I don't know what I am doing wrong. This ^%*(# game is killing me. I played for 14 hours straight last night, and could not get one single crash. Or glitch. I am sooooo po'ed right now. All that time wasted having fun. I read about about the 2.5% of users that have issues - and I just don' understand why I can't be in that minority. I paid good money for a game that really works. I have ha

Patience - Wait until the fleet is created. Before trying to do anything else. By clcking on the minimap before the fleet is fully created you are pulling the focus off it.
Would really help to see the dxdiag part of the debug log. @Alphonse - that is a new one on me - do you have any links with more info so I can read up on it? I am an IT pro and knowing how to resolve that issue - or even how to spot it - would be a good thing to have in my personal KB. Thanks!

@quinff Yeah, I've been here all day - can't really get into the game full tilt as I am also working from home online on an XP migration project for a client - So I've been hammering the boards all day between work chores. Usually I am less cranky - I actually like to help out - IT is in my blood - and I usually ignore the attitudes if they post a debug log - but this time I just didn't feel like it.
This has been reported by others - a crash in 1.1Bv3 when you try to build too many starbases in a sector.
Ok, thought you may be referring to 'creative' editing of a debug .err log. I would hate to think people do that - we all voluntarily come here to try and help - if I do find out some are doing that it would really make me mad....I'm not saying the op is doing that; even though they do have a real bad way of asking for help. I'd also agree with your diagnosis - I could have posted the same thing hours ago, but just didn't feel like it for some rea
Nothing personal, that is not a really optimal config for 2006. It does meet minumum, but don't expect miracles. I'd expect it to be slow above medium maps with lots of opponents and stars. You can change the video options in the Main Menu. It actually has quite a few options compared to a lot of games. Just don't uncheck Throttle frame rate - this will casue your video card to overheat; it does not affect the rendering speed. <b
What are you trying to say Quinff?
John Glenn has to be launched into Orbit first.
The game seems plenty stable to me. The beta versions are not - but they are beta versions. Anfd I am a big fan - but I will criticize when it is deserved - loudly and longly - but not before I can verify that I am indeed having an issue and not just misunderstanding how the game works. Of coarse CG2 has bugs. I will agree this ship naming thing is a bug.. but it is a known bug - It is something that the code does not handle we
Very interesting read. It's amazing what you find out about end users and how they behave. It's funny, it's never the customers fault. I am an IT consultant by profession, and when I used to do home pc work - it was a nightmare. They would tell me they never had a virus or downloaded spyware - or used PTP torrent sharing - --- until I opened up the logs or internet history or quarentine folders to see. Then complain when I charged
Doubt it is a memory leak - that is when a program grabs memory and never releases it - eventually it uses up all free memory and crashes. Do you have CPU throttling checked in the Game options menu? Just curious. Have you actually checked your system temps? Try speedfan - it's a free program that can help. Even though you added a fan, did you remove your CPU heatsink, clean it, and put on fresh silicon paste? After a few year
Are you giving your custom race a huge miniaturization bonus? That will do it...
Nope, can't reproduce that in my game. Are you doing anything else?
I'd help but I really don't feel like helping folks with bad attitudes from the start anymore, even though I see a possible error and fix. I'll leave that to others with more diplomatic skills.
Nice work - you should submit it to the library here too!
It's in the prefs.ini file in your \My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 folder. Open the file in notepad, and change the following lines to what you want: [Video] DisplayWidth=1152 DisplayHeight=864 ColorDepth=32 Fullscreen=0 First two are self explanatory. Colordepth HAS to be 32. Anything less does not work. If you want to start in full screen, set this to 1. Otherwise set it to 0 for windows mode. If yo
My first came UPS - the second Fed-EX. I did not ask for extra padding - and the UPS person kinda smashed the box a little bit, even though it was wrapped in bubble wrap - looks like they set a refrigerator on it. Not SD 's fault at all. Otherwise no problem.
It is very hard to read a post that is using colored fonts on the forum. Can you repost this using the regular color (white?) Thanks! Also, remove your email - that is not smart to publish it on a public forum!
A lot of software has issues dealing with dual processor machines. They are definately not the norm - mainstream desktop software is not really designed or coded with these beasts in mind. Same goes for 64 bit boards right now - until they are the mainstream, those who use them should expect glitches now and then. In a few years this will change - Vista will see to that. Start saving up now; you will have to upgrade hardware to get the f
@clciks - U R Welcome! You can select to have the ship keep all it's stuff when you upgrade in v1.1. There is an option in the Main Menu/Interface options window to do this. Add the component you want; Save it with a different name; Then you can go to the game, click on a ship you want ot upgrade; select the check box to upgrade all ships of the same class at once. This is expensive, and you must be careful as far away ships take we
I think the problem with minors is that no matter what their intelligence, it's hard to survive when they are thrown naked into a den of hungry lions. Yes, they have techs, but not much else. If they were spawned with a full technologically advanced fleet, a fully equipped and populated world, and perhaps a starbase or two then they may have a chance. In my example, I really did not give them a lot of stuff. I gave then 4 fairly poor defensive ships, 2 empty colony sh
They are working on making modding much easier - don't know if it will be with the 1.1 version due out next week or the 1.2 version in the future (probably in May). Frogboy was going to publish a complete alternative universe mod to show how it is done in conjunction with the release of 1.1v3, but I'm not sure if he will now or wait until the modding part of the game is optimized and released wit hte next patch after 1.1.
