Whoa, dudes, gimme back my thread. Hm. I made the original post as a side note and then left for a conference that lasted the rest of the day. Thank you all for making it a far more interesting topic than I had anticipated. I did indeed mean it as a backhanded compliment to this forum, as in 'this is how bad it could be.' "be all that they can be

I have been loosely following the development saga of CA's new game title, Medieval 2: Total War. I found a post today on one of their allied forums that I want to share. Normally I just ignore trolling, but having just posted about egregious whining in the Metaverse forum, I felt compelled to share this: CA/Sega Bit Off More Than They Can Chew? Note how the OP sets you up beautifully with an abrasive title and

I’m not quite sure why you picked the Yor Super Ability thread as an example Actually, I did not intend to hold the Yor Super Ability thread up as an example of trolling. If I came across that way, I apologize - I was up past my bedtime and probably not at my most coherent. The only reason I brought up that thread was to point out the fact that s

Is some form of popularity contest actually built into the Metaverse? In my opinion, this question and the question posed by the original poster are looking at the issue from the wrong angle. The Metaverse is. Period. What people make of it is the real issue here. The players who are innately competetive in the rest of their liv

Here is a link to the thread that started it all: YOR Super Ability has to change - look for the three or four Frogboy comments on page 1. I may have been a little off with the "speed is going to be about 8" part, now that I look at it again, but it will definitely be below 20 as it stands.

Instead of stargates or scaling: how about making it so that your ships get a movement boost in your own sphere of influence? Or the boost could be tied to being near one of your planets, but I like influence area better. This way you can at least build internal starbases in a reasonable amount of time and specialized ship-building planets on the other side of your empire can still be useful in a conflict. A good side effect of this is that it gives the AI factions a boost when

For a long time now, I've been building transports using a cargo hull, three advanced troop modules, and as much engine as I could fit. I've seen in other threads that Brad is almost certainly going to change the game so that the maximum ship speed is going to be about 8. If this happens, I will probably fall back on my old Assault Transport; it had a small hull (they stack much better in your fleets than cargo hulls), one or two advanced troop modules (depending on my miniatur

I don't mind the enhancements being less common - it makes them more of a bonus when they are not omnipresent. However, I think this first move was a bit of an overcompensation. It would be nice to see at least one enhancement per four systems or so.

The problem with ships with 40 or more moves per turn is that they might as well just set the difficulty down lower because that is what they've effectively done. and Ships moving at 20+ moves per turn is not how i

I'm a bit bummed to see that agents aren't well loved. I don't dislike the spies as they are; rather, there just seem to be too many of them. They add a certain extra something to the game, definitely. However, when management of ane one aspect of the game (for me, it's spies and constructors) starts to take up disproportionate amounts of

I don't know how closely related this is, but in my most recent 1.4x game, the Drengin surrendered to me without any kind of notice; the new turn just started with me owning all of their planets (well, the three I hadn't had a chance to take from them yet, at least). In my last three games, all 1.4 or 1.4x, several factions have declared war on me without a notice screen, too. These were all Medium galaxy games.

I've seen this lots of times elsewhere, though I don't think I have gotten that message in the game yet. I never bothered before, but I took a look around and came up with this wikipedia explanation . It's actually not as old of a reference as I had thought.

Interesting; I usually do exactly the opposite! I buy one factory on my home planet, then let all other planetary improvements auto build until the colonization phase is over. Instead, I put the military/social/research sliders at 40/20/40. I let the first few colony ships auto build for one or two turns, then purchase them. On the purchase turn, I drop military production to zero, boosting research to 80% for those turns (just have to remember to switch it back afterwards...). This giv

I've played all three of its predecessors; Shogun, Medieval, and Rome, and their expansions. Shogun was fantastic for its time; Medieval was decent; Rome was okay after five patches, but by then I'd had enough of it. I think I'm done with that series. Back in January, when I began to get the impression that M2TW was basically going to be Rome with prettier graphics, I quit even reading the forums for months. I took a peek recently, but even reviews based on advance copies don't make it

build financial upgrades to counter the morale problem. As of v1.4, that will no longer work. You'll need at least one approval-boosting upgrade (Entertainment Network, etc.) for any planet that tops 5 billion in population. As population increases, you'll need exponentially more morale improvements, which is why a lot of folks stop at one farm p

Lordpinko: One thing I have found about the Metaverse code is that it only works properly with Internet Explorer. If you're using something else, like Firefox, try it again with IE.

Greetings, salutations, and thanks for all the fish... I mean, for the invitation! It gets lonely running 'your own crappy little empire' as the diplomatic screen says, so I elected to join my current (and best) character TickTock Man to the fledgling Hegemony. It looks like we're within shouting distance of third place, but still quite an underdog for the top two spots. But hey, where I live we have the Redskins, the Capitals, the Wizards, and the O's, so I feel right at home.

Why eat a cow when you can BBQ a Thalan? Mm, yeah, I'd like the 16-oz prime thorax strip, medium rare, and could we get a couple more mandible crackers for the kids please? On a more serious note, it is not the farm itself that causes morale to decline. The farm just increases the planet's population cap. It is the increase in populat

I try to keep my populations building throughout the game, so I tend to build a farm (on PQ6+ worlds) as soon as the population nears the (was 5 bil, now 6 with v1.4x) limit. That way there's never a turn when my population (i.e., tax base) is not increasing on every planet. I also make morale buildings one of my first builds, though (fifth or sixth thing built), which many people seem unwilling to do. I haven't figured out what my max pop will be with v1.4x yet because I haven't gotten
