I too am opposed to the nonsubmittal penalty, if the team average score is what is being used. Dividing four scores by five players to get the average is a serious setback all by itself. Adding the penalty is just beating a dead Torian at that point.

As far as the non-submital I still think this is an awful bad thing to do to your teammates. If the team score is computed as an average, the penalty is built in right there, no need for further penalties; you've got four scores divided by five (for instance), which is a significant penalty all by itself. what does the 5th player do when there is a round where there is 4 different victory types? I'll procrastinate for now Why procrastinate now when you can always do it later? I'm looking forward to the start of the next round. Is there a comprehensive revised list of bonus/penalty points somewhere that I have missed? <img src=

I think it would be even cooler to put it in the hands of the U.P. Take away the ability to research the first level of all of the extreme planets form everyone, then have the U.P. dole the techs out like an 1800's style land grab. The dialog pops up, "Okay, people, you now all have the ability to land on radioactive planets. Go!" Then there's a mad dash to build transports and grab those planets, possibly having to fight off enemy fleets, and then researching the next level tech that w

Speaking to the original topic, an important part of a good colony rush is knowing when to end it. There are often signs that will alert you - large numbers of alien transports streaking through your outer perimeter is the most obvious. There may be a few low PQ worlds left in your sphere of influence, but you will have to rush buy transports if you really need those planets. Better to cut your losses, usually, and stop building transports. If the horde is not at your gates quite yet, b

That's a good start, PlayJeff - but not evil enough! Still, your heart's in the right place. The standard punishment should do - 40 lashes with the cat-o-nine tails, self-administered on the honor system. BTW, since it has nine tails (hence the name), that's actually 360 lashes. Use the double-hook barbs since you didn't notice earlier... I've seen at least one other player go over

A great way to christen the character. My thoughts, exactly. This game was why I decided not to have a second go at the round 2 MVL game. A small galaxy with abundant everything in DA is actually pretty loaded - I had 96 usable planets in this galaxy, with all 95 of mine contributing warships at the end. <a href="ht

At long last, Slay Belle has subjugated her first galaxy for the Tyranny. Is this evil enough for you, PlayJeff? As to how I twisted... er, I mean customized the Altarians to my own nefarious ends, I think that may be worth writing up in the Tyranny forum . Besides what you can customize right there in the race selectio

can't edit that post Yes, you can; click the Tools button at the top of the first post. I'd hit it (ctrl+n), too. Winnable or not, it's just going to be a long hard slog when a more enjoyable game is just a keyboard shortcut away.

That was actually a paragraph from an entry in a Bad Hemingway contest. I thought it fit just terrifically here, and I had had some drinks, so I posted it. It was not my story, but it was a perfectly wonderful story. I liked it so well that I had it bookmarked. I did not enter a story. I was too busy shooting at animals, and then having a few drinks and talking to some lovely girls afterwards. The sun will rise again tomorrow. I will write my story then, perhaps while

At Harry's Bar & American Grill, I had a few drinks. I only had 4 shots of tequila, 3 rum and cokes, half a bottle of Jack Daniels, a fourth of vodka, a shot each of Bacardi, Black Velvet, Jim Beam, Jose Quervo, Cutty's Scotch, Southern Comfort, Royal Crown, Captain Morgan, and some glasses of Guiness - I didn't feel like drinking much tonight.

Cruella - Your account has been activated at the team forums, but we don't know who you are. *Evil chuckle* I was right about her identity - look her up in the Metaverse characters list. Hopefully she will start a "101 Damnations" thread over there to show off some of her strategies. <a href="http://altmeta

Four words - "100% Approval" and "Tech Whore". Approval: It will make you grind your teeth in frustration, but keep tweaking the tax slider every turn to keep your approval at 100% from the first turn of the game. This will double your population growth, resulting in more taxpayers created earlier in the game. Keep this up until your home world is just about full (16 billion) before you start easing the slider up. As you increase taxes, use the colony manager to check that your other co

I'm having trouble trying to find time to finish a small galaxy game right now... Mostly, though, I stopped by to make a quick shameless plug for my Evil Architecture mod . Here's a screenshot of a planet I recently conquered with labels to identify the modified improvements: <img src="http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/5766/scrnshot6so2.th.j

On a related note, I'm curious - has anyone ever modified a race's base stats to match the AI races' insane bonuses at suicidal level? What bonuses precisely would that be, for that matter? I'm thinking this might be fun for kicking around the galaxy next sandbox game I play... which will probably be the TA beta, if we are allowed to play it. <img src="http:/

If you are really interested in stopping the perceived hate, at least on this forum, then please simply stop posting about it. It's not like anything is going to get resolved here, you are only perpetuating the argumentative flaming. If you want a really lively debate on the topic, take it up on the joeuser.com forums instead. You'll see some of the same faces, and people there eat this stuff up.

Sure, you can steal the tech, and yes you can use the ships if you are able to buy them. At first I thought there should be some kind of penalty for a good race that uses spore. But then I realized that they might feel they were saving billions of their own soldiers' lives by using it, so what the heck?

Dread Lord population shouldn't grow at all according to the back story It must be the population of minions that is growing. Evil lords of all kinds always have loads of minions, right? There's probably only one real Dread Lord on that whole planet, creating minions left and right and making them do his bidding. They should play like any other AI was the event is triggered That's the problem - they d

you forgot to tweak the morale buildings slightly Actually, they were heavily tweaked, just in the opposite direction from what you mean; they used to give higher morale bonuses in the original release. My guess as to why that was done is taxes - high morale planets were allowing players to set taxes unreasonably high while still maintaining healthy population growth and approval ratings. The downside is that now there is no perceived g

After reading that again, I think I should point out that I did not mean that I thought we should get rid of the points system - I like that as it is. I was only talking about the game scores - so, if we give a bonus point for highest team score, it is more of a team effort, and heavily encourages everyone to submit a game. And, as I said, everyone's score would count toward that team score, and no one's score would have to be dropped. I think that clarifies what I meant. <br

Here's a slightly different take on team scores and nonsubmittals. If the team score for the round were the average of all members' scores rather than the sum, we would no longer have to drop anyone's score, and the penalty for not submitting a game would be inherent in the system. FTR, I do think there should be some penalty for not even bothering to submit a game, it's one of the worst things you can do to your teammates. With an average score (sum of all player

I would hazard to guess that the biggest reason that cloaking/sensor-fooling techs have not been considered for the game is the complexity it would add to the AI routines. The AIs have a difficult enough time dealing with visible enemy ships - such a hard time that this was the reason given for the extreme engine tech nerfing that happened with DA. Now imagine trying to introduce new code to the AI to allow it to deal with the possibility of cloaked enemy ships, to effectively de
