Hmmm. A suspiciously pointless pseudo-religious post making no sense and having no purpose other than to inflame pointless controversy. Be careful folks, I think what we have here is a

That's a terrific submission, Mumblefratz - see, I told you that you would adapt easily to the smaller format. Posting a pretty average game here - I just don't have time to take another shot at this round. A slightly higher score than Mumble's, but after two more years and with DA's higher planet count. Anyway, I expect it to be surpassed by a wide margin, and probably soon. Score: 22
TP Scot has asked to become the official VP of the Commissioner's office, to aid me in the compiling of scores at the end of each round. I have no objections, certainly - but you might want to brush up a bit on your math skills after that last round! I hope you are able to drum up some new players! <img src="http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/3
Did I forget to mention that I set the alignment to 0 (Evil as it gets)? Or do you just miss your disgruntled-soccer-mom normal Altarian leader, PlayJeff?
Thanks to Neil Gaiman and his book Anansi Boys If you liked that one, Patriarch, (and how could you not?) make sure you read his American Gods , too. Good Omens is another absolute must - that one had me in hysterics on the Metro at least once, drawing the sort of looks his characters usually get from the normals around them. The bit about the British motorcycle gang wanting to join the Four Horsemen, and the leader naming himself "Grievous
At last I have completed my 50-game quest with the HCH and am poised to begin my career of Evil! My civilization of choice, the Altarian Discordance: Race description: The desperate struggle for survival against the Dark Lords was going badly. The intrinsic weaknesses of the Ancient Ways spelled certain doom for the Altarians, but their leaders would not compromise. A small cabal of influential citizens took ma
How the mighty have fallen silent. About the same thing that happened to the Orcas a while back, I think. Just posted my 50th game as The Corinthian, my HCH character. I won't be withdrawing him from the HCH, but I am planning to put him on sabbatical now while I rack up some scores for the Tyranny. I'll be watching.
since 4 games were submitted, there shouldn't be a penalty for an unsubmitted game I agree that this should be true for Round 1 scores, since nothing was ever stipulated otherwise. Going forward, though, as I pointed out earlier, I think it would be a good idea to penalize all nonsubmittals, regardless of number of players on a team. I still however like bonus points to go to the highest scoring team Kee
the ai will go after what it perceives to be weaker factions Yes it does, especially in Dark Avatar. There seems to be some randomness in the trigger, probably a % chance every turn depending on other factors like the +/- factors you see in the race relations window. Whatever other factors apply, though, being weak militarily is a sure way to get attacked. And don't be fooled by alignment - The "good" factions will jump on you just as fast, whether you'r
If you want to go the really extreme route, you could buy another copy of the game and register it - that would give you three more characters! I'm sure Stardock wouldn't mind the extra sale. However, renaming an existing character and wiping its scores is probably the more economical choice. <a href="
Neilo, I could take a stab at it. If that doesn't work, I'll go on to hacking, slashing, kicking, punching, biting, and burning. Okay, maybe I've watched too many of those Barbarians shows on the History Channel... PM me the link and login info, I'll see what I can do. <
Sir, we've done it! It's the ship that will conquer the galaxy - the iDreadnaught! It has... Well, no sir, technically it's not as fast as the WinBattlecruiser. But you have to see it, it just looks so fast ... and so cool ... Actually, no, we decided to scrap our old computer system and use this other system designed on open-source software. But it's all totally safe and under control, at least the parts that we understand... No, sir, the iDreadnaug
IT'S A GAME IDEA. A shitty game idea. I've said as much as I care to about it. If you like it that much, take the day trip out to Auschwitz next time you're in Poland, you would probably enjoy the view from the tower above the railyard. Or Belsen if you want something tamer and in Germany. Or don't bother to learn about history and the world around yourself, because after all, unkenntnis macht frei.
I predict the iEmpire will do well - until the final confrontation:
scrutineering I don't think scrutinizing games is really necessary at this point - but that is an awesome new word, I love it! It reminds me a little of the bit at the beginning of Monty Python's The Meaning of Life - I picture a rogue band of accountants breaking down the doors at board meetings, "Arr, we come to inspect yer statement o' cash f
on the other hand the biggest threat to the continuation of the League is non submittals. I think we should try our best to discourage them at all costs. I would think at the very least someone could submit a weak win or even a resignation. That's why I believe that everyone should know that the worst they can do is to not submit and that if they don't submit a game it will always hurt the team. This is a very good point. It would help to encourage every
Jamius, is this a joke? Are you actively trolling, or do you seriously believe that something glorifying thugs, psychopaths, and mass murderers is acceptable? I don't mean this post as a personal attack, just please think through the ramifications of what you are proposing and the perceptions you create by doing so.
Any time you take over a planet is a good time to build a fertility clinic. They're dirt cheap, I usually put one at the top of the queue as my first occupation... er, liberation action. You can always build something else over it once your population is up and running.
The subspace annihilator has never existed, in DA or in DL. I always thought of it as a research project that fizzles, but that paves the way for doom ray research. The subspace blaster has always been the way it is, too. I guess it just doesn't work out the way your scientists expected. There is one extremely cool thing about it, though - put it on one ship and watch the visual effect when you use it in combat. I wish that would have been the doom ray weapon effect, instead! <
Personally, I enjoy a religious debate every now and then You know, if the threads in question were actually about religion or even viable religious topics, I wouldn't object at all. Look at the "God is nonsense" and "how can we all be atheists" threads, for instance. Both of those threads start with an inflammatory title and proceed with a poorly-conceived ramble devoid of substantive content. These are not "religious" threads - they are nothing
The Metaverse is the only thing that keeps me going all the way to the end of the game. I have the same problem with all strategy games - there comes a point where it is so blatantly obvious I am going to win that it's just not fun anymore. There is very little challenge in kicking an empire when it's down.
Seeds of Evil have been planted at the TBSModder forum . I had some trouble registering at the forum today, but Macmatt got it straightened out for me. I started an Evil Architecture thread so I wouldn't have to keep putting them here. It's a cool forum, I encourage you to have a look. If you want to register and have difficulties, Macmatt has been very responsive to PMs at the G
I never played GalCiv 1, but I think the way engines were handled in that game was instead of having engine components, engine techs just gave an overall bonus to speed (like the first impulse, warp, and hyperwarp techs do in GCII). I don't know if it would be possible to do this, but you might try removing the engine components altogether. Then you could give each engine tech a speed bonus and make them all horrendously expensive. <img src="http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/341/banner
You don't need to play as Krynn or Korath, either - they never got added to the requirement.
More downtime today, devoted to evil architecture. I thought it might be better to base a line of buildings around a central theme rather than a hodgepodge of structures, so I made a line of factories based on my old no. 3. Using the same basic structure, they progress in size and complexity but are still visually tied together. I also redid the starport. The original one looked, I dunno, neutral or something wimpy like that. <img src="http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/2171/scrnsht4mo2
