Not all graphs are important in the beginning of the game. But you have to make sure that you have a relative big population and economy. Those two are the most important in the beginning of the game. Also, do not get behind too far on research. When trading with other races ensure that you have a relatively high diplomacy rating since this will get you more bang for the bc. Your military rating, on the other hand, is not that important in the beginning. But after a while you should start c

Always make sure you have constructors near bonus resource starbases of other races. In the event of a war between two races it's very common to get the resource as the starbases are destroyed in the war.
The ONLY game I have that does not play nice with Vista is Homeworld 2 after patch 1.1 (Homeworld 1 works like a charm). After some research about the issue i found out that the 1.1 patch pisses off DEP in Vista and can only be fixed by disabling DEP when playing the game.
What's DEP?

Take a look at the strategy part of this forum. In particular, look for the older posts. Start with Dread Lords as the expansions can be even more overwhelming. Also, go to the galciv2 wiki, you can google it or find it somewhere on this site. Some basic strategy tips: - population is key in this game, but watch out for your morale, always keep it at 100% in the beginning as you get a nice bonus for pop growth. - start with a morale buidling on every new planet, d
Not to mention, when they have more banks, they have more money to spend on stuff you want to sell them.
Sounds like a real Ferengi argument. Still your enemies will become wealthier and therefore stronger. So it's not only good for yourself.
Colonial Speed Boost This is most helpful in the early game where the speed of your ships is the limiting factor as to how far you can expand. Simply land the ship on your planet, and launch in a different direction. This nets an extra one or two parsecs in that turn. I have used this to beat out other races for planets
How do you launch a ship in a different direction? In which expansion was this included first? Thanks for your answers.

Yes we have to wait until beginning next year. I have also read they are making a new series Caprica. This deals with the story 50 years before the cylons attack the colonies. In addition they are making a movie.

In the tv series babylon 5, one race was limited in buying weapons from another, because the value of is currency dropped as a result of the war (the were losing). It is nice when tv gets economics right.

Excellent suggestions. Especially the ones that focus on not taking a diplo hit. How easy is it to get other AIs to declare war to you, especially when your military is relatively strong? What are the best ways to do so? Just parking your fleet next to their home planet? Is is a good idea to not only bribe other players to go to war with each other, but also give them weapons, techs and money to actually win a war?

I also support an improvement of diplomacy. In fact I would even buy the new expansion if diplomacy is improved in a future patch. Not only does the Ai have to improve in judging trade proposals, but it would also be awesome if you could offer non-aggression treaties.

I wonder how you guys pick your fights in the game. Do you first go after the weak races or do you first go after the big guys? Or do you bribe other races to fight each other? Do you first extort/blackmail races until they go to war with you? Which strategic considerations do you have in all these choices? What's your strategy once you declared war against a race. Do you fight them from one side or do you first sneak into their territory and wait besides their planets before ini

Fantastic movie! I can't wait for the next movie. I doubt, however, if they can find a better opponent than the Joker.
The influence of other races has nothing to do with your planets' morale. A plant will flip depending on the influence exerted on it by the other race. If the planet has 100% approval / morale, it can still flip. So raising morale will not prevent it from flipping. The only way that influence and morale are connected is in population. That is, a higher morale (41%, 75% and 100% thresholds) will grow your population faster and a higher population means more influence for that plan
Anyway, if given choice between 30% economy and 20% research, I'd go for economy. This bonus is always there, no matter what slider positions are.
But the other bonus(research) is also always there irrespective of what the slider positions are. At least if I understand Iztok correctly in his reply to this post.

Usually when my economy is full grown and all planets are developed, I tend to increase taxes a lot. In this way the money really starts flowing and I can use it to maintain my military. As a result, of course, my morale drops considerably. I allow it to drop to 41%, unless influence of other races is dangerously high. In addition you should always have morale high enough to win the yearly elections in order to get the bonuses.
