The issue is most new games use MS DirectX. And MS updates that software constantly to make it work more efficiently. Software devs make use of the new DirectX API's as they alow them to write better and more efficient code. DirectX is required so Devs don't have to take so many hardware confgurations into consideration. DirectX does it for them. This is the ONLY way modern PC games can be written at all. And the Video card companies must upda

I'll give you that point SS. But for the majrity of maps it is useless. I'd rather see it come early enough in the tree to have an effect or to have recurring anomolies. Maybe a tweak would perhaps be building it will make anomolies regenerate at random times only in the builder's Sphere of Influence. They will not regenerate otherwise. This gives you some advantage, but the aI will also have a chance at the anomolies. That at lea

Yeah, don't listen to us Fanbois. Spend a few hours reading the bug report forums here. Go ahead, I dare you. And you will come to find out that the majoriy are people with old driver issues, don't have the right size page file, are trying to run the game in 16 bit, are running at resoulutions that their card or monitor don't support, etc. Most have been helped. A few still have issues, but then again there will always be a

To be clear, Is that Beta 3A? .015 at the end of the build number. Can you post a debug.err log? You should also download SmartException software in the Misc section on Star Dock Central and run it before starting the game. It will record stuff that you can email to SD bug support.

Right On OP! I'd just like to add I put my annoyances with this undescribable game in this thread the other day https://forums.galciv2.com/index.aspx?ForumID=346&AID=112097#862108 Take that SD!

1 Depends on how powerful the attacker is and how you have placed defensive/offensive modules. 2 No 3 Enough to defend it against the current technology level of your opponents if you think it will be a target. At least put on the basic Attack module so you can put on defensive stuff. Even if the mod is not effective against one type of weapon, it will still add at least 1 to the defensive roll total. (Actually it adds the

Just attack them. There is no way to declare war otherwise (this is against anyone, not just allies). Alliances don't prevent you from attacking your partner any time you want to. Allainces are more for getting a diplo victory or better trading/diplo bargains however; that said there is a UP resolution that lets you get the benefits of your partners starbases if you are lucky enough to get it. The Ai really doesn't care if

The Guide Book wonder does come too late to be of much use. I don't waste a plnet square on it. If anomolies regenerated then it wold be a different story. (Kinda reminds me of Explorers in Civ3. The tech came so late that they were pretty much useless except for destroying improvements.) I build several early fast survey ships using cargo hulls once I get the sensor tech, so putting survey mods on my ships is not needed. I f

The game works. Don't know what planet you are living on. Drenga perhaps? Give me a break, the save/reload thing is a deal killer? Sounds more like something you found that you could pick on by reading the forums. Perhaps if you gave specifics, posted a debug.err log, instead of just broadly referring to 'bugs', in a version that was released months ago, I might take your post seriously, rather than the work of an, 'ahem' , troll.

Download and use the Galactopedia. https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=162&AID=105605#851532 The info is also in the games XML files: \GalCiv2\Data\English\TechTree.xml Also try the Wiki. There was also a user who posted a user made Tech tree with base costs. It's here somewhere, sorry I don't have the link handy. Note that in each of the beta's, SD is still playing with the tech costs to try and get a be

Still no debug.err log from the OP. Hmmmmm. A LOT of bugs? Hardly. At least not of a serious nature. I have been playing this game since 1.0D, and I have yet to find a bug serious enough to be a deal killer. Yes, there are glitchs, but if you take proper care, have the latest drivers, set your viddoe resolution properly, there have been very few game crashing bugs reported. If you read the manual, watch the tutor

Using a lot of custom ship files slows saves/loading down considerably in my experience. I have never had any issues with autosave though. @Magc8Ball Post a debug.err log from the main game folder if you can.

Norton is a huge resource boondoogle since Symantic took it over. As an IT Consultant I always make a recommendation to my clients to get rid of it. Especially on machines with not a lot of uumph. I'd recommend NOD32 as the best, but not so user friendly; Trend Micro if you want a user friendly but adequate AV solution. Anything but Norton.

Originally the game was going to have monthly turns. but they decided to make it weeks instead. They just haven't had time to clean up all the text refs to months. I'm sure once things slow down they will get to it.

Did you save the game after making the new ship? Did youuse a new name for the upgraded ship? If so, you cold have issues. Since the save games contain the ship models, as well as the ships in the ship folder, it may be confused. Try saving and restarting the game to see if that helps. It would be helpful to see your debug.err log too. I don't recall having this issue. But there may be a problem recalculating the range. BTW

You are running at a resolution your Monitor does not support. Current Display Mode: 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor Name: Plug and Play Monitor Monitor Max Resolution: 1600,1200 Try changing your system resolution to one that can be supported by the monitor to see if that
