reboot your pc and run the spyware/malware scans in windows safe mode. While you're at it, run a virus scan at the same time as well. To enter windows safe mode, reboot your pc, during bootup and before the bootscreen comes up, hit the F8 function key on your keyboard several times until a windows startup options menu list appears. I think the iPhone will initially be a sales success regardless if the device is any good or not. The price for the device is quite expensive ($500 or $600), the initial available inventory of these units will probably be limited which will drive the hype (everyone wants one but can't get one, they're all sold out).

Yup I totally agree Jafo, bootskins may be considered a simple form of skinning but it makes you appreciate limits such as working with an image with a max.size of 640x480, limited to using 16 colors so you have to be creative in maintaining image detail, creating progress bars that work well with the bootskin bkgrnd image and use the same colors and getting used to testing, testing & more testing before uploading your skin to the site to share with others. Al thank you very much, I just noticed this myself the other day, I haven't uploaded a bootskin in quite a while before the other day and I noticed my total bootskin download count had over 500,000. How about congrats to you, you just passed the 250,000 mark and you've only been doing this for a few months. I don't think you can blame Stardock for something that Microsoft purposefully limits the OS from doing when the machine it's running on is connected to a network domain. I thank Stardock for being able to do as much as it can with the Windows OS as it is.

You say "shuts down" but that really isn't saying much. Are you seeing any errors on your screen when this happens. Does it just power out/black out/go into sleep mode? Is this a new or old laptop? Is this possibly a power issue, is the laptop running on battery or outlet power when this happens. I agree with Bebi, hit F8 during bootup and enter safe mode when prompted, login and disable bootskin or select another bootskin that you know worked without any problems previously. Messing with recovery console just takes too long, rebooted the 'puter into safe mode is fast, fixes the problem, no software to uninstall and no harddrive to format. if you're talking about the fade to black & white that happens when applying a different wb skin, I don't think it's possible to disable that, it's just part of wb's process of applying a different skin - don't quote as I'm not 100% sure.
