Louie, The "research complete" screen came up normally at first (with the DONE button). When DONE was pressed, the screen disappeared for a split second, then a partial version of the same screen came up again, without the DONE button. I hit ESC and every other key, but could not regain control. I saw a DONE button come up when ESC was pressed, but clicking on it did not do anything.

Brad, When two research items are completed at the same time (one through the research anomaly), there is a bug that causes the animation to be stuck as the top window, and you can't get rid of it (the MP3 also keeps playing). The function keys work, but any windows called up remain behind the animation. I am enclosing a saved game. All you have to do is send the starhawk into the anomaly, go into the research screen to change the next tech to Advanced Repair, then hit Turn. I email

Each point adds 10% to the base ability. So for example, a colony ship has a base speed of 2. It would take 5 points to increase the speed to 3 (5 x .2 = +1). The added percentages should show up in the stats. Hope this helps.

I haven't seen this problem in previous builds. The initial colony ship and survey ship hit points are listed as 10/15 and 40/60 when the game starts. After the first turn, the ships show up as damaged. New ships don't have this problem. It seems like the initial ships do not get the war party bonus at the start of the game.

I just started a new game with Beta 4A. I saved the game at the beginning, then hit turn before I set up my taxes and spending sliders. I tried to reload the game, and Galciv crashed. Restarting Galciv and reloading the game results in CTD. Smart Exception report follows: Stardock SmartException Logging Information 12/27/02 09:45:59 ------------------------------------------------------- Versions: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 (Build 2600) Intern

Technician, I finally found out the problem. It seems I had an old version of Smart Exception installed, and no matter how many times I ran it, I never saw the main window come up. I just downloaded the version from the 12/11 thread, and I was able to get a crash report. Thanks for your help.

Technician, When I run Smart Exception, I don't see it listed in the WinXP applications list, but I do see it listed in the processes list, so I know it is running. Is there anything that I need to set up at installation, or does it automatically work with Galciv? What should I expect it to do when there is a crash? Right now, I would not even know it was running if I don't look at the processes list. Nothing happens if Galciv crashes. Thanks.

I have had some CTDs in the last few builds, but Smart Exception does not appear to do anything. Should there be a popup when a crash occurs? Is data stored anywhere (I didn't see anything in the directory "Program Files\Common Files\Stardock\SmartException", where it is run)?

I found a small bug in the restore of a game. I had 90 in my treasury when I saved the game. When I restored the game, my treasury was -229. The difference was exactly my deficit rate. This seems to work in the opposite direction. If I set my spending sliders to 0, so that I have a huge surplus, save the game and exit, then restore the game, my treasury is higher by the amount of the surplus. P.S. This could make for a good cheat LOL

I was trying to add a phase III factory to an existing starbase, and the game locked up. This was reproducible from a saved game. I let it run for a while, since I did not lose control of Windows. When the screen saver activated, instead of my usual pictures, I got a square box that said "Could not create Direct 3D device". I was about to get the latest DirectX 9, but first I got all the latest Windows XP updates. Having the latest updates for Windows cured the problem. I would rec

I know this was discussed in previous threads, and I thought it was decided that minor civs would not expand. I just started a B4 game, and by Aug. 2178, I ran into the Alexians who had two planets (so far) and two colony ships out of orbit. Is this just a test of the AI for B4, a bug or a feature? I have a screen capture PDF I can email if necessary.

If galactic wonders could be purchased, then it would be a matter of who achieves the pre-requisites first, then buy it. I don't think that is a fair way to do it, because it ignores other parts of the economy, such as manufacturing, morale, etc. I could easily set my spending to 0 for a few turns to build my treasury, then buy it. This would have a small impact to my overall strategy. Having to build it, I have to keep the military/social/research mix according to my strategy, since it will

Neuromancers, "I don't think the AI CAN attack my ships when they're not at my systems. If this is true..." It's not true. I have been attacked everywhere (particularly when I'm sending transport ships to enemy planets - they need heavy guard)
