There is a fairly simple solution to not seeing the in-game ships: just switch your shipyard lists to 'user'. As for getting rid of the ships from previous games, this is what I intend to do before my next game: go to the My Games folder in My Documents, and erase the contents of the Ships folders. There should be one folder titled Ships in the main GalCiv2 folder, and another in the Metaverse folder. Erase their contents, and that should be it. Of course, I haven't actually done it yet, so I do

Personally I say -- don't wait for them, send it along! I'm sorry you're having this problem too, but I have to say, I am a little glad I am not the only one, and hopefully also having two (or more) people sending in information on this bug will help them solve it. Stardock have given me a tracking number for this problem: 10498. It might speed things up if you use it -- or possibly confuse things, if it turns out we have different bugs.
I'm glad I came here before starting my next game. I have the debug.err file from that game. For save files, unfortunately I cannot remember saving a game and then having it crash right after. The best I can do is a save which I am fairly sure I had to reuse because the game crashed soon afterwards. If I can remember a better one, I will send that along. I have also downloaded SmartException and will try that out. Thanks very much for responding. Now that I know what you need, I'll do my bes
Finishing off my last game absolutely confirmed it: if I don't get to the defection notice soon enough, the game will crash instead. I love this game because I can win and get many planets without firing a shot, I was hoping to play a game with Influence Victory turned off and get a Military Conquest result by absorbing an entire galaxy -- and the new patch, which is otherwise great, has introduced a bug into this section of the game. Few things could be worse. In case anyone from Sta
With the official version of the 1.2 patch, I have encountered a nasty bug. I actually described it in a post here before as a random crash bug, but now I have seen it is not random. The bug appears when a computer planet is ready to defect to me. Sometimes I will be shown ships moving on and off that planet on the control panel screen during the start of my turn, when there is also a pop-up window telling me something. If I don't shut the window while the ships are moving, the game can crash to
The problem wasn't a lack of memory. While it was displaying the beginning turn messages, such as an upcoming UP Council Vote or such, the Control Panel would scroll through a computer player's fleets and planets. If I didn't hit the Done button fast enough, it would crash to the desktop. I think it might have something to do with planets defecting, since it only began late in the game, when planets were starting to defect regularly and there were a lot of newly homeless fleets around. In fact,
Just checked the site out. It displays fine at 1024x768. I think it could use more colour, though. A belated welcome to Spludge and Couche. Sorry for not saying hello yesterday, but I was trying to get some help with a bug that developed towards the end of my first game with 1.2. I got 9,975 points for that, a huge score for me ... but I think starting with the Abundant planets setting overloaded my computer towards the end of the game. It's frustrating. There are too few planets on C
I expected V1.2 to run perfectly, or close to it, because under V1.11 it DID run perfectly. The game is doing something during what is supposed to be my turn, that it did not do before, and can crash the game if I don't stop it. I can avoid this bug, or at least the crash element of it, by my actions in the game. I can only conclude that it is due to some new element in V1.2. If I uninstall and reload V1.11, I am sure it will run fine, as it did before. I would prefer not to have to do that.
I found one in my first game of V1.2 as well. There was also a Precursor Mine. In fact, I think there has been one Precursor Mine in about half the games I have played. My computer seems to interpret 'Rare', or whatever they are supposed to be, as meaning only one per game ... but the Mine usually shows up, and I would bet the Library will too. I just hope they never show up on anyone's homeworld, mine included. That is too unbalancing.
I apologise for the horrible way that that message ended up. I don't know what happened to the formatting. Just thought I should add something. You guys might look at my computer's specs and say, geez, this guy's computer is crap. Yes it is ... but I played V1.11 for a month, and it crashed just once. I have only had problems with V1.2.
This is a very nasty bug, but thankfully I may have found a workaround, of sorts. The first effect of the bug is that I see the other players ships scrolling through the Control Panel, while the game is displaying some other menu for me to use. If, and only if, I am fast enough in hitting the Done or other appropriate button, the game continues as normal. If not, it crashes to the desktop. It began doing this on and off during my game, then for the last few game months it was doing this every tu
I can already confirm that Norad is correct: when I submitted my sixth game, my total score was cut in half. There has been a discussion about it on this board as well, confirming that that is the change point.
