Jack, Thanks for the correction. I was indeed a GC-OS/2 player, and must have picked up that piece of incorrect terminology there. Still, one crowded planet shouldn't take up the space of nine sectors. (: Frank

A word on the mini-map. I'd like a maximize button on it. So I could click on it and the mini-map would be full screen. And fix the population setting -- one crowded planet shouldn't take up the space of nine quadrants. Frank
That's what I'm doing now. But it would be more elegant to be able to launch an empty transport. When your moral drops too low you can load troops onto a transport, and then the morale goes up -- bet that's what the aliens are doing -- I've only used the tactic a few time in GCOS/2 -- when I was forced to do that it meant I was going to lose very soon. Frank
As a marketing ploy, the "on the store shelves" game could be Galactic Civ II, and you could have an electronic only distribution for Version 1.0, and then of course, you'd have to extend the Drengin subscription until the release of II. Just a thought. Frank
When I switched all survey ship production to battleship production, only about 4/5ths of the planets switched. The same thing happened when I switched from battleship to avatar. I thought I'd posted about this last night, but I can't find it. Frank
As the colonization period in my gigantic galaxy ended, I started having fewer (if any) problems. My guess is that you have a limit on the number of ships in space and when you have more ships than that, not all of them get a chance to move. Frank
4). Are you saying you would like to send a transport or colony ship out of orbit without any occupants? Why? I'd like to be able to build a ship on one planet, send it to a second to fill up with people, and then send it to a third for an invasion. Frequently the second planet needs to be building defenders while the first planet has spare military production capacity. Frank
Hopefully, if you disagree with the UFP then you can go to war with everyone rather than being unable to violate the rules. Also, some other UFP proposals: one sentient, one vote -- why should rich powerful planets have more say? one planet, one vote. Are there going to be any outside forces that everyone will be able to agree on? -- Tax to reduce piracy. Are there going to be any humanitarian issues? Help the Wardell system from going super-nova. When I open the ship list the ships show a "movement left" box. This is not updated. So at the end of a turn, when all of my ships have moved, the ship list shows how much movement the ship would have at the beginning of a turn. If you click on the ship *then* it updates. Along with being able to filter (or sort) the list, the data needs to be updated to be useful. Frank
I'm wondering about having the AI use the tech path used by the top Metaverse scorers. Although I'm not one yet, I expect to be in the top 20 eventually. In any case, a very rough guideline that I'm currently using is: Keeping an eye out for things that will get me to Battleship, take techs that can be completed quickly. However, whenever exploring a research anomaly, change research to the tech that will take the most time, keeping an eye out for speed enhancing tech. Now this metho
The crashing program is MCPServer. Frank
Well, ever since I installed the .66 DGM, I get a couple of errors on starting up my system. I know that smartexception crashes, and I think the name of the other program that crashes is MCP something. This happens on both my work and home machine. Frank
I'm playing in a gigantic galaxy and have *lots* of ships running around. However, I know that some ships are never "found," that is, I can click on the "find" button, and the ship has movement left, but the focus doesn't shift to that ship, and if I move the last ship that *is* findable, then the turn advances. I believe that some ships on autopilot don't move, and I also believe that I have some ships that are invisible and not moving -- the only evidence that they exist is that ther
I understand the desire to get things right. I guess I'd say that pure bug fix updates can come as frequent as you'd like. New versions that are incompatible with previous saved games that add new features (and their associated bugs) should come out much more rarely -- say once a fortnight. Just my opinon, Frank P.S. I guess I was upset becuase I was about 60 hours into a Beta 1-C gigantic galaxy game when Beta 1-D came and had the diplomacy bug and the inco
I found the govenor screen, and can pretty easily create a production queue, but I don't see it affecting anything. Frank
Whenever I leave the diplomacy screen, GCWin crashes. Since upgrading DCM Smartexception fails on startup. Beta 1D Frank
There have been four versions of the Beta in 8 days. I think this is too often. It is difficult to keep differences straight. Frank
Can someone tell me how I can tell which version of the Beta I have? Frank
Sorry for my ignorance, but where do I download the newest DGM? Fuji Fun 4 Free
I get this error every time I start the Drengin Game Manager. Every time it tries to "update" several files and then I get this error. Then I click "OK" and it goes ahead and starts up. By the way, why does the DGM need to download images everytime it starts up? It isn't too iritating at the office, but at home with a 56k it is an irritating annoyance. Fuji Fun 4 Free
I played for about half an hour, with no problems. When I quit I got a smartexception report. Don't know why. As one of the people who will be culled. I just wanted to say that this sounds like a good plan for Stardock. If I had the time, the possibility of being removed would motivate me to play more, and report more. Frank Fujita aka Fuji Fun 4 Free
BTW, I think that the other races start with Battleship Tech. And Brad has said that the other races start with a full view of the Galaxy. I'd be interested in knowing how much else the other races have that humanity is lacking. Frank
On the other hand, I've been building a Battleship, and then switched to Defender, and out pops 5 or so Defenders, one per turn. It seems that the production is built up into a savings account that you can withdraw at will. Of course, that doesn't explain 100s of ships ... Frank Fujita
It happened when I was attacking a planet with a battleship.
