I hope the upcoming Nitrous engine (not in GC3) can do for strategy games what the Unreal engine did for FPSes.

Its tough. I have played several games, got good, but then I've had trouble again with several massive population collapses. Managing resources is such a pain when you can be swimming in food one minute, then suddenly the next its all gone and my population plummets from 150 to 40.
I dunno, that wouldn't be very GalCiv-ish. Leaders in GalCiv are more disembodied. I like the sovs in Elemental (though I miss the dynasty/children from WoM, hope they make a comeback), but its a different game.
I remember in Master Of Orion 3 there was a race that can colonize gas giants or similar worlds. How about a new similar race in an expansion maybe. They can live and survive in gas giants. Oxygen worlds are hazardous to them. A unique way to play this race. Their worlds are usually huge but few.
Molecular oxygen is a gas. However, its a highly reactive gas, so much so that its molecular form is qui
I finally picked it up, and played more than a few hours of it. It's a fun city builder, but somewhat slow-going and leaves you with wanting more after you get most of your buildings established. I like it though, and need to put more time in. I just hope the developer puts some more time into this.
In unrelated news, the release of the GalCiv 3 alpha has been del

I must confess, I pirated GalCiv I ... but yes, did eventually buy it legally, and then bought GC2 legally. And today I finally caved and bought Founder's Elite. I've been playing TBSes since the original Sid Meier's Civilization (no roman numerals). Master of Orion II maintains a special place in my heart, and I also still occasionally fire up a lost gem, Interplay's Mechanized Assault & Exploration from 1996. I enjoyed Sword of the Stars as well
I miss the dynasties. I hope they make a comeback. Maybe in some future iteration with a more epic span of time for which one generation is not adequate. Maybe even have it to break from the cliche tradition of you, personified as the sovereign, not having fantasy-immortality; with a dynasty, your sovereign could and would eventually die from old age, if nothing else, but if you had married your sovereign and produced offspring, the game wouldn't end and your offspring s
Anyone who thinks Fukushima and Chernobyl are the only nuclear disasters needing cleanup, and we're safe in the USA has really not studied the issue. Hanford (in southeastern Washington State, USA) was closed down decades ago but isn't even close to being cleaned up. In fact, just a few years ago a major new underground water contamination was discovered that threatens the entire Columbia River system downstream -- all the way down to Portland, which is the largest city
Lets finally see a game with no real limits. The limits should only be imposed by the system resources and common sense. If you don't mind waiting 5 minutes between turns as the computer chugs through and iteration then so be it. I'm usually so deep/lost in running a sprawling empire that a reasonable wait would not even be really noticed. But people who are type 'A' can choose a smaller number of s
Not just 4X games, but PC gaming is completely dead ... and for that matter, the PC itself is dead!
Its not really ironic, given it acquired the name because the species was native to an island Darwin actually explored. We're having a problem here locally in the Pacific Northwest I just saw on the news today of a sudden rapid die-off of sea stars (commonly misnomered "starfish"), one species in particular has in just a few weeks completely disappeared in the vicinity of a pier. A common jump to conclusion among locals is it is the result of toxic pollution carried on the c
The best way to lift people out of poverty is to set them free. There is a strong correlation between freedom and wealth.
Where? Not in the U.S. The vast majority of wealth in the U.S. is inherited ... there is no freedom in the inequity that some people start out ahead and others are disadvantaged by being born to a family that isn't well off.
Guns don't deserve rights, and certainly this experiment that more guns in the hands of less responsible people has been a disastrous failure. The speed of light is beyond immense. The problem is when you make it a quantity like c, then 1c doesn't sound like much to some folk, and thus .0003c sounds slug-pace miniscule.
