dumped their Apple stock over the last 2-3 years. My apologies for passing on facts without looking them up.
Might not be 40, but I thought that was what I read. It's been thrown around here a number of times by Mac people as an argument as to why Apple will never release OSX for PC. Lemme look around.
Considering Microsoft owns 40+ percent of Apple, Gates gets richer if you buy a Mac as well.
Youji: I don't doubt there is some work here done with Warez. I'm not gonna say that some software is fairly priced, either. There are always affordable alternatives, though. I doubt there will ever be a way for site owners to makes sure images were made on legit software. Anyway... The outrage wasn't really about what the Mac site did; that could have been an honest mistake, as I said in my first post. What made people get on their hind legs was how the site reacted, denyi
No, I don't think people would rally around ya even if you were someone who we all know *cough*. "As for the pirated software comment": None? no, i can't say that, but you didn't say none, you sald "half the work". A good deal of the work here is made by a few people, and I feel quite sure your statement is false.
kona0197 : I don't see a single statement above your "PCs and Windoze suck." comment that was insulting to you. LS_Boreas was wondering wy anyone with OS10 would want to look at a windows interface. Retaliate all you like *shiver*, but it might be nice to wait until there was something to retaliate for.
"half the work you admit into the WinCustomize database of graphics is probably made by pirated software" I think you are on the wrong site. Dangeruss was appreciative of what was done, so your point is pretty flat. Actually, is anyone upset about it but you? I think there is a pretty strong contingent of "real artists" online right now that are disproving the whole "If you like it pass it on" thing. Anyway "Your status work only within the communites to which they are obtai
pfft. oddly you find yourself 'insulted' probably once a week. Everyone knows you think PCs suck, you're just baiting people when you keep saying it.
lol, Microsoft software on Mac hardware... what a comination... The worst of both worlds. Gimme OSX on PC hardware and I'd probably never look back. ( the preceding was a response to Kona's continuing, baseless "PCs and Windoze suck." moronathon... )
Jafo: Nah, don't waste them, take a peek at Dave's "Something Postive in the news for a change..." string. Recycling need not be limited to alumin(i)um cans.
Hrm, could be any number of shell replacements as well. A lot of people use a Windows style taskbar in LS, Talisman, etc.
I will say in Koasati's defense, PSP is probably gonna give a n00b skinner a functional level of comfort a lot quicker. I have no idea which is more efficient for a power-user. A great deal of Photoshop's productivity comes from sense-memory and automation. I can blaze through a lot of tasks with keyboard shortcuts that I would be completely unable to verbally describe without picking up a manual. I would be instantly crippled on another app, at least for a while.
A shame that this causes more work for admins. You'd think there would be some way to structure things so people are pre-emptively dissuaded from being ignorant pissants.
...this was what I was kinda advising against with my secondt post. The right person is gonna wander in soon and it is gonna be ugly. A lot of other religions would qualify for that definition of "splinters from sitting on the fence", can we please not get this started?
?? jeez, people can be touchy about this. I don't see anyone downing PSP. If ya feel that "PSP is every bit as good as PS", K, great, but those of us that use PS aren't 'following the crowd', either. Considering the price, I doubt PS is digging very deeply into the 'skinning, and and non-workplace photo editing' market. Warez copies, maybe... People should consider, though, that PS is as much business software as Office XP, it is just a different set of tasks. For that reason, it i
