Thanks guys. I think have some excellent suggestions now!

I also pre-ordered it. I am not playing it yet though. Seems to become good, i.p. as I like better diplomacy. I hope the ai and combat will get more balanced as well.
Who knows any books that have the kind of Sins stories of huge space empires battling each other in space? Any good suggestions for authors and/or titles?
In most 4x tbs games you can give ships or even planets to other players. Maybe this is an interesting suggestion for Diplomacy as it concerns this subject. It can be effective for example if you want to win quickly by demanding planets from weaker players in return for a cease fire or help your allies by giving them ships if they are resource/logistics contraint. What do you think? Devs is this fairly easy to implement?
What exactly are the devs working at the moment in the beta? Are they improving AI as well?
Thank you. I found the answer. Which is that armor only applies to the hull and not to the shields (in contrast to shield mitigation).
Go to these post https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/370937 and read reply #27 and read how strong & epic capital ships can get at current game rules. It's amazing!
"FA is a stand alone expansion" Does it play better than the orginal? Did they optimise the game so that it consumes less system resources?
Unfortunately nobody has the answer it seems to my question. Perhaps the developers can answer?
"AI should also be nasty and evil, jumping in together with the pirates to get that extra oomph when fighting the enemy." Is that wise? Isn't it better for the AI to wait before the pirates to have done the damage and then drop in after the party? Or even better, attack at the same time a different planet? I say this because I fear that the pirates will also start attacking the AI instead of their intended target.
What kind of software do you use to synch your music player? Any good suggestions? I was using Songbird but that didn't really work so smoothly with my Sansa clip 8GB.
Quote: Better yet, why not give a player who has the most territory the power to arbitrate for his own gains (think oil-for-food)? This is exactly how it works in Galciv2 at the moment. People with more influence (which is highly related to territory) get more voting power in the UN. There seems to be quite some support for the proposal to have a UN kind of diplomacy forum. Any more votes in favour? Opinions from the devs are appreciated!
Whooo galciv3! Please no total war kind of ship combat. Keep the focus on strategy not on tactics! That's my humble opinion.
Is there someone able to answer my question?
Just to make my question (perhaps) more clear: does armor affect the damage to shields or only to the hull, or to both?
Thanks for the explanation. Very helpful. I have just one question left: does armor work to reduce every attack, also if the shields are still online? Or does armor only kick in when the shields are down and attacks start reducing the hull?
What do you mean by "HC"?
Do envoys have weapons? If they don't, then it seems strange to me for them to be larger. How do envoys affect culture spreading?
I use the newest version of the browers of Google, but since today I'm having problems to login on the galciv2 and sins forums (I fill in the two forms, but nothing happens). It works with IE8. But I prefer to keep using Google Chrome. Any solutions?
Great AAR. Really loved it. Makes me want to buy Sins for sure!
It would be cool to have diplomatic incidents that involve trade offs with which you have to deal. Another idea is to have a galactic UN (like in galciv2) wich regulary meets and can impose sanctions and has a separate army (kind of pirates) to restore peace and stability.

Thanks a lot. I will try them. I would appreciate some more opinions (although yours was very substantive) and suggestions for other games.
I am looking for some variation in play and am trying out various games. I would like to find a nice 4x rts space game. SOTS is not my thing, it has too much ship designing and tactical combat options. Armada 2526 just came out, but has no reviews yet and seems to be buggy. Now I've found that Civ4 has a "civ4 in space" mod, called final frontier. See also: http://www.firaxis.com/community/bts_finalfrontier.php and
