Frogboy, just to be clear, I don't think anyone is saying the game will be a disaster, etc, etc. Just because it's not a game for competitive players doesn't mean it'll fail. It will likely do even better, at least in the short term, if it's geared to the casual. I for one, think the game will be a success - at least financially. The main gripes 'our camp' complain about are more apparent at the competitive level. For me, my main concerns are <

Disclaimer: I used to work as an engineer at EA. I'm now working at another game company on a AAA title as an engineer (and do design on the side [e digicons][/e] ) Crunch time is a fact of the industry, more or less. Basically it just means that to complete a game, you need more hours than initially scheduled. "Crunch time" refers to people making up for that discrepancy in the way of doing overtime. From my experience, here's the mai

In project planning there are things called capacity plans. Basically they're an estimation of the cost of resources needed to do something. You can have a cap plan for a game as well as smaller cap plans for features. When they state the cost of a demigod, it's the cost of paying those artists, programmers, etc to do their job for that time, plus other costs of operation (essentially a cap plan). This is the same reason games cost millions to make and not $0.00. &nb
Things I like: Demigods are for the most part balanced. Each character has its own unique feel and play style. The creep spawns are well balanced. Citadel upgrades parallel character progression. Fog of War provides unlimited ganking oppurtunities. Things I dont like: The Prison Map is far too small; especially when playing against a team of Regulus' who camp at

Other than some games against the AI, I haven't had the chance to play any MP games (don't have time for the scheduled games). From a design point of view, in terms of competitiveness, pacing, fun, ui, art, etc, how do you all feel this game is doing? From reading various posts on the forums, it looks like most people (or at least the ones who frequent these boards) are pretty happy. For me, I can see some promise, but I feel a little underwhelmed by what

Hey Cykur - how've you been? I think the instability is on their end currently. I've heard their cloud isn't working as it should right now. Once it's fixed, connection problems should go away... hopefully. I haven't had a multiplayer game yet either, although I've managed to connect (and create) lobbies with other people in it.

There's a reason that people who post guides, post a lot, and present cogent opinions get to be "forum kings". People who spend more time studying a game are just going to be better at it. People who spend more time playing a game are going to be better at it, people who collect and compile information outside of the game environment are going to be bette

The DoTA community is one that I quite despise. It came to be like that partly as self defense against leavers and other poor etiquette players. However, elitism was also a very strong factor. Because of this, I kept my distance from it when I could. I see the pattern repeat all the time. Members of the community who are more active, or post long guides that later become sticked often become self-appointed kings of the forums and behave as though their words be
What's the point of discussing the skill ceilling of a game no one's played yet? After BETA2 comes out and a few hundred games are played and the OP combos start showing up over and over, then you can realistically discuss skill ceiling. Hell who knows, the generals might have a lower skill ceiling because their pets control themselves, are powerful and don't give much gold when killed. Or they might not. Or they might give just enough. W

Since, AFAIK, you start with no items and get items later on, they won't be like you described unless they all come with a large weakness (high attack but lose significant heal
A character doesn't need to be powerful in combat to have a high impact on the match. That's true even in DotA, where a hero built as a lane pusher and played by someone who knows how to avoid ganks can be a much bigger deciding factor than the beefiest of hero killers. And the reverse can also be true, a well played hero killer can have more impact on the game than a lane pusher / team fighter if he knows wher

Maybe they should have different bracketed tournaments based on win/loss ratios for example 10%-20%, 30%-40% and so on. With each bracket having a different reward for the winner. Also having the people in the higher bracket getting something better then the people in the lower brackets. I'm sure having a bracketed system like that has its flaws in ways, but i thin
