poor ol' evil needs help. since 1.62b, i can't update on SDC - can anyone tell me how to go about getting updates I did a manual install when I wasn't asked to update. Try doing that. Open SDC, go to games, expand GalCiv 2, and select each component you wish to update. Seems to work for me. It shows beta 4 when I'm in the main screen before you start or load a game. ________________ I hope this helps you both: Evil Roy, and geminis

+ NEW: Added Starbase module to repair the starbase with Tech Requirement Advanced Hulls. Will only show up if the starbase is missing HP, and can be 'installed' multiple times. This module should not count towards the total modules. WHAT????!!!! You guys are actually paying attention to starbases now? Maybe nerfed starbases could be a thing in the past. Yay!! (insert sound effect of a bunch of little kids shouting in joy) Anyhow, I h

I've played Civ 2 to 4, and I wasn't very impressed with Civ 4. Its seems to be far too complex. Not only that, but the civopedia in Civ 3 was much easier to navigate, and easier to find information. I can list other reasons, but I have better things to do than to remember a game I didn't like.

I did exactly that. But I can't give a simple AND correct answer... Err... never mind. Thanks for clearing that out. Apparently the Super Breeder is close to announced 400% bonus, but works also above 1B pop. If I recall correctly, I saw something saying that they would get 4x population growth. I never saw anything saying a +400% bonus. Anyhow, the more that I think about the 2 bil populat

This is one of those bugs that I can't understand why is still around. The changes log for the latest patch doesn't mention fixing it. It was fixed in an earlier patch, if I recall correctly. 2) The planet improvement potentials of SOME home system minor planets is clearly unique, since it is not always the same for planets of the same PQ (see Mars vs Kona vs Iconia V). I was aware of this fact, but I

Thanks for the reply Iztok. Sorry that I didn't get back right away, but I spent some time trying to rephase my reply so it didn't appear to be so rude. Its tough to both study philosophy and to not be overly critical at the same time. ________________ I had a testbed planet... Blah... Blah... Blah... BR, Iztok Thanks for the effort, but you provided an overly complicated answer to a simple question. Either a simple "Yes

Actually, not so. In DA, you can choose any adjacent square to be the launch square for a planet, on a per planet basis. You can even change launch directions several times within one turn. This tactic has many uses. Really?! How do you do this? Select a planet. In the interface where the ships are shown when in orbit around your planet, there should be some writing saying "ships in orbit". Just to the left, as in right next to the text, there s

Since the arrival of the expansion "Dark Avatar", we've been given several new things to improve the rate populations grow. We have two techs that each provide +10% polution growth, we have the planet structure "fertility clinics", and the Torians have the "super breeder" super ability. The question I have is, is there a limit to how much your polulation may grow in a single turn? Is 12 fertility clinics going to have your population skyrocket, or is it a waste after, lets say, the 3rd

The rotation is hard-coded, unfortunately. I noticed. The dxpacks shows up as gibberish when I try to open them up in notepad. Also, all the mods I looked at that modded the user interface didn't provide much insight in the matter. The no glare minimap mod is an .exe file that replaces the existing dxpack, and the Dread Lords example mod used dxpacks that were also gibberish. If I have time, I might be able to put in l

Question: I don't like looking at my mini-map at a tilted angle. Do you think you can have it displayed at a none tilted angle? Umm, you might be able to do it with a mod but I'm not sure if it's hardcoded to be at that angle or not. I haven't changed any of the math behind the minimap, just the drawing code. I'll have to check. Thanks for the reply. I'll see if I can mod the user interface. By the

The next part. ________________ What can I do to make both my custom race, and my custom opponents more competitive against these advantages, especially on higher difficult levels? Some people say that the the custom races are the strongest. You can't get a maxed out PQ bonus with a speed bonus with the normal races, or vice versa. That and some other powerful possible combinations are only possible with the custom races. What you

I know I'm probably not the first person to notice this, but some of the default races have INSANE racial abilities. You're not the first to notice. Being able to get Economics +60% as the Altarians, 80% with the Federalists, They can get up to 125% economics with the right techs, and forms of government. Don't get me started on morale and research for them. What's odd

It takes time to get into and is EXTREMELY complicated to learn...masive learning curve for mastering that game much more so then any other mmo . I got a grasp of most of the game mechanics within the 14 day trial (those features I was able to play with that is). I felt that I learned the game quite fast, and thus I felt that I should play since I was able to learn quickly. The question is, is it unusual to learn most of the game in about 14 days

How about... no. I find that the AI does a lowsy job of building starbases, and I think it would be a waste of time trying to capture them. Plus, developing it as a feature would take resources away from developing (or un-nerfing) starbases so that they could defend themselves late in the game.

+100 loyalty merely makes it much more unlikely that your population will flip. It in no ways prevent them from ever flipping. In fact, its possible that they will flip in a single turn despite the bonus to loyalty. Loyalty is one of those abilities that I could care less about having. Its a mistake to conlonize planets that you are unable to keep due to influence. Also, if you are in a war that has resulted in several of your planets being heavily influenced, lets just say you probally

I do believe that the "battle of the gods" scenerio (can't spell today) has every race start out with 30,000 or 300,000 bc (not sure which). Take a look at that file, and you should be able to create custom maps with different amounts of money. As for altering the amount for randomly generated maps, you can't do that to the best of my knowledge. ________________ Edit: I did some checking. You can find the battle of the gods scenario at this location (assuming you installed

I don't see how it would be possible to mod that in. There is no existing code (to the best of my knowledge) that can be modded to add in special effects when moving.

If I build them, will they destroy ones already built? No. is there any rule that you cannot build more than 1 Yes. You can not build more than one capital of any given type. If you capture a capital building, you may not build one if you have not done so. If you are in the middle of building one, you may finish it, thus end up with 2 or more capitals of a given type. ________________<

In the end, I found Eve was almost too realistic, it started feeling like a job, I started feeling like I needed to advance when I just wanted to kick back and relax. This is sort of the reason why I was asking. I feel that I have great potential for this game (already learned most of it in the 14 day trial), but it feels like its going to be too much work for me to enjoy. Perhaps a 3-month subscription would be enough. I am interested in creat

I recently tried a trail version of Eve online, and have been playing for a while. I'm now a bit interested in the game, but I'm not sure if its worth a monthly subscription. It has some features and complexity that I've been looking for in a single player, off-line game, but I've haven't been able to find such games. Before I get off track, is there anyone here who has played Eve online? If so, is Eve worth it? Also are there any games that play like Eve, but is off-line.
