Fair enough. I has assumed that a lot of Stardock people would be going on holiday for a while anyway, so I wasn't expecting a quick fix. "...keep submitting games..." That made me laugh. I'm five games away from getting the 50 games won medal, I have a lot better reason than fixing this little bug to submit games. Plus I got the game in May, and I am still having a lot of fun.

The only situation similar to this one for me would be Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire. When I got Alien Crossfire, I was able to incorporate the new elements into my playing style fairly easily. For a while I played just with the new factions, but I switched to using a combination of the old and new factions, and those were generally the most enjoyable games. Dark Avatar isn't replacing the old races, it is only adding two new ones and new stuff to the old ones. If someone asked me whether I

Last weekend, after posting a couple of games I noticed that I no longer had my 'Very Good' alignment medal. I just posted another game, in which I chose Good after a string of Neutral games, and my medal is still gone. In the Metaverse Manager and in my character profile it shows my character as being Chaotic Good. In fact, the Metaverse Manager screen has shown my character as being Chaotic Good for quite a long time, though until a few games ago the medal stayed as Very Good. So, why isn't an

I am with Fuels Chief. I am not necessarily opposed to a cap as such, but I keep finding that 20,000 bc is just too low. I buy one or two high-level buildings, and I'm nearly out of money. And as pointed out already, you virtually cannot upgrade ships in one go, except fairly early in the game.

I would have thought that it was pretty obvious that you had to click on the Metaverse button in order to start a Metaverse game. Guess I am wrong. DarthBob, there should be no problems with saving a game and loading as normal. The only problem I have found is that sometimes if you start two Metaverse games during one session, sometimes one game will get classified as normal, and you cannot submit it.

Agreed, do be nice to new players (It seems even some regulars haven't noticed the 'don't attack the newbies' sticky that Cari posted). In my experience, that usually means that it is becoming enough of an issue again that a regular felt the need to warn everybody about it. This is one topic that I don't think stickies really help with. We all

Another two cents here. One of the reasons I post to the Metaverse is that there is no other in-game method of recording the results of a game. Also, it was obvious to me even before I started posting that I would never be in the top 25. It's never bothered me. I have been working to accumulate the medals, with a brief switch to another character when things got a bit repetitive. As for the 'street cred' bit, I have played a lot of games at a reasonable difficulty, yet I would never claim to be

Well, I am not sure if I qualify as a pro, but here's what I use. For tech planets, it's basically the largest planet with the most research bonuses. That's a fairly simple one. Also, I try and build at least one research centre on every planet. Also, for about PQ 7 planets and below, if they don't have enough upgradeable tiles to get above 10, I almost always make them research planets. For income, I generally go by the number of morale bonuses. Farming bonuses don't do you much good

Thanks, thagee. Sorry to have to burst your bubble, but you only reach the Fleet Captain rank after posting 25 games. Also, I was just reading a thread by someone else asking about DA and the Metaverse, and you cannot post games, at least not yet. As I write, the Orcas have notched up 6 million points. That's amazing. We also have the second, third and fourth ranked characters. I think we are in quite good shape to hold off the Diplomats and the Hegemony.

mystic it is definitely possible to be perfectly Neutral. You just start off as one of the Neutral races and pick only Neutral options whenever you get moral choices. It would be very difficult to get to perfect Neutrality from starting Good or Evil though, I think. bigshotweb, if you looked at your economy screen you should have had a lease of 10cr. That's the 10,000cr for choosing Evil. Also, from what I have seen, your 2,000cr was wiped out, without any reduction in your debt. So, th

There's still interesting stuff around if you look -- although I admit that I find a lot of the DA beta stuff interesting, so that doesn't help you much, gallagher. thagee, a late thanks for trying to give me tips to make the game more fun. I haven't checked this thread in a while. If it matters, I played some games on Painful level a while ago and found it a bit too much effort in the beginning phases. Tough is the right level for me. Plus, I have been having a lot of fun playing as th

So far as I know, it is impossible to start a Metaverse game without being on the Internet at the time.

Narakir is quite right, some features of the economy in GalCivII seem to be tied to your taxation level, not the amount of money you actually have to spend. I think it applies to bonus production as well.

I've had games where there have almost been more events at random than during colonisation. In my last game I has perhaps five random events. In fact, I had three right after each other, part of the reason I began researching Xeno Ethics a bit ahead of schedule. Also, in my last few games I have seen many events that I knew existed but have not seen in a long time. The game may repeat them, but it can also show a wide variety. Personally, I wouldn't mind a bit of variation in the effect

I certainly wouldn't consider this a dumb question. My personal experience has been that, if you start two games during the same Metaverse session, even with different characters, there is a chance that one of the games will not be considered a Metaverse game. (I couldn't post my highest scoring game so far because of this bug, and I'm still a little annoyed about it.)

In case you are interested, while there is an Admiral and also a Fleet Admiral rank, no one has reached Admiral rank, which requires something over a hundred games to get. I wonder why they set it at such an interval after the Vice Admiral rank, assuming it can be reached at all.

Byram, just a note: the GalCiv2 Wikia site (galciv.wikia.com) has these details and all sorts of other information about the races and other matters. It used to be that the inherent abilities would show up in the Abilities chart as well, but that was removed recently because people found it confusing. I think a better option would have been to change the colour, because as was mentioned here, when you hit clear and then go back to the overview, sometimes it just changes back to the defa

Yes, the Assassination event definitely happens to the AI players. I have seen it quite a few times. The Vengeance version with the extra ships only seems to happen to the human player, though. I always use different names for my saves. On this new computer I usually only save when I take a break, although I will save if I have been playing for a couple of hours without a break, or if something really interesting occurs that I do not want to lose.

I have noticed that too. It may not actually be a bug, though. When you develop a technology, the tech points not used for that tech are applied to the next tech. If you are researching low level techs near the end of the game, you can get several in one go. The same seems to apply to ships: if you pay more during a turn than is necessary to complete a ship, it goes to the next build. I assume that, when a building is completed, the computer records how much was paid to build it, and reduces an

I hope the developers intend to give us more information on the Krynn Consulate soon. I am quite interested in finding out more about the second new race in the game. On designing new races -- we can use the standard races, will we be able to use these new ones as player races as well? They seem to have a lot more options than the current Custom Race (such as alignment). Also, how would this effect Metaverse games? Could you have nine custom opponents and still post the game? o

Lord Loz, as far as espionage spending goes, after hitting Advanced it seems you still have to keep it above zero if you want to steal any technology. Apart from that, I guess one can only assume that the espionage system becomes self-sustaining: the money made from drug-running, extortion and weapons-dealing that espionage networks typically do, equals the money they pay out in bribes and computer attacks and what not. As for not alerting you to war, I have two explanations. The gamer

I've finally upgraded to V1.4x and finished my first game with it. I immediately noticed a few rather interesting bugs. 1) Superior Duranthium is (still) better Tri-Strontium and Kanvium, both of which are further down the tech tree. I saw this in V1.31 as well 2) when the Terrans eliminated the Yor, there was no conquest movie and no notification through GNN updates or even the sidebar. I am not even sure what exactly happened, it was so sudden I would have thought the Yor had
