TinPlated: I do also like RPGs (adventure games aren't quite the same thing, but that's another topic). One of the things that made me like the GalCiv series is the great atmosphere and background stuff. The fact that it's sci-fi doesn't hurt either (not a lot of SF games out there, relatively speaking). I have played both Civ 1 and Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire and liked both a great deal, but I've never really had time to delve into strat

Nah, you're not a bonehead. I don't think I've ever come across a company-run thing like the Metaverse before, so it's a fairly new concept to me as well. Then again, I have to admit I'm not ordinarily a strategy gamer so I don't know if this sort of scorecard idea is common. I generally play adventure games. *sheepish look* Peace & Luv, Liz
It has to do with the GalCiv2 community scorecard, the Metaverse. In addition to the individual score rankings, people can join together and pool their scores into groups called Empires on another list. It's all about more bragging rights. Plus some Empires are full separate GalCiv-friendly communities with websites and forums and everything. Peace & L
You could join The Redshirt Brigade. All n00bs, misfits, goofballs, and/or people with cynical, demented, and/or self-depreciating senses of humor are welcome. If you're going to have a small score, might as well form a support group for people with small scores, I figure. (After all, lots of little scores still adds up to a big score... right? Right?!) Dave: Yeah, I was planning on tackling the Planetary Improvements and Tech Tree too. I figured I'd like having these "cheat sheets" for my own use anyway, so I might as well share. DuneTiger: Heh! Well, the best place for the data would be on the new Wiki, IMHO... I could work on converting it to Wikicode once I finish all the stuff, but if someone wants to beat me to it, feel free. Peace & Luv, Liz
I find it odd indeed that Wal-Mart has the game in their brick-and-mortar stores, but not on their website. Indeed, the Wal-Mart in my picture was the only place out of Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA that I checked that had it. I didn't check EB Games, but then, the EB Games in the closest mall is roughly the size of a dorm room, and thus not the greatest place for a photo-op. <b
I think how it works is that the total mining of all like resources is added together. For instance, if you have one starbase mining 15% economy, and another starbase mining 20% economy, you get a total 35% economy bonus. Peace & Luv, Liz
Hmm. Does the AI have "events" the same as the player? If so, maybe the Arceans had one of the influence-affecting events? Peace & Luv, Liz
Hmm. One forum quirk I've noticed... viewing posts with no replies doesn't mark them as read. Peace & Luv, Liz
Oops. (sheepish look) Sorry! I wonder if this is related to your problem? : https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=162&AID=102424 Peace & Luv, Liz
My roommate and I, being intrepid sorts, decided to embark on The Ultimate Scavenger Hunt. And lo and behold, it was at the Wal-Mart in Chicopee, Massachusetts that we were able to check one more item off our list. (Erm, sorry about no thumbnail... I want to save my bandwidth a little!) http://miscfile.alienharmony.com/galciv2/ultimate-scavenger-hunt.jpg Peace & Luv, Liz P.S. Thanks goes to my roommate for playing cameraman and helping me create the li
Not a problem. I look forward to seeing that Star Destroyer. Peace & Luv, Liz
Which race owns the planet? Some races have high Loyalty stats, and thus it can take forever for their planets to flip. Peace & Luv, Liz
Rhadman: Yeah, I have the "Login button not clickable" problem as well (although TBH I just use Opera's Wand anyway). However, if you type in your username and password and then hit the enter button, it should still submit anyway, AFAIK. Peace & Luv, Liz
1. Do trade and trade good have anything to do with each other? Yes, in the sense that trade goods can be traded much like techs, money, ships, etc. 2. Or are trade goods just the same as any other super project. Trade goods are essentially tradeable super projects. Meaning they provide civilization-wide bonuses like super projects, but unlike super projects you can trade those bonuses to other civilizations. 3. Do they increase the income from trade r
First, upload the pic to some webspace. Second, if you want to embed the file, do this: (insert URL here) If you just want to make a link to the file, do this: [link ](insert URL here)[/link ] (Remove the spaces from the tags.) Peace & Luv, Liz
Demealiz: Actually, no it isn't. Because the XML fields aren't in the same order for every ship part type I had to shuffle some things around manually... and I didn't get it all sorted out properly for the Sensors table. Oops. It's all fixed now. Tabasco Red: I can't take credit for the sortable table script... I snagged it from a site I had found in my various webpage making utility researches. There's a link to the site it's from at the bo
I spent some time the other night trying to cook up some suitable insectoid-looking ships for the Thalans. Colonizer: http://miscfile.alienharmony.com/galciv2/colonizer.jpg This one came out sort of spidery-looking. It makes me think one of these days I should try building a replica of the Deltaur from Space Quest 1. Worker: http://miscfile.alienharmony.com/galciv2/worker.jpg My constructor. Reminds me a litt
2. Hmm. What should be happening is that when you colonize a planet you'll see green squares which can be used right away, and then various yellow/orange/etc. squares. When you research Soil Enhancement, you'll be able to "build" the Soil Enhancement in the appropriate non-green square. Once the building is finished, it will "vanish" and the square will become green and useable. Ditto for Habitat Improvement and Terraforming. Also, if you ch
Both you and the civilization you traded it to get the trade good bonus. You don't lose it. P.S. They are not in the game, but IIRC the devs have said they want to put them back in at some point. P.P.S. Try this thread: https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=162&AID=102947 Peace & Luv, Liz
Requests: 1. I hear that... the stickys are useful but getting a bit out of control. 2. What do your cookie and refresh settings look like? The forums work fine in Opera, and usually if something actually works for Opera it works for Firefox. Questions: Um... There *is* a forum search function. It's sitting on the left si
Heh! Well, depends on what you mean by "by hand"... I did use a fair bit of CSS and Open Office's various options. As I once quipped to a friend, webpage making is about 10% coding and 90% copy and paste/search and replace. Prolly would be better to just use XSLT, but I'm not that great with that yet. In any case, I've finished the Sensors and Engines no
I don't know if anyone else would find this sort of thing useful, but I've been using my l33t (OK, not really) HTML skills to turn the game's XML files into something easy to scan. So far I've finished the Defense-related ship parts: http://miscfile.alienharmony.com/galciv2/ship-defenses.htm Note: The techs with question marks are where the tech requirements in the ship parts file didn't match up with any exact tech tree file techs... however, they did seem
Big96d: AFAIK you have to just do it the "old-fashioned way"... hit the PrintScreen button, then paste the result into your favorite image program. No auto-image save within the game itself, I don't think. Peace & Luv, Liz
From TechTree.xml: Subspace Rebounder Tech Cost: 200 Description: The Subspace Rebounder is expensive but provides enhanced protection. Details: The Subpsace Rebounder was found as a kind of fluke. While researching Shields III, one of our most brilliant scientists, who happens to be phsyically disabled, came up with the idea of an energy field that rebounds energy into a slightly different angle that allows
