As someone who has also been bitten by this bug, I would suggest that you should not be able to upgrade a factory to a manufacturing capital, if it isn't an upgrade. I had a factory on a 600% bonus tile on a very small planet, and when I upgraded, boom, the manufacturing goes WAY down.

Something I'd like to see is fixed scenarios with separate metaverse pages. These scenarios would have the universe fixed (possibly with more advanced starts) or strange setups (large fleet but no ability to build any more ships), or something that would make the scenarios different from a "regular" GC game, and then when you started the game, your score would be posted to the metaverse, and as you completed it, (say every 5 years) you'd have to let the game update your score, and you couldn't
I suggest that these UI tweaks be put up such that we could vote on which ones are most important to us. Maybe get the 35 or so things and give each of us 10 points that we can distribute among the various projects to show the degree to which we want it. Of course, for anything that actually affects gameplay, votes aren't a good way to make that determination, but for UI changes, it's a good way to figure out in what order to commit your scarce resources. BTW, most of my point

Could someone point to the files necessary to fix the smartexception and mcpserver problems? Thanks, Frank
Oh, I thought it hit the monitor on the head with a tray. (:
I think the silver bullet idea is good, but it should only work for the defender. A ship that is attacked should have a very small chance of winning (say 1/(Attack + Defense + Hitpoints)) The silver bullet should only work after a kill of the defender has been calculated, and should the silver bullet work, the surviving defender should have 1 hit point. (BTW when I say "defender" I mean any defending ship, not simply ships of type defender) But attackers should not have such a silver
I've sent my debug.err file about a week ago -- any chance the new drenging manager (that fixes the smartexception problem) will fix this too? Frank
I nominate John Kistler for promotion to Lieutenant. Frank Fujita
Whenever I decomission a ship, and then go into the ship list and click on ships to see which of my ships haven't moved yet, I get a crash to the desktop. If after I've decomissioned the ships I save the game *and* load the game I don't get a crash. I think this is another manifestation of the autopilot bug. Frank Fujita
One word: Shipyards Frank
I think but am not sure that there is currently no dreadnought, excalibur, or other upgraded versions of the battleship or avatar. One thing that would be nice is if there could be a ship that didn't have a star drive. It would be forever stuck in the system that built it, but would be a sort of super-defender. If you took the warp drive out -- there would be more space for the shields. Of course, I'm under the impression that there isn't going to be a shipyards as part of
I've done this many times, I use a transport with 200million, and the resultant population is over 5,000million. It can create morale problems. I think it is because my troops have such a high combat efficiency (1234 to 2) but it is still a bug. Frank
Will do T-Man.
The auto-pilot bug is where your ships on auto-pilot don't move. If you have auto-turn on, then they just sit there. If you have auto-turn off, then you get to go through the ship list (which will not display the correct information for the ship until you click on the listing) one ship at a time to make sure that all ships have used their movement points. Calling it the auto-pilot bug isn't really fair -- ships that *aren't* on auto-pilot get missed too. I'm sure this happens in Giga
Bug Fixes: Mostly the auto-pilot bug makes playing the game un-fun. Better Info: Need good info about ships and planets. When you spend money on espionage -- you should get good info about the other guys too. Ranges: Make it user selectable. Fleets: Set up a system where I can send a transport with an Avatar to a system and nobody can kill the transport without killing the Avatar first. Defaults: Why do I have to start up every colony with Mr. Ford as the
It should take about 5 hours -- and I started the process confident that, just like with the GalCic code itself, if a download stopped midway through, the DGM would pick up where it left off, not re-downloading the files it had already had. Well, it doesn't. I'm now on my fourth attempt to download the multimedia files. Why does the DGM fail to recognize the already downloaded files just when it most needs to? Frank Fujita
Dysan Sphere?
As for me, I'd like to be able to disable a "are you sure" dialog if you implement one for colonization. Thanks, Frank Fujita
Is there going to be a list of uncolonized and colonized by other civ planets? If so, I'd like to sort by quality and distance from the currently selected (usually colony) ship. Also, it would be good if we could suppress uncolonized planets that are below a certain habitibility (for me 13, but leave it user selectable). Thanks, Frank Fujita
I don't have OS/2 installed. If I recall correctly, soil enhancement increased the planet class by one (1) not any percent. And I don't think that GC OS/2 even had a terraforming social improvement. Frank
I originally played my gigantic game in the watch enemy and autopilot ships mode. So that isn't the solution. This should have been a simple bug to squash. Frank
As the war period in my gigantic galaxy started up, I started having lots more problems with not finding all of the ships. Frank
I believe that this is an alien method of morale control. If a planet is thinking about rebelling, they empty the planet by putting people in transports. Or so I thought (this is from the OS/2 version). Frank
