Why feel dumb? Nothing wrong about asking basic questions. Not only that, there are probably lurkers out there who didn't ask the question and are going, "Oh, ok. Now I get it." because you did ask. (I still gotta check out this pushpin thing meself. ; )

I'm not at all affiliated with the 98Lite (now litePC) folks. But they do have products for those wanting to unBorg some of the MSBorg aspects of their OS. Some people swear by 98Lite. Now they're working on a similar product for W2K and XP (you know, achieving what MS told the judge simply could not be done.) This isn't for everyone, but it's good to have options for those who want them. <A HREF
Explore: Well you did say, "forcing people to buy a new copy of Office..." That has Outlook (not OE). Hence my response re: Office. Re: AV: Of course AV's are reactive when you rely on AV sigs developed after somethings ITW. That's why safe computing practices and an AV with good heuristics help. But that's really not just an XP thing although you act as if it is. And how many people with W9X are walloped with this stuff due to them not taking the most basic precautions? He
Well ya know that froggy guy might actually know a little something about these appliances (just throwing it out there) and I hear he has some programming, developing experience as well. (But you know how these geek guys like to brag.) I hear these oldtimers going on about that OS/2...whassup wit dat? <img src="http://i
Oh, exploreRPG, what about the NTSF vs Fat32 file system issue? That's one of the NT things that has some merit, it seems.
ExploreRPG!: patience, Grasshopper : http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html
Swin: actually OD does work, really, even on older machines and W98 and I think W95 according to reports. But what's the condition of your PC and OS to begin with? Got enough memory? How many programs do you have running on start up? Need all of them? Any spyware you aren't aware of running on your machine eating up resources? Run SpyBot Search and Destroy to find out. It's free. exploreRPG: I rece
Are you running a registered version of Windowblinds or the shareware version? I know the shareware version doesn't skin everything, but I don't know if that's what you're describing or if something else is going on.
I think the push pin locks the window in place?
ooh, I like that one too.
D'oh! Yeah, I figured I got it wrong when I realized you didn't mention a big honkin' planet rising in the middle of the scene. The one I was thinking of is Tropic Moon of Thetis. http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/dbgallery/p1.shtml <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0
Oh, well let me put it this way, the skin I'm thinking of shows a beach and palm trees, but there's this huge ringed planet in the sky.... perhaps that's not the one you had in mind?
Ah, it's shown in Klatuu's Glass Factory skin and is from the digitalblasphemy.com site. (I've still got a few grey cells left apparently...thought it was lint. lol.)
I think I know which one you mean. If I do, the wall was shown on a WB skin preview but I think the actual wall was from another site and the skinner linked to it. Off the top of my head without looking, I think it may have been one of Klatuu Berada's skins (Glassy??) that had a link to the wall. Do a search for Klatuu's WindowBlinds skins and see if my memory is correct. If it is you should find a link to the wall there. <A HREF="https://www.wincustomize.com/index.asp?Cmd=full&NewsID
I'm still laughing. <img src="http://images.stardoc
Evidently Mr Sproat is back in the OvaKill comments section and has taken exception to Jafo's comments. Perhaps Jafo could take a look? That skin's comment section could do with a bit of a clean up. <img src="http://images.stardock.co
Well done, Kaltuu and Jafo.
.wba is a windowblinds file which works only with the windowblinds program. So the first question, if you're having problems, is do you have the windowblinds program installed on your PC?
At the moment I happen to be using Judge's OSXP NG Winderblind. It's got stripes and squeaks when I minimize a window. Gotta like a gui that squeaks. /me wonders why my XP didn't come with an innertube like Jam's... All I got is these balloon thingies... (one of those technical terms I learned here) <img s
I've always found being cranky to people who respond trying to help really goes a long way to getting what you want. And not reading help files or any FAQ's is another way to rapidly learn a new program. Then although the vendor may have product support newsgroups (usually linked to on the vendor's site) I'll never look at them before or when tryng a product to see what problems people may have or what tips may be helpful to know. I'll just post at a discussion board which is not the vendor's pr
bmetelsky: You might also want to try SpyBot Search & Destroy...it's relatively new freeware and has apparently rapidly surpassed Adaware in capabilities.
That's your choice, Jam. I don't use adware either but some people evidently don't mind it and that's their choice and it's their PC. The key for me is "informed consent" and whether the user has the information and opportunity to make that choice for himself.
Hiya Frogboy. Yup it is amazing. I finally (now that SP1 is out) bought a new P4 2Ghz PC with 512 Ram with XP to replace my PII 350 with W98. Still, this new PC cost much less than the PII did 4 years ago. As an aside, while I was really happy with what WindowBlinds, etc did for my old W98 PC (with its hardwa
When you log off it's fine? Delete your WC cookies, clear cache (TIF) and try again and see if that makes any difference. (The famed "delete WC cookies" cure.)
In many, if not most cases, there are freeware programs without spyware that are available that can be used instead of programs that are in league with advertisers and use trackers. So the "how they keep programs free" is a rationale used for the public, IMO. They want to make money and spyware is how they do it. There's also a difference between adware and spyware. For example, the free version of Opera has ads. You can read their privacy statement. Ads are displayed but it isn't spywa
