This thread has been dead for a bit, but I kind of want to revisit it. Playing through the Beta of TA, I have to say: With all the new improvements to the game, the UP part stands out even more now as being sub-par. Really, it has begun to feel slapped on and not complete. When you join the UP, there is always this feeling of being one of the minor races. You can't propose any thing to be voted on, nor even know what the issues are until you show up. I mean, do you think that wor

Sorry if this bug has already been reported. I didn't see it when I did a search, but I could have missed it. Very minor bug. I have notice that some race portraits stretch when displayed in game. Kind of like a full screen broadcast on a wide screen TV. Anyone else notice this? ------------------ System Information ------------------ Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) Language: En
See, I'm having an issue that is none of the above, but similar. (I found this thread by searching for my bug.) I've played three games in a row where this happened (2 betas, and then the release version last night.) I'll have one planet in a given game where I'll jump in system, and nothing I do will keep the ships there. If I leave them unattended, they start drifting to the next planet. I don't mean "edge of the gravity well reset" drift...I mean, full-on, down the jump lane tow
(I still refuse to credit most of them with better resolution than an HD monitor unless you can show me some hard numbers)
The hard numbers are out there. Check the stuff that people said above, or do a quick Google search on something like "HDTV vs Monitor." Resolution on monitors has been "HD" for a long time. As someone pointed out in an article I read awhile ago, Doom was in high definition, technically.
I just have some bad blood from back when
eSphinx:
Good question! Yes, you can do that! If all research is done you could basically scuttle all 16 research stations you probably have at that point and gain some valuable resources.
I was just thinking about this last night. I'm almost at the end of the tech tree and figured, "Why not just scuttle them and put some trade ports in instead?" kryo:
the labs have to be kept if you're to build any units or structures you researched. No labs
I did play the first mission in Galciv2 campaign, but right when I see my research is reset at the second map, I said "hehe, no way I'm playing this campaign".
That one hit me as well. It was like, "What, they moved to a different chunk of the universe and just forgot?"
i say campaign should be... glitchs or multiplayer exploits occur.
That post made my punctuation hurt. ;)
Okay, I'm a little late to the party here, but let me through in my two credits: Initially, I was all for a campaign, and do kinda miss the fact that it's not there. But as i also mentioned in a post yesterday, no matter how much I find it lacking in this game, the fact remains that I never played through the GalCiv ones. I also barely touch the Civ ones. C&C and AoE, I play through once and that's it for the most part. The more I think about it, the less I think that would buy
campaign would be nice i guess. but i don't miss it one iota. galciv2, civ4 etc may have some small campaign type modes (i don't even remember) but i never tried em anway. i always go with the random world mode.
That's the funniest thing to me...I don't bother with the campaign in GalCiv. I stick to the sandbox and love it. The campaigns aren't that interesting to me...but this game? It screams "STORY!" to me, and I'm itching for one. I'll sandbox it ha
Actually, it was known for quite a while that download users (which is still CE) will get the PDFs and music in downloadable format. I'd say probably a week ahead of the release date Frogboy posted that bit of news.
That doesn't change anything about the response someone who contacts sales with a question gets. :)
All download orders will get downlodable versions of the CE goodies automatically at no extra cost. They should be up for download sometime today.
Kryo....you might want to have the sales folk make that a bit more clear. It was implied in their email to me that the only way to get the additional content was to buy the CD and pay for it and the (insane) shipping charges...basically, if you pre-ordered the ESD version, you're SOL. Wish I had read this before
It's the definition of "small" that concerns me. Oh well...early adopters should expect things like this.
Wow...just, wow. I hadn't realized that this was an official modifier. It was extreme and at such a low level of money that I had assumed that it was a bug that would be worked out. Yeah, I'm not a fan. It really penalizes "turtlers" when they play.
Son of a... The one time I don't order a CD copy of something... I can't for the life of me remember why. The only thing that I can think of is that there wasn't a CD version available for pre-order at the time.
Beta 3a is available now and that has been fixed.
Sweeeeeeeeet...Now I can go blow up the Drengin home world as planned.
All of these great descriptions that we're getting for the revamped races make me wonder: Are we going to get these in game and/or a summery (I.e. This race get +________ research and - _______ military, etc) like you can get in games like Civ IV?
Take your time, do it right.
I'm unable to comment on this at the present time. *Raise eyebrow, touches nose* Say no more, say no more.
I thought the Dread Lords get a planet, like any other race. Conquer that and they won't be able to build any new ships.
Yep, that's what I do. Find the planet, hit it with everything you got and be done with them.
They're at least [your ability x2] in general.
Which is why it really sucks when it happens late in the game. I agree that the pirates are scarier than the Dread Lords.
I found this topic in another forum for Space Rangers 2. It says that there is a new add-on that is out in Russia and is currently being translated to English. A.) Is there any truth to this rumor and B.) Is TGN going to carry it when it comes out? (pleasepleasepleaseplease)
Oh (insert chosen deity here) i must grow up!
Heh. Insert. (Okay, I'm done now.)
Indeed it looks like it will become one of our 'firm' favorites
Thanks for sticking up for my comment.
Mwhahahaha
Yeah, way to "ram it home"...
Since the tiny has no weapons or defenses, it is the last ship targeted
I've always kinda wished that there was a random targeting scheme. As it stands now (at least before TA - not sure with this version) there's one ship that's always taking the beating until it is destroyed. The only way not to have it attacked is to take it out of the fleet. But, with your find above, it now makes for a neat loop-hole.
What is supposed to be in Beta 4? Is that supposed to be, more or less, the whole she-bang? Final testing all game features?
