Why do people keep complaining about the IT support problems? It seems like such a minor problem. If people aren't computer literate in XP, they won't be in Vista. Vista won't make things better or worse for people who don't know what they're doing anyway. Yeah, every OS has holes. But at least according to the article, Microsoft isolated parts of Vista so a virus or worm can't do as much damage. Yet.

There's going to be a lot of crap, and only the occasional good thing. I don't think it's a good idea for people to stop making things until Vista, since that could be 6 months or more. That said, people should think twice about posting certain things...

I think Windowblinds is being redone to work and take advantage of what Vista offers, rather than just emulate it. At least I hope so.

He never really disagreed with the ExtremeTech article. He just said Microsoft 'stole' the ideas from other software, or that Linux or OSX is better. Look to me like someone is trying to find any reason for Vista to not be too good. In fact, because an anti-Vista person couldn't come up with any actual criticism, I more impressed by it. Completly uninstall WB4.6 Reboot. Install WB 5. Yep. Usually this is the best thing to do in order to avoid headaches.

Well, it certainly looks good. But I'm not convinced I should upgrade right away, if at all. Since so much was changed, I bet there will be major compatability problems. And there wasn't much discussion in that article about the DRM and media restrictions. But I admit, from that article, it looks a lot better than what I thought it was.

I think this is pretty user friendly. After looking at thomassen's list, there are more versions of XP than Vista. Tablet and Media Center Editions will be included in Ultimate. Not sure about a 64 bit, though. I don't see any problem with having a few different versions. You only get one version with a Mac, and I bet most people don't use a bunch of the crap they give you in there.

Why would they do that? Ultimate costs the same amount to develop, yet they'll probably charge a whole lot more. But at least there is the option not to get charged a fortune. Macs don't give you the choice of not getting ripped off.

There is no perfect computer, though. All the operating systems have their problems. I just want one that isn't intrusive, easy to use, and lets me do what I want. I think XP is pretty good for that. While Vista actually looks pretty good, the DRM is enough to make me avoid it. I guess I'll stick with XP forever.

It's funny how people were freaking out about 8 versions of Vista, when it's really just 3 we have to deal with. Last I checked, there are 3 versions of XP too. I'm just wondering about the prices... I'm a little confused about the N European versions though. Vista will have Defender and Gadgets/Sidebar built in. Does this mean that they can get sued by Spybot, Adaware, etc. developers? Or by widget developers, like Yahoo, or even Stardock?<

I think there would be way too many problems created for this to work. If the DRM is part of Vista, I think there would be way too much backlash for it to stay. I remember when Windows ME came out, and we heard nothing but grief from everyone. I think a year later, XP came out. While I doubt Microsoft would put out a new version to get rid of the DRM, they'd probably have to update Vista to eliminate the DRM.

Yahoo seems to only be putting a half-hearted effort into it's newly aquired widgets. They've only advertised it for one weekend on their front page. I know they're working on a sidebar, but the developer's are only saying that it's looking 'very interesting.' Seems to me like Yahoo is wasting their opportunity with the widgets. I doubt Microsoft's sidebar and gadgets will be anything too great. It will probably be more of a selling feature

I believe Yahoo is working on a sidebar, and will integrate Yahoo widgets. Might be interesting. Don't know when it will be released though.

PS7 is definately capable of producing good work. CS2 has some great new features, butnot everyone would use them. Take a look at what's new in CS2, and see if it's something you need. If you use Illustrator, you should definately upgrade to CS2. There are some great tools in Illustrator. Once you start using it and get to know it, you'll see how much better it is than Photoshop.
