So da_zman20, I take it BootXP is working ok for you?

I rather doubt users pay much attention to the ratings. The pic is what's predominant. Either they like a skin well enough from how it looks to download it or they don't. I've seen skins I like with thousands of downloads, maybe a couple ratings (not necessarily spectacular) and few or no comments. So I don't think ratings deter someone from trying out a skin if they like the way it looks. (The only exception of course is if the rating is so low visitors can't see it, which I
ooh, thanks for the link Boxxi. I've only just gotten into trying DX. Cool!
Oh by the way, thanks BoXXi for the tip to the app! (Also, the screenshots are great, especially the second one. Wow! )
The download link worked for me. Snarph, do you mean the website link or the app download link? If the app download link, try right clicking and save as or save target.
That link is turning up 404 for me at the moment.
Actually knatzz I think that's why some skinners don't regard the ratings. They're not particularly helpful. More often I see skinners look forward to people providing helpful comments saying what is that either is particularly remarkable or pleasing or if there are glitches or problems with a skin or if perhaps something might be reworked to a better effect. But that requires more effort on the poster's part. Or in my case, knowledge. If there's a glitch I can't suggest how to fix it. But I've
If you're on W98, with an XP supporting skin the taskbar and of course start menu won't look the same. I haven't noticed that the taskbar only changes to the colors you mention, but I know it won't look the same as in XP. You would need the ObjectBar app and set it to use the XP style of the WindowBlind you're using to get it to look as it was intended. Hope that's what you were asking about. Scrollbars: I use WB 3.5 on my work Win98 pc and (depending on the skins perhaps) I have skin
Knatzz: yes, there have been "this sucks" comments and worse on some skins. Really outrageous and profane comments can be reported to the moderators and deleted and have been. It may not be that common but it does happen on occasion.
They added turquoise to your green? Get them for ripping and poor color sense. Ick.
This is a difficult subject. To some ratings are important, if for no other reason that it effects what visitors see, so I try to rate the ones I download. There are some stunning skins which I wind up not using very much because they are not (for my eyes or because I find them distracting) to me for eveyday use. I wouldn't rate them less for that. Similarly there are some more subtle skins that while not flashy or intricate I really enjoy and use frequently. And appreciate more as I use them. O
From what I've read, bubba2 is right about preSP1 boot screens. SP1 which made changes to the ntoskrnl.exe. That's why if I decide to muck about with the bootscreen it'd be with a program like BootXP which is supposed to convert them to be compatible with SP1. Although he's also right about not needing to change the bootscreen at all which is the safest of all.
FWIW BootXP is said to be able to convert the pre XP SP1 bootscreens to work with SP1.
After renaming the file to zip, did you unzip the file? And the resulting logonxp file didn't work?
It can be done manually as well. Various tweak sites, etc have instructions. But has anyone here tried BootXP? Just wondering. It says it's safe as it makes a backup of the original file, but still I'm wary of mucking about with it.
It is quite possible if you have logonstudio. Look at the top of the logon library page there's an about section with links to logonstudio info & download: https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=26
Sorry, Lady Wolf, obviously my reading skills aren't working today. I'm an echo.
The comment section of the skin has a link to here for the wall: http://home.insightbb.com/~pas/BigSmile.jpg
Have you used the "restore the default windows logon" button? That should turn off logonstudio. If that works and restores the regular windows default logon (and make sure it does with a reboot), you should be able to pick another screen from the logonstudio list. See if that works.
Email them back and ask for an explanation. If you're not using anyone else's graphics, is it that it was "inspired" by another work? And perhaps they're requiring permission for that? I don't know if that's the deal or not but it may be?
Troya: I don't want to be too cranky but I do agree that timely support for a paid product should be available. I'm not waiting for new additions to the suite, just some feedback from Stardock regarding an apparent issue that some others also have had with the DX portion of the suite.
From the PixOS suite. The suite is available for purchase at the pixstudio site.
Well a word or two from someone about issues or fixes would be nice. I emailed Stardock a couple days ago about a DX problem (it's not working after I installed Toons) and am waiting for some feedback. Oh well....
BTW, I'm gonna patent the Avocado. All your guacamole belong to me.
Hmn. FWIW IIRC MS has stock in Apple, so one can contribute to Bill by being a Mac person too. Apple shot itself in the foot marketwise in terms of OS competitiveness years ago by not allowing cloning of its hardware and/or offering their own at competitive prices. (Although for some reaon I think I recall they may have tried for a short time to allow one company to clone, but that was a bust. Can'
