lol it's so easy to make a post like this when it happens to be working for you. For some of us, there is NO solution to make this work because of factors beyond our control, like buggy net code or the ISP doesn't pass traffic fairly, etc. What a selfish and arrogant post to make. I'm a network engineer by trade and I can't make this game work for multiplayer. So if you want to play the "I figured it all out with my

Wow! I really didn't expect this thing to be ressurected. I expected demigod vs dota comparisons, but in new threads. At any rate, you should listen to what Kestrel says. As a Dota player, it bothers the heck out of me when some person comes in saying the heroes are totally imba after playing a couple games and getting rocked. It takes some time to get a feel for the game flow and how to "get ahead"

While the community is no doubt important, let's not kid ourselves - ultimately the game itself needs to play like an e-sports game to be a successful e-sports games. While worms might have ended up in the tourney, it's still not considerred an e-sports game and is more of an aberration than a demonstration that any game can be an e-sports game.

I'm sorry, I have to say this is a terrible idea. For a game like this which requires strategy and teamwork, throwing in random variables that affect the outcome of a gank so greatly is very, very bad. Even if the stunlocking is a big problem (which it apparently is right now), making it based off a random chance is an incredible cop-out of proper game design. There's many other valid solutions - diminishing returns, temporary immunity, removing cooldown reduction items, etc

They offered a pseudo refund which I wasn't interested in.
2) Generally, if a demo comes out after the game's release date then that's because the developers don't believe in their product's success or they had to rush it and didn't have time to prepare a demo version for their game. Which leaves the end-product flawed either way. It's for their own protection, even if most people realize that the game didn't live up to the hype (if there was any) or is not polished, it's too late. They already pre-ordered or bought it without trying it first
Even GPG had been saying "Demigod is not DOTA!" since before we even got involved. It hasn't been a secret.
I seem to recall that the general marketing hinted quite strongly that if you like Dota you'll like Demigod. I don't recall reading anywhere (except well after Beta 2) the devs saying it's nothing like it. However, the biggest marketing blurb that I found completely disingenuous was the "we want Demigod to be the COUNTERSTRIKE of RTS."
Yea micah Thats pretty standard for the genre. I don't think I've ever played an RTS or RPG where harder difficulties means smarter enemies. Harder just means enemies who get more resources and build everything ridiculously fast.
Sadly, this is true. It's a phenomenal challenge to program AI that can best players.
Why dont DotA fanboys wait 5 years than comeback? Answer: because there's no reason the game can't be just as good or almost as good NOW. It's not that far off, really, it just needs some tweaking, some added features or number balancing, perhaps some skill changes, a few more Demigods with more varied skillsets, and things could change dramatically. Waiting 5 years is not at all necessary. Im sayin

To the person who said the dota fanbase won't make a game a comercial success - just an FYI but DOTA is among the top (or is the top) most popular mod in existence right now (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_of_the_Ancients). Saying that the userbase is insignificant is a little wee bit incorrect. I'm also very dissapointed with the game's direction and design philosphy. I knew the direction the design was going back in Beta 1 and that's why I wanted a refund (despite
I know it sounds terrible, but right now since the Demigods are not dynamic enough. You gotta learn multiple Demigods, learn multiple Builds, and have a good partner to work with. That way you can build combos with different Demigods that work in different situations. But sadly, since this is all important planning pre-game, it makes Ranked matched more of luck based than skilled based system. Keep all of this in mind.
This is one thing that worries me about
no modding is purely a political decision; not a technical one.
In this case yes, but in others, not necessarily. Since demigod uses the supcom engine, which is has tons of lua scripting in it, it's very highly moddable. If a game didn't have the mod tools from the get go, modding wouldn't be a political decision, it would be a technical one. That isn't to say it still can't be done, you just need to be much more determined to do so without tools and

If you've played the game at all, you don't get a refund. When the very first beta came out, I and some other people were trying to get refunds, but we weren't allowed. Worst of all, they never stated that policy anywhere on the pre-order page until AFTER we had made a big fuss about it.