It's not. Terraforming is just another way of adding tiles to already habitable planets.
MitchiSan, the manual says a lot of things that are different from the final game. It has been specifically noted that the Destabilisation feature was removed. I would guess that it was due to there being no counter-espionage function. From everything I have seen in the game, Espionage simply gives you information. It has no other function. If you watch their approval ratings, they change over time due to population growth and, presumably, tax changes ... just as your own race's rating does. Esp
Numbers: for fellow members, and anyone else who is interested, on checking our scores today I found some interesting numbers. We need just more than 28,257 points to surpass "the Paradox" for sixth place. We will need to increase our score by one and a half times to get into the top three, however. Within the Empire, our glorious leader and Norad are separated by just 5,210 points. On a personal note, I need about 4,500 points to become the fourth highest ranking member. However, Razius hasn't
In my most recent game (as the Yor), I got quite a surprise when I explored the Altaria system -- it had only four planets, and Wisp, the other habitable planet, was gone. I am not sure if this is a bug or not. I did notice that habitable planets in general were in quite short supply, despite my generally using the "Common" setting.
Orca777, I just had a look at your listing. You've got the "20 games won" medal. You haven't got a higher games played medal because the next one is 25 games. Anyway, judging by the number of games you submitted within a couple of days, I would say the medal system just isn't updated fast enough to keep up with you.
Well, I have to say that, not being much of a gamer, this issue originally made no difference to me. I bought GalCiv II because I loved the demo, and it would actually play on my aging computer. However ... I had some problems with another game, so I decided to re-install it. The CDs work fine, I have all the manuals -- but at some point I replaced the jewel case and threw out the CD key, so I can't play the game. Now I understand exactly why this issue is so important. "Serve your c
The Restaurant of Eternity require Trade, so you can get to it very fast. It adds 20% to your race's Influence rating. There is no point building it on a bonus tile. According to one of the designers that posted somewhere on here, the bonus tiles only work for buildings that produce stuff, not for buildings that add bonuses to buildings that build stuff. You should research the entire Influence branch of the tech tree. You will need all the Starbase modules to flip planets. If you research to th
Greetings! I have been watching your empire progress and your posts here for some time. When I saw that you had jumped from tenth to seventh, I decided I had to join while you were outside the top five, or it would feel like I joined after it was certain you would get to the top, rather than when I could still help you guys to do so. Norad, you would know better than the other two: does having the racial victory medal raise your score any in itself, or is it just cool to have?
I'm with Pmutzu on this one. You should be able to design the custom race to exactly what you want. Since all custom races have the same two default abilities, it is really like having an eleventh official race, just without specfic graphics.
I finally got around to designing a custom race yesterday. When I saved and loaded it, to check whether everything was preserved, I found that the game added two abilities. I noticed it immediately because I had picked ten abilities, so the tab was red after loading. I tried it at least once more, and the game randomly adds two abilities with each reload.
You know, I don't think I saw in that list that the modified tiles being erased if there's nothing built on them after loading bug had been fixed. I hope it has, as I find it a major problem, and when I mentioned it here, they said it would be fixed in this patch. Also, the word is "tongue". You guys at Stardock just can't spell, can you? Other than that, it looks great.
I think I can explain whether you need 'close' or 'friendly' relations: the Relations screen shows your relationships a step down from those shown on the Treaties screen. So, if you are listed as 'close' on the Treaties screen, the Relations screen will show it as 'friendly'. As for the Alliance tech, you need it to propose an Alliance, but I am fairly sure the other race does not need it to agree to it.
In my ignorance of how computer AIs function, it sounds like a glitch. In several of my games, I have had the camera jump to another race's scout as though to a battle scene, but nothing happened. There may be some general glitch in there. As for sneak attacks, in one of my games the Yor were reduced to one planet, and then the Thalans came out of nowhere and conquered it. Previous to that, there was almost no contact between them, certainly no war. In fact, that was the only aggressi
