Note for Cari: I've noticed this also, in the 1.7 betas. Its just the texture file, not wrapped around a planet model. Doesn't seem to be all planets. Maybe just the homeworld (or maybe just altaria). drrider

You can't stay with medium hulls in tough or higher games, only on the lower settings. On the more difficult settings, all you ships will be large or huge by the end of the game. If you have some $2500 medium hulls out there, they are only to draw fire and let your big guns get a free shot. Your med hulls will get targeted first and usually blown away in 1 shot. Er...recently won Obscene game with primary military ship being a super-evolved Defender, on

Add the Declare War button. Add the 'push out' functionality. Remove the UP event. But... Still allow sneak attacks, with a very large diplo hit...and a planetary defense bonus (10% ??) on every defending planet after the 1st invaded (defender's homeworld would get 10% even if it were sneak attacked, 20% if it were not the 1st hit.) Substitue a UP vote, with an increasingly likely chance of coming up, condemning sneak attacks in general. When condemnation statute pa

But the overall winner in DA has to be the Manufacturing Capital - it gives a 25% bonus to one world, while every single planet you have can be cruising along with a Quantum Power Plant yielding a 100% bonus. The last patch buffed the MC and nerfed power plants. So it should be better now. There is also the fact that you can build the Manufacturing Capital at almost the beginning of the game, while all the power plants, not to mention the QPP,

Why did the Galactic Resort get added to the game? It is pointless. It only gives a 25% morale boost, and the standard building you get from the moral tech at that point gives you 30%. I'm not saying it is worth it in your playing style, but there are other differences between the Gal Resort and the Zero-G. Gal Resort costs 33% more to build (400mp vs 300mp), and provides ~17% less morale boost (25% vs 30%). However, if all you need is

3. if a fleet of ships is protecting earth + mars, and its within the ring of a military sb, should that fleet be located 'on' earth itself (unlaunched) or must it be launched and in sentry mode to protect either planet? If you want it to be counted as a fleet, you have to keep it out of orbit. Ships in orbit are never fleeted, or counted as a fleet, in comparing forces or fighting, except when there is an Orbital Fleet Manager or the Hyperion Fleet Def

2. I'm thinking a good strategy could be to put a military sb in a location where its ring encompasses the mining sb, and perhaps a planet or two if possible. Then build the ship assist modules. When the enemy comes to attack planets or the mining sb - the military sb would help the battle - even though its taking place at the very outermost part of the 'ring' right. The Influence ring that you see on the map screen is not specfically the 'area of effect

1. so if you have 3 ships protecting a mining sb (even though ship assist isn't available) - do those ships need to be right on top of the sb itself. I'm guessing yes - if they are somewhere else in the blue ring - even right next to the sb on 'sentry' - they won't be able to help? The only way to get any of your ships TOGETHER in single battle is to fleet them (special exceptions for certain planetary improvements and orbiting ships, but that is a side

Its hard to tell from the modules if they are for defense of the sb alone, or they help the surrounding ships defend. And same goes for attack. It is somewhat misleading tech lableling, but all the modules that result from the "Starbase Defenses" tech branch actually don't defend the SB, they assist ships in an area of squares touched by an 8 parsec radius (which is not exactly the same thing as the area of effect estimation circle.) Plus

Maybe the AI will actually race to build the galactic guide book, then they won't have to worrry about having a survey ship at all. I think I will finally go build it. The cost of a Survey module was never a big obstacle. How many 45bc Survey modules can you build for the cost of Galactic Guide Book? Trick question: answer is 9, if you don't count the cost of the ones you already have and the cost to research up to Sensors III. So how many Survey shi

But since they are actively making tweaks for 1.7 right now, there's no reason not to mention it. I've sent in a couple of things like that, known minor glitches, to be remembered among the tweaks. drrider

AFAIK, you don't. You probably should DL the movies, though, else you might get an error if one of them is called from in-game. Also, you don't need to DL the heightmaps, though you may want to on some night when you can leave the DL running. drrider

If you don't have a right of passage treaty, ships will only move 1 move per turn through someone else's sphere of influence. Won't tha sort of rip Super-Isolationist, or are you giving them something else? drrider

The production ability is lost, but you don't pay for it. At least when I last tested that it worked so. Better wording would be that the: The production capability represented by the shields / hammers goes unused, but you don't pay for it, either. (No offense, Iztok - I was worried about confusing him with the word "lost".) BTW, fight, Iztok knows the GalCiv production system better than anyone. Search for his thread, "Produ

I admit, upon review, it could be clearer...but (page 28) Controlling the Main Map Players can interact with the map through the keyboard and mouse. The mouse is used in the following ways:  LEFT-BUTTON CLICK: Selects the object that the mouse is currently over.  RIGHT-BUTTON CLICK: Sends the currently selected object to the location that the mouse cursor is over (if applicable).
