OK, then. At least it's not just me. I tried to download updates via CM this morning and wow my cable connection seemed to turn into a dial up (well actually slower than my dialup). Everything else was speedy except for that, so I wondered if SD's servers were getting hammered or what.

FWIW I rather like Jobeleca's suggestions. (Granted streamlining the webpages doesn't address the download issue, but it would make for faster page loading and browsing.) I rather like the "one stop shopping" aspect of WC...skinners can have skins and matching walls here (and skins for other apps) or people can find walls to as they say, "customize" their desktop. At least requiring a site registration (which costs nothing) shouldn't be a problem, should it? And perhaps restricting the

From the announcement of the 3.49 beta in the WB development newsgroup: 3.49 ---- -Includes SkinCast support for previewing, downloading, and installing the latest featured WB skin from WinCustomize.com. See Display Properties / Appearance (or Skins) to make use of this. -Includes trackbar (slider) support for themeaware apps on Windows XP. This support has not been added elsewhere in this build. -See https://www.stardock.com/temp/trackbar_sample.zip<

Ah yes, I forgot about the auto upload permission some users have, based on the honor system. Well this skin didn't seem to get a lot of public *cough* exposure here so I guess it slipped notice until now. Pity, though, Baker's comment is gone along with the skin. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" borde

Bakerstreet: you were way too kind. Didn't realize there was a buttfloss section here. (I don't get out much.) So who moderates what for what here? (Presumably if it was a wall it might not have made it on this "best of the best" site.) Sorry, still laughing.... <A HREF="https://www.wincustomize.com/

I had that problem with a previous poll. I fixed it by logging out, deleting WC cookies, clearing browser cache and logging in again. (Other bits of the site were wonky for me too...couldn't change the website theme either so the cookie "cure" fixed that as well.)

Has anyone tried logging out, deleting WC cookies (there are at least two IIRC), clearing the browser cache (TIF), closing the browser, reopening and logging in again? It's certainly worth a try. Once I couldn't access the site at all. Did the deal above and voila, it worked. If that doesn't work, then email the WC site admin/support and they can look up your info and see what's up.

Yeah, Koasati, I'd considered that maybe some of these people who mentioned cross-referencing were either confused or just BSing. Given the skin selection here, as a registered OD user I wouldn't leave in a huff if I were having problems. I'd try to solve them. Hence, my "discovery" of deleting all WC cookies when I could not access the site at all. <A HREF="https://www.wincustomize.com/

He mentioned cross-referencing accounts (presumably SD and WC) so perhaps he is a registered SD user? Other people have mentioned the same problem even after they cross-referenced their accts. I previously suggested deleting WC cookies to one poster see if that would help, but I don't think anyone came back to say they did that and if it helped one way or another. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.g

The advisor was a PR person? Well I'm sure she didn't say anything that Americans haven't said at one time or another about their Presidents (take your pick). Although when the press is around, politicians (especially a PR advisor) should by now realize that anything said or overheard is press fodder. She shoulda said "What a maroon." <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/lol.gif" border=0 ALIGN

Alexander Drenker has a Hal 9000 logon here, that much I know. I think I also remember a Hal wall by someone, but I can't remember who....

I think there's a site bug or something since yesterday and today I've had problems here: search turning up no results for skins I know are here and also not being able to get preview images of featured skins. I thought perhaps my cookies were wonky again or something, but since you all seem to be having the same problems....

Of course, it depends what apps you use and what you do on your PC. And typically W98 users are running them on older machines. For people running programs that are using the latest DirectX, etc and require new hardware and drivers, the older PC's and OS's won't cut it. But not everyone has those requirements. Basic mainstream apps such as AV's, for example, don't require driver upgrades, etc. So in those areas there will be vendors that will have apps supporting W98 as long as a profi

Object Dock is free and was created long ago as more of a POC app, according to SD/FB. Not in the same class as WindowBlinds. WB is perhaps SD's bread and butter app (as a stand alone app, that is) and SD has already indicated that SB 4 supports W98. Bit tkn u fpr yre onwalubul npt.

Just a thought. I've on occasion had some problems with the site, although not that one. So far my problems have been fixed if I log off and then delete the WC cookies, close browser and then reopen and go back and log on. This may not have anything to do with your issue, but it's worth a shot.
