Nothing short of fifty plus anti-fighter frigatesSee, what no one seems to realize is... 50+ anti-fighter frigates are pretty damn cheap. Both in terms of fleet supply and resource cost. They're FAR cheaper than the amount of resources needed for carriers. As it is, the best part of the Kostura cannon is the temporary phase stabilization. Nobody bothers to reinforce the planets they have at the ass-end of their empire, and the... SNEAK ATTACK OMG. Eh, strikecraft really are extremely imbalanced when used en masse. I always like ot have a fleet primarially composed of two heavy carriers and a dozen or so light carriers, with a ratio of 1:3 fighters / bombers. When playing as Vasari, my bombers can destroy any capital ship in two passes. Nothing short of fifty plus anti-fighter frigates will even stand a chance of stopping this onslaught, and while they're busy tangling with the strikecraft, I'm just chugging out more and more, r
My thoughts on this. Note that this isn't a 'do all of this', but just some ideas on 'fixing' mid-late game economy. - Change Trade Ports to be 6 or even 8 logistics slots each. They're just way too 'strong' for how little of a footprint they have. Compare how effective just one trade port is, versus generally needing at least two orbital refinery structures to get any meaningful income from them. Addicionally, have any of you seen a planet with one or two +trade% bonuses, with f
This talk of bonuses had me thinking. I wish we had a diplomatic or Archeolagy frigate. That you coudl sue to scan planets to determine what the bonuses will be, so you know if its worth to upgrade or not.
If you really want you can just save the game, upgrade, and then reload. They're only random insofar as what bonuses are assigned to what planets, and is determined when you start a new game. However, this really is just
Okay, I have to say I don't even notice the + / - gravity well even having any affect. What does it change? How far 'out' you can build structures? How big the 'game space' is around planets? Or how close you can jump in and out of the gravity well? Because for the life of me even if I change it to -100% it still doesn't look any different.
The choppiness was not due to graphics (at least for me), as evidenced by the fact that once I paused the game, all choppiness was gone until I unpaused. Since the primary purpose of this patch was to eliminte 'running out of memory' crashes, it likely was that - some sort of memory leak slowing eating up RAM leaving less and less for more 'liquid' assets to swap in and out of RAM, creating slowdowns and bottlenecks, until it ran out of minimum space completely and crashed. </p
I'm playing a 5-player FFA, and not only has there not been a single crash in 6 hours of gameplay (oh man I need something to do), but at 1x and 2x speeds there is no stuttering of any kind anymore. It used to be that around the halfway point of even a 3vA the game would become utterly unplayable, chugging along for no discernable reason. Now for damn-near the first time ever I have all my research and fleet maxed, and I can finally see the massive battles I've been hoping fo
MadMattezhion Maybe scenario maps are the answer. A set of well-known, incredibly tough scenario maps would give smurfs the chance to really bend some muscle against unfairly boosted Ai or N00bs and see how good they are. The whole scenarios thing would also reduce the learning curve, which has been stated many times (no need for a story, just a few objective based maps so people can get a feel for the game that tutorials simply cannot impart) I
I've picked up the game again and been playing Hard and the occasional V.Hard AIs on medium maps, and I've noticed that even when set to Aggressive, they just don't DO much. Early game they're fine - a horde of Cobalts or what have yous comes out and blows me up when I'm not ready for it, sometimes a whole fleet with capital ships, but every time, around the midpoint of the game, and AI seems to just 'turn off'. Like they automatically go into some sort of defensive mode. Very rarely
I'm just POd that Sins Plus doesn't work with it yet.
Your example would be more of an exception rather than a rule. Gamers need to read reviews before buying games. If the product looks half finished, DON'T BUY IT. Wait until patches fully fix it and then reconsider teh purchase. Although the publishers/developers made a flawed product, you're not forced to buy it.
Problem with this is that you can't name a single reviewer I would consider credible these da
You're telling me things I already know - I understand why they do it and why they want it. I'm talking about the consumer end, the human side of things. From what I understand, you're on the side of things that more advertising means supporting a game after-sales. I mentioned that I'd sit a little easier with this, if this were a guarantee, but it's not. I pointed out that BF2142, a game with in-game ads, has receieved no more support than BF2, a game with no ads. Advertising
I'm not ashamed to admit that sometimes, I pirate games out of good old-fashioned spite.

I'll just tell you to look at recent trends in patch quality, and you tell me that publishers give a single shit about the patch process or game quality for peo
Well the implication I got from what I quoted was that people who tolerate Steam do so because they find the hassle of Steam DRM to be easier than the hassle of SecuROM DRM. I was pointing out that that was lunacy because pretty much every SecuROM game on Steam still gives you a steaming load of SecuROM.

MMOs are not about stories, they're about sucking your wallet dry. Unless you honestly think Lost is a compelling, deep example of top quality storytelling, expect to have what appears to be ridiculously high expectations smashed flat. You will not get KOTOR. You will not get Deus Ex. You will not get Baldur's Gate. You will not get ANYTHING resembling a REAL RPG out of this. It's an MMO, what else is there to say? They want to keep you playing for as long as possible, and the
Well, two things about that that really piss me off. On my Vista install, I have two document folders. "Public" and mine own. I had them BOTH moved to another partition, to keep the C: drive freed up in space. However, despite this, many games STILL dump things in the 'Public' folder on the C: drive, making new folders. What's more, these two 'empty' folders on the C: drive are becoming cluttered with crap - appdata, etc. Stuff I can't move. This is equally as much Vis

Similarly, I love Team Fortress 2. It is a great game. And you know what? If Valve created a new character I could play as for say $10 I'd buy it in an instant. I want more characters in TF2 to play as. But you know the reaction they'd get. They'd probably get flamed because the parasite-class would argue that they should get that for free because buying something once to them means that the developers are perpetual slaves to them after. My mistake,
