I have 3 gaming friends that are in driving range of me, and several that are online gaming friends also. We were thinking about getting SC2 and Civ5 for sure, but, all decided on Elemental (lack of DRM was a major factor). Word of mouth has been far more a reason people know about this game so far than advertising, and I think it will be even more important after the release.

Taskmasters. Nuff said.
Sylenall, it may be that the attacker has a limited amount of turns to win the battle. That should insure a hard pressed battle in most cases. I"m sure that a defener will do just what you said, get his units to all sorts of cover, I would. All sorts of ranged attacks and spells will be available too, so I'm guessing a defender could only bob and weave so much. There will also be different defence ratings, hit points and damage, so I'd venture a&nbs
I was going to start a new thread subject about this simular topic, but I think I will just add to you question: I was about to send all the links to the demo videos to all my gaming friends. I wanted them to see all the great things about the game, and get excited and buy it too (I preordered the CE). Then I saw the tactical battle part. Yikes . I know it's not the retail/full game. I know it's not finished yet. But I chose to not send the #3 video
That's kind'a my question/worry too Mooiniet: I want the CE, but the last two times I ordered a computer game via mail, it was in the stores for a week while I checked the mail every day (wishing I had just never ordered it). It was about as fun as waiting in the dentist office lobby. So I'm wondering if I order the CE, if I might, just might get it at the same time (or sooner) than just random store searching.
The ability to only cast one spell per "turn" has been the bain of fantasty games (rpg and strategy) for all time IMO. Only able to cast one spell leads to people being forced to cast the biggest AoE damage spell most the time. Also, if I want a "physical" copy of the Collectors Edition of Elemental, how do I order it? Or can I download that pewter dragon (talk about lag). . . ?
Will music be moddable in Elemental? I changed/added/removed so many songs in Sins that I'm hoping I can also do the same in Elemental.
I would also like to vote: Please don't have the roads just "appear". I've always very much disliked the look and feel of buying a road (or railroad) and *bam*, it appears. It's pretty unrealistic, and can create some crazy cheesy tactics too.
This was a must buy for me and my gaming pals until we heard about the "no Lan", after that, we all agreed we would not buy it. We use to play SC1 via Lan for years, and we all ended up buying the game because of the Lan element. In fact, knowing about how Elemental is so Lan friendly is why we decided to vote with our dollars and spend our money on Elemental instead. I keep seeing people say "Things have changed, no Lan any more". Ahh, he
How about signposts? Click on 2 locations you wish a road to go (or perhaps a road just naturally starts between two much traveled locations). Reguardless of how you choose to make building a road work, you can place one or more signposts to signal to the AI where you'd like the road to pass through. The AI will try to build the road along the signposts. This way, you can generally "guide" where you'd like a road to go, without all the micro or building it on
How about if you, as a player, build anything in a particular area, then it's automatically a premade map for battles. This may also allow you to add things in the game you can do to improve your "battle map terrain", like even possibly reshaping the land to be a natural fortress if you have a powerful enough spell. Or you could simply have more "defensive" premade maps based on how much a player has built in that area. Otherwise, any territory where there is no "building" could b
All I know is that in EVERY game of this type, in all of computer game'dom, when you only get to cast one spell per turn, people cast the Area-of-Effect damage spell every time. Ev-er-y time. If multiple "smaller" spells were allowed to be cast per turn, that might help. A chance to cast a counter/defensive spells against a spell an enemy is starting to cast would be great too. Anything that adds some strategy depth to spell combat instead of :Aoe, Aoe, Aoe,. . .
[quote who="ten9" reply="164" id="2669294"] Quoting Kryst07689, reply 136 One thing that made Master of Magic so good is that the spell books were so different from one another. Chaos kicked butt in battle, but life had the best army buffs. Earth was a defensive juggernaught, but sorcery could mess with other peoples magic. So far the spell book for Elemental is basically the same exact spell over and over. Electrical damage, Fire damage, ea
I have both a suggestion and a question at the same time: Has anything been done in Elemental's spell combat that stops or at least hinders someone from spamming the same AoE spell (Fireball usually, sometimes chain-lightining) over, and over, battle after battle? Do AoEs take longer to cast, or way more mana, or have limited uses somehow, or need special reagents? Anything that would be a deterent to only using one type of spell 95% of the time? Something
I and another friend have been Civ addicts since the very first Civ. We both talked, we won't be getting Civ 5. Change happens, yes, some bad, some good. This change is way too "big brotherish" for us. We are going to vote with our dollars and just pass on it. And it also makes Stardock games like Elemental all the more desirable to us too. Ya, and, the "announcememnt" sounds like it was written by an ex politian who's now a used car salesman.
I've already seen Champions and Surprememe Commander 2 go down the toilet because they made them more "accesable". If they are making Civ V so it works on a console, I can tell you, there is NO possible way they can make a game like that anything but "dumbed down" so it works, the interface just won't handle all the things you need to do in a Civ game. Of ALL the games I can think of, the Civ series is the least likely I would ever think someone would be crazy enough to ma
Dear Stardock: Please get your game out as soon as possible to obtain maximum sales in just the right time slot and ride the wave of publicity at it's peak. Signed, Mater of Orion 3 Developer
It's all about winning with the online crow in this game Al. You will find "some" nice people, and a few that may help you grow/learn, but the vast majority want to win. Period. Anything or anyone that even suggests or hints that they might not actually "win" a game will either get you kicked, cussed, or they will rage-quit at the first sign of a loss. Even if your a good or great player, if someone sees your win rating is not high enough, you'll never even be all
Well, here's what I think is REALLY bad: I read many forums, I see many "disapointed" or almost "heartbreaking" posts about SC2. Then it stops. That is really bad, because, peoeple are just trying it; purging, and moving on. Not even taking the time to troll-post or ream out the devs. They just are totally moving on. I think it would have almost been better if you had seen non-stop complaint posts about the game. But I th
"Supreme Command N Conquer". That's my thought after the demo. I was so looking forward to this game for so long, that it's been (or should I say WAS) on my birthday wish-list for like 6 months now. Economy; graphics; number of units; Experimentals; base building all dumbed down for the console kiddies. Most everything I loved about SC1 and Forged Alliance have now been diluted into a milky RTS clone. Even the physics of the units gives the game an almost
Just making most things an "option" seems to be the best (and safest). You Go-I Go; Simultanious; Time Bank, all of them. If Civ can do it, I'm sure Stardock can give it a stab [e digicons];)[/e]
One of the reasons we never play HoMM is the lack of simultanious turns. It's just a bunch of finger-tapping the majority of the game. Age of Wonders & Civ4 have great simultanious turns systems, and anything simular would be great with Elemental. Players being able to view other players battling would be incredible; no worries there if you observe someone also on your team or in a normaly viewable area of the map. There could also be spells to hide your army int
I think your talking about "Reagents" Cep. Like in WoW, some spells may only be cast if you have the proper Reagents (herbs/crystals/powders) regaurdless of mana.
One of our major (and I mean MAJOR) gripes with games like Age of Wonders or Heroes of Might & Magic is the spells that end up being used in combat. Fireball; fireball; fireball. Since only one spell per "turn" is usually allowed, everyone ALWAYS picks the most damaging area of effect spell. No matter how many spell types they put in those games, you can be sure you'll get the "Fireball" (or Chain Lightning) 95% of the time, every round, every battle. I really ho
That is incredible work. Great job. Is'nt it sad though, GPG should have been taking care of all this LONG ago. So sad that customers have to fix the stuff because the company won't. . .
