The frame rate throttle keeps newer cards from overheating - it has nothing to do with rendering. You should not mess with it if you have a newer card. The game software cannot 'do something' to the actual driver software files. They may not play together well, but that is different. ATI Display Settings could be changed, but you should be able to check on that in the ATI Control Center before and after. You may have to change things lik

You can select that option in the Main Menu Video options by unchecking Run in full screen. Or you can manually edit the prefs.ini in the \My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 folder. [Video] DisplayWidth=1152 DisplayHeight=864 ColorDepth=32 Fullscreen=0 Change Fullscreen=1 to Fullscreen=0

If I may respectfully ask, Isn't this a duplicate topic? The first will eventually appear where you wanted it too BTW. The forum software is just a bit slow putting things in the sub forums at times. Have patience. And the devs don't reply to all topics - but I'm sure that they see them. If you have a direct question, you can usually get someone on the Chat room in SDC during business hours during the week and talk real time with them to get it

I make an early survey ship using the cargo hull. Put on lots of engines, one survey component and at least one regular sensor. Works very well. (Before I research sensors I just put on several regular sensor components. Get a fast scout ship with lots of range - speed 6, sensor range 5-7 depending on how much life support I put on it, and it is cheap.) Only 1 Hp - usually the AI leaves then alone as in the first few years they are stil expanding and consolidating. I make at le

There is an option to keep the components in the Main Menu Options area. Just check it. I think there are some issues with upgrading Core designs in the beta3 release - this is rthe first release you can do that so I'm sure they will get the bugs worked out. That is what the beta is for. You can download user designs in the Library and at a lot of fan sites that are pre-made. I just posted a ship pack for the Terran Fleet - 19

He did that on purpose to draw attention to the scoring sytem and how it was broken. He explains it in a thread here, I beleive in the metaverse forum. Basically his 4 year old sat and hit end turn all day for weeks. SD finally took notice after he did this and will fix the system with the next released build.

@ Kalin - this I understand for the racially specific special projects that each race can build one of. I have heard of that one - and seen it myself. But has this also applied to Galactic Wonders too that can only be built once by only one race in past builds?

In builds before 1.1beta v3 I don't think you can upgrade Core Designs. You are supposed to be able to do it in V3 but I think it is broken in some way. I have not tried it yet. There is an option in the Main Menu under Interface tab, to allow you to either keep all components when upgrading designs, or strip them away. You choice and it can be changed while the game is in progress, depending on what you want to do. Very flexible. Upgrading ships is broken

These are two separate issues - the op's issue is caused because the beta3 sometimes requires a system reboot. Happened to me. Not sure what Psio's real issue is. Probably should try to keep the thread on topic, and let the OP respond. It may be confusing otherwise. Respectfully, Col. O. S.S. Statesman Forum Nazi

@Mikeswi He did answer your question - He told you the Dread Lords can see everything. He should know. He coded the AI. He wrote the game. He owns the company. He is the Big Cheese. He is THE MAN at Stardock. Frogboy is Brad Wardell.

@Lob1 You still have very old video drivers. There were ATI drivers released last month. Not sure what you are doing there. Not trying to be rude or mean, this is meant in a helpful way - If you are not so computer savvy, maybe you should try and get a friend to help out...you are obviously not installing the new drivers correctly. Good Luck!

@OP For some reason Beta 3 requires a reboot after the install. Try that and see if it helps. @ PSIO- this issue is with the newest beta patch. It's just an installation bug with this patch version. Doubt if yours is the same thing if you have been haviong it for weeks. Sincerely, Col. O. S.S. Statesman Forum Nazi </

The other video options are in the Advanced section under the Main Menu. Your card cannot handle things as they stand. Try to get the latest drivers, but you are using a card that shares system memory - instead on having it's own onborard; so I doubt this will help much with performance. That card is a real bottleneck. You need a modern video card that has it's own onboard memory instead of using the System memory. I

No, Galciv does not cause it to overheat if the fan is not working. The fact that fan is not working causes the card to overheat. And for that you have slimed a good company. Something that was wrong that had nothing to do with the game. I think some would have also posted an apology. But then I consider the source.
