I like the way trade ports give you more credits the further apart they "string"; on the other hand, seing 2, 3, even 4 trade ports around a planet seems kind'a cheezy; no diminishing returns, so spamming them is actually good in many cases :NOTSURE:

I played on a small map; had 20 flaks + 12 squads of fighters, still got trounced; the gravity well was black with AI fighters/bombers. But this IS a beta, so I'm glad we get to see this and comment before 1.1. If Flak had like, I don't know, 25% more range, that might go a long way to using them defencively. Or, make them do more damage, but less range; even more defencive. I'm playing my 3rd game today, and I just stopped making flak, and only carriers, but I'm a defencive player,
My AI's made huge masses of fighters/bombers, 20 Flaks could not dent them. Guess I got'a make carriers; but what are Flaks good for then?
Hey, this post goes for 1.09 too. Just lost 2 games on Hard; Hard was usually a sure win for me after 1.4. So they really tweaked it even more now :SURPRISED:
After playing twice on Hard (and getting trounced, when I usually win), I'd like to get other's opinions on the new strike craft buffs. I think they are great, bombers scare me now, I use to shrug them off. But in the 2 games I played, I made 15 Flack the first time to counter the strike craft; they seemed to do little. So my second game, I made nothing but fighters on my 6 Cap ships, put nothing but anti-strike craft upgrade on them too, plus 20 flack, and the bombers/
What is the BMP setting anyway? It's always set to lowest, so I decided to try turning up to highest, and I don't see any difference; that I can tell so far.
Made it to 85%, and then "Download Error" yet again. Sorry Yarlen, but I'm not going to uninstal my "disk" version (which is why I got it in the first place), only to have to download that mega-huge version. I think I'll just wait till both Impulse and 1.1 are out of beta. . .
Mine was up to 35% again; came back a while ago, and "Download Error" again. I'm giving up myself. Not impressed with Impulse at all.
Same happened here, TWICE; I've spent about 6+ hours today trying to get so-called "No Hassle" Impulse to update my game. Hours of waiting, only to check and see "Download Error" again and again. I have the disk/box, so having to unistal it all, then reinstall/download Gigs of stuff does not sound like an easier/shorter option to me; especially since I also heard some guy's horror story upon doing so.
I checked mine a while ago, it was almost at 50%; then checked it several minutes ago, and it said "Download Error". HOURS of work/waiting erased. Now I'm trying to start over, but it's back to being stuck on "Processing" forever again.
Here, it stuck for over an hour. Clicking on the Pause/Resume button sometimes "unlocks" it, but only for a couple seconds. Very disapointing.
Guess I spoke too soon: clicking on the pause/resume button on lets it download like .01% each time (and that's if you wait a minute or two). If you don't keep clicking every 3-5 minutes, it's still stays stuck forever. X-(
I fixed it! In case other's can't get there's to work also, this is what I did: After trying the "USA 2" server for another 45 minutes, I was about to give up. But as a last resourt, I clicked on the "Pause" button in the bottom right, and then clicked resume; it then stuck on "checking for updates" for a while. I then clicked on "Pause/Resume" again, and the download finally started :D. It still seems to get "stuck" every so often, but clicking on pause/resume seems to give a kick
I'm having the same problem others seem to be having: Impulse installed just fine last night. Showed my Sins version (1.5), and that I was registered (with no expiration date). Anyway, at lunch, I check, and it shows the beta available, so I click on it, and it's been stuck on "Processing, make take several minutes" and also "0/0 Bytes" for 30 minutes now <IMG src="http://images.stardock.com/smiles/Hmm.gif" align=absMiddle
Wow, I'm really glad you gave instructions on how to use Impulse and get the beta, or I think I would have REALLY had a difficult time doing it. Is it me, or are all those tiny buttons (that almost look like part of the Art/Frame) unintuative?
In 9 days it will be August, so I'm sure they will either let us know what is going on, OR, release it this week. Either they are alllllmost finished with it, or they hit a huge snag. . .
Well, in my opinion, you can start bye not saying "OMG, The game is so imbalanced", to "I'm just learning". The computer plays by the exact same rules you do, in fact, it's fairly dumb on the easy setting. It does not get cheats (unless you set it to Unfair), and Sins is not your typical RTS, and if you turtle, you'll lose for sure. I'm not aware of anyone in history that played their first time at a brand new game, and had it mastered. . .
Yes, each planet you get in Sins is just like buying a "Fix'er Up'er" house. You loose money until you "fix them up" with investments of credits. And, sadly, ignoring most the technologies, except key ones like LRM's, is good :/
I'm not complaining here, just confused: I thought the patch was due in mid July, but, that they were going to release a beta before then for all to test. So they have not released the beta yet, correct?
First, if this option is already in the game, please someone let me know where. But, the main complaint my 2 friends have as they learn Sins is that they HATE telling each and every Hanger Bay and Capitol ship what types of fighters to make. I can't count the times I've been teaching them this game, only to hear them cuss because they did'nt micro-manage the Hangers by telling them what Fighters/Bombers to make. I find it annoying too, and just wish they'd automatically build 50/50 un
I use to know a "pirate" a couple years ago (and I broke off the friendship finally "because" he would pirate). He did steal games he would not have bought, but more often, he saw a great game I was playing he liked, and would steal it. As a VERY sad side-note: I still know people he knows, and they told me he did finally BUY Bioshock rather than go through all the pains he was having getting the pirated version to work/update. I really hate the way copy protection is going lately,
Great, now I know we can still play Lan. Good to know since 1.5, we've been able to finish 2 games now (they would not reload saved Lan games here before that). Poor IC, I bet they wish they'd just have used "July" instead of "Mid July". It would have given them 16 more days leeway ;)
Well, I'm not really stoked about the "Impulse" thing, seems every year, programs need more and more "info" from my "personal" computer. But it does make me snicker in glee, thinking about people who might have pirated this game, seeing the great 1.1 update, and not being able to get it. I have 3 computers here; 2 pc, 1 laptop. 2 email addresses (1 for me and personal stuff, and 1 for my roommate to use and friends who come over or stay here). Then there is my computer at wor
Ummm, did I miss something or am I missreading the announcement? They were going to release 1.1 in mid July (which is about now?), but going to relase the beta before. Did they release the beta, and I did not see the link?
I found the tutorial for this game one of the most borring in recent years. But I thought I'd just skip most of it and learn during the campain. Whoops! No campain. So back I went to finish the tutorial. I've also taught this game in person to two friends in hopes they'd play via Lan here. After showing them the basics, they both said they wanted to do the tutorial too anyway, and so, whith grimmised face, I let them at it. About 30 minutes later they come in and say "please tell us that th
