The Yor supposedly have a Loyalty bonus, but I have never had much of a problem flipping their planets. Also, I haven't had any problems the few times I have gone Evil and built the MCC. Apart from that, I would say that whether invasion or conversion is better is a matter of what you are good at and like doing. There are a few too many variables in GCII's space combat for me to enjoy it, and then there is the whole "annihilate and replace the entire planet's population" thing when you

Here's a small suggestion: have a link for the 'manual' on the AltMeta Beta site. Then people that don't know to go looking for it in the Galactic Core forums can still get to it. Other than that, well, I'm leading one of the charts. Bring on the #1 medals! <img src="http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com/ranksig.php?id=7

MrJakJak, the obvious thing you are missing (no offense meant) is that you can join an Empire at any time, simply by clicking on their page in the Metaverse listing, and then clicking the Join button. It's that simple. I'm a member of the B.C. Space Orcas, and we would be glad to have new members ... but I have to say that a lot, perhaps most of our members don't seem to be active anymore, so our Empire is unlikely to make it back to the number one spot. (I should talk. I rarely check t

Ouch. I hope that's not true, or I once I finally get Dark Avatar, I might enjoy it a lot less than I expect to. On the other hand, the higher the difficulty, the harder the AIs seem to go after the weaker players. Hopefully that has more to do with it than just fighting the human player specifically.

I have to quote this section of the article: "Well" she responded, "You didn't actually purchase the files, you really purchased a license to listen to the music, and the license is very specific about how they can be played or listened to." Now I was baffled. "Records never came with any such restrictions," I said. She replied, "Well they were supposed to, but we weren't able to enforce those licenses back then, and now we can" I disagree with Frogboy

PlayJeff45, the stats you are seeing are from the Altmeta, http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com . Assuming you make it into those rankings, on your page will be links so that you can display your Altmeta stats. There is a type of link specifically for this forum.

I always start out intending to win an Influence Victory, which is my favourite type. However, I will abandon, or not even start, that victory path if it seems that it would be a very difficult one. I don't really like military action in this game. There are too many variables for me, so I usually don't try that path. Tech Victory is usually a sign that I could not figure out, or achieve, a higher scoring victory in a particular game. I used to go for Politcal Victories a lot, but they seem impo

That's a little strange, Mumble, telling the guy that the Achievement medals can't actually be achieved. For Bastion EX and anyone else that wants to know, well, check out my medal tally and you will see the first four achievement medals. Achievement #5 is the 100 Games Won medal. The rest to my knowledge have not appeared. I assume they are also Games Won medals. <img src="http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com/

Neilo, you might want to check the debug.err file and see what it says for game mode. If it says Normal, you're out of luck and will never be able to upload the game (unless things have changed recently). This has happened twice to me, including what was at the time my highest scoring game.

Since I have been mentioned in the above discussion, I might as well say that Mumblefratz is right about me at least: I don't contribute to the forums all that often. Most of my involvement with this game is playing it, and submitting the results. I don't have enough interest in the Forums to join in the discussions on a regular basis.

Personally I can't see more than surface similarities between the two games. In fact, GalCivII might benefit a bit from the immersive style of SMAC. In SMAC, while playing the TBS you were also playing out this incredible story of the transition of humanity from mortals to a form of immortality. Also, the AI leaders were really individuals, with their own personalities and ways of acting. GalCiv actually has a strong, interesting backstory, but personally, the campaign just isn't worth playing t

My advice would be, first off, to reduce your settings to Common everything. That should provide enough planets for you to get off to a reasonable start, without there being enough planets for the AI to be able to take off. Also, your best bet is probably to keep reducing the Difficulty Level until you can find one you can beat. Then you can figure out what you are doing before trying to play against AI levels that can challenge experienced players. On the military side of things, there

For anyone else who is interested in the medals and ranks on the Metaverse, the Admiral rank has finally begun to appear. So far I have seen Shaman and SpinDoctor with this rank. It seems to be restricted to characters with more than 75 games submitted, and that have submitted games in 2007. But that's based on just the two characters, which isn't exactly a lot of data to work from. I wish the Character Watchlist did actually list when characters have new games submitted. That would mak

Well, I don't know how or when it happened, but: as I write this, we are back at Empire #1! Thagee, the points are lousy for a Tech Victory. If you look at my record, I usually get from 14,000 to 16,000 for Influence, but I used to get about 8,000 for a Tech Victory. Still, any victory is better points-wise than any defeat.

I have noticed this too, at least on Painful level: the colony ships go directly to a habitable planet, even if I have observed none of their other ships coming within scouting distance. It certainly seems like the AI players know exactly where the good planets are right from the start. On the rush building, in a recent game I saw the Drengin colonise a world, then a colony ship left the new colony a turn or so later. I did not think to check how many people were on the ship.

Well, I rarely do much with the names of my planets, so this may not help. However, I would suggest that instead of giving all planets of a certain type the same name, you leave the planets with some of their original name, and add a descriptor to that. I think that would be easier to remember.

I usually see it when I am researching along the Tech Victory path. Only a few races show it, however. It does also show up sometimes during a push for an Influence Victory. It may have more to do with how many planets of a race are affected by your influence, or whether and how long their capital is affected. Also, if you max out an influence starbase within a few turns, the sudden rise in your influence will tend to aggravate your neighbours. To be honest, apart from Tech Victories, I

I may be flogging a dead horse here, but ... my alignment medal is gone, again. It would appear that my alignment score has returned to some sort of dead zone, apparently in the upper reaches of the Chaotic Good rating, in which for some strange reason no medal is displayed. Is there anyone else who is having a similar problem? Is there anyone who plays a lot of Evil and Neutral games, who has had the same problem? Does anyone know why the Metaverse Manager's displayed alignment and the

This reminds me of my early games on Normal difficulty. This event would keep happening and crippling the Evil races. Stardock's idea of having game shifting events is a good one, but hopefully the execution of it in Dark Avatar will be a bit better than it is in Dread Lords.

It looks like at long, long last I may have broken into the top one hundred. I will have to wait for the next update, but I should be sitting on exactly the one hundred ranked player spot. I have to tell someone about this last game of mine. I decided I wanted a token Pond Scum game, so that the Metaverse calculator would have less trouble evaluating my alignment. The Arceans got into a dominant position quite early, and eventually started to invade everyone else. It wouldn't have been

In case Stardock ever gets around to dealing with this Metaverse bug, my alignment medal returned to the display once I played enough games to earn Very Good status again. However, the Metaverse Manager still displays my alignment as Chaotic Good. It would be nice if the Metaverse Manager and the medal display agreed on my alignment, and if having too many Neutral games didn't make the medal disappear instead of change. I am going to try and win a game as Evil, so that the Metaverse med

I usually play on Tough, and I have found Painful to be considerably more difficult, and in different ways. For one thing, the Yor become absolutely amazing colonisers. It doesn't matter if they are on the other side of the galaxy, they always end up with at least one planet within my territory. If it is any help to you, here is (more or less) my standard starting plan. I put the production slider to 100% and the tax slider to 9%. I leave those there until I get down to about 500 cr, an

Mystikmind, I don't think you are missing anything. The way I look at it, the listing includes all the things the AI is taking into account, but there is no weighting to it so you cannot tell how much each factor really matters. In my last few games, for instance, I have noticed several times that I had six 'plus' factors and one 'minus' factor, and yet the race was cool or worse towards me. In short, the list is a guide, not much more.
